  1. Test post Mods, please don't hide this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. 1 new post (reply #792 AJAY Oct 31 7:52). Still 26/39 pages. 12th post on page 40 @ both 20 & 30 posts per page. ADDENDUM: Same result with addition of reply #793.
  3. I think that admins/mods are more likely to be affected by incorrect "last" page numbers on the forum page while members are more likely to be affected by hitting the "new post" icon and landing on a blank page. It's gotta be the same bug, though, especially since they both started happening after the same push. Something isn't getting counted correctly.
  4. Three new posts since last visit, forum page pager still ends on pages 26/39 when topic actually contains pages 27/40. Current last post by MN Brew, 31 October 2010, 3:38 PM CDT, admin/mod reply #791.
  5. One post added by Sage, October 31, 2010 2:20 PM CDT (reply # 788 for mods/admins). The forum page still lists pages 26/39 last in the pager, while the thread has 27/40 pages.
  6. Four new posts since last visit above. At 20 posts per page, 39 pages appear next to topic title on forum page, even though thread has 40 pages. At 30 posts per page, 26 pages appear next to topic title on forum page, even though thread has 27 pages. Last post: reply 787 by Invader 3K (using admin/mod reply numbering.
  7. "next manager" thread -- 30 posts per page. Logged in as an administrator: Page 26 is the last page currently showing in the pager on forum page (screen capture: one page short). Clicking on the "new post" icon properly took me to the first new message on page 27. EDIT The same thing is happening when I adjust to 20 posts per page. 39 is the last page showing next to the topic title on the forum page. However, there's a page 40 in the topic. (screen capture: last page is 39). There are currently 769 posts in the topic with (I believe) 17 being hidden. (Last post, Polish Falcons; October 31, 2010 10:25 AM CDT.)
  8. Here's a twist. Logged in as an administrator: "next manager" topic: posted the first message on page 27 and immediately deleted it. (Coincidentally, it was a test post for another issue; nothing juicy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif)30 posts per page.Landed on a blank page 27 (see screen capture). Pager has no link to page 26. I had to navigate to page 25 to be able to get to a link for page 26, which contained the current last post. Previous message was a post by moi--same as "current last post" in item 3."I'm glad I ran across this because we didn't have an example dealing directly with page numbers. I have something about 75% written up. I'll post a draft for member input before I post anything at Support.
  9. I'd envision a selection committee comprised of about half a dozen people... with everyone being given an equal opportunity to be heard and Doug Melvin making the final decision.
  10. Summary: When a topic has hidden posts, clicking its "new post" icon will occasionally take members to a blank page that's "tacked on" to the end of the thread. Along with this, there are times when the last page number in the pager next to topic titles takes users to the second last page of the topic. Reproducibility: Only at certain times Operating system: All Browser: All Steps To Reproduce: This is a toughie because it affects mods and admins differently than it affects members. The user's post per page setting definitely matters. But changing one's post per page setting doesn't eliminate the bug. It only changes when it kicks in. I think the easiest way for developers to see this bug might be to resurrect one or two of the support.yuku.com topics that had lots of hidden posts. Because people weren't playing nice, it's probably better that it be restored to a private forum. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Member-level test accounts belonging to staff could be given access to this forum and could take turns adding posts to this topic. The bug should be visible soon enough. Rather than spending time doing a lot of testing, my gut says it might be easier to examine the code itself. There's probably some computation that's off. If developers can spot something and make an adjustment, we can put members on notice. If there are no more reports, we can probably assume that the issue has gone away. If not, developers can go back in and take another look. Actual result: "New post" icons occasionally take users to a blank page that's "tacked on" to the end of a topic. The last page number next to the topic title occasionally takes members to the second last page of the thread. Expected result: "New post" icons should take users to the first unread message in a thread. The last pager number next to topic titles should take members to the proper page. Sample reports from members [+] Both of these issues (new post icon leading to blank page and last page number in pager leading to second last page) started after the August 2008 push. My gut says that fixing one issue will take care of the other.
