Anyone getting "Aw Snap!" pages in Chrome?
1992casey replied to 1992casey's topic in Brewer Fanatic Issues & Suggestions
I don't know when this changed, but I seem to be able to use Chrome to get to this board again... in Snow Leopard