  11. Currently, the alternate text for all Yuku posticons is "posticon." Instead, alternate text should be specific to each posticon. That will make posticons accessible to those who can't see images. It will also eliminate a "disconnect" between Yuku's posticon administrative interface and the posticon itself. Note this screen capture: http://images.yuku.com/image/png/64c155584059450f1701f7b67731ea0663586f5.png "Tickets" is set to be the alternate text. However, rather than "Tickets," "posticon" is what shows up in the HTML on forum pages. Secondly, it'd be great if each posticon displayed a unique tooltip, both in the post editor and on forum pages. This would enable visual users to ascertain the meaning of the posticon by hovering over it. The tooltip could match the alternate text. Sample... hover over the "tickets" posticon to see its tooltip: http://images.yuku.com/image/png/fbd15492c5541612c1798117f3edf1a5a40ef76.png I would think that dealing with this request would be similar to the emoticon request that was recently worked on.
  12. And never tell them what you want to pay on a monthly basis as your car payment because they will then 'back into' a number for the price of the car. Never tell them what you want to pay, period. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And as OglivieHomePerm's Profile said, don't tell them what you want. That can come later. Express interest in several vehicles, get some idea of what the dealer will offer to sell them to you for, go home, and mull things over before going back. I learned this one time when I truly didn't know what I wanted. All I knew is that the car I was driving needed to be replaced.
  13. My dad, and other older guys will haggle and haggle and hem and haw, but personally I think that's just wasting everyone's time. They're from another era. My brother won't haggle; he's too concerned that the salesperson will get his or her "fair share." But my sister-in-law haggles. She buys all their vehicles. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif My advice is to know the price that the dealer paid for the vehicle and to get prices with and without a trade-in. Even if your intention is to trade in no matter what, this information helps you sort things out.
  14. Whenever I do a search to see which external hard drives are best, all the consumer reviews tend to provide are complaints. I don't think that means that these drives are bad. Rather, I think people only bother to post when they have a problem. Given that external drives aren't expensive, I'd simply go for one whose feature set suits your needs and provides the best bang for your buck. And given the prices, if you find one down the road that you like better, it's cool to own two or more. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Self-powered drives are the handiest. They're all 5400 RPM and 2.5 inches, but that's fine for backups. Firewire transfers files faster; but it adds to the price. I've noticed that Firewire 400 beats USB 2 hands down for speed, though, and Firewire 800 wallops USB 2. All drives with Firewire also have USB, so compatibility isn't an issue if you want to use it on a machine that isn't equipped with Firewire. Drives that aren't self-powered might be 3.5 inch units, they may offer 7200 RPM, and you get more storage per dollar. I wouldn't go this route for my first backup drive unless it's rarely going to be moved from its "main" computer. I do have one, though, and it's very handy when I need it. My MacBook Pro has all the docking stuff I need built in. I can run it with the lid closed or open. If I open the lid, I can choose whether I want the notebook monitor running or not. When I have it hooked up to an external monitor, I usually leave the notebook monitor turned off unless I need the extra screen real estate. I normally lift the lid, though, as the speakers sound better. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I would think (but can't confirm) that you could get similar docking functionality built into a Windows-based notebook. EDIT: You can add amazon.com to the list that Robin 19 provides.
  15. Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer If you can get your current hard drive to boot, make sure that you de-authorize your computer for iTunes. You're limited to seven devices. If you can't, you can't. (Apple will de-authorize all of your devices, but you're limited to making that request once a year.) Also, when you get your next computer: Invest in a backup hard drive and make sure it's connected as much as possible. If something goes wrong, you'll have a current backup to restore from.Make Windows disks right away. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I think the managerial pay scale ranges from about a half a million to about three million.
  17. Valentine's tenure with the Rangers ended in 1992. Melvin's tenure began in 1994.
  18. Can some on here explain their disdain for Bob Melvin? I recall complaints about his in-game strategies, especially from statheads. But that's par for the course for most managers. I don't think anyone viewed him as Bakeresque.
  19. I merged the "next manager" topic into a poll. It'll be interesting to see how that might tie into the "blank page" bug.
  20. Anyways, can you make polls on these forums? Mods can create polls. I've added one to this topic's lead.
  21. And Casey, please let us know where & when to cast our votes http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Thanks for the reports so far. I'm hoping that we can get something submitted by the end of the week. I'd like to isolate something tangible regarding reproducibility. But even if a pattern is tough to pin down, the more reports there are, the more developers will have to work with.
  22. It's working for me right now. How about you?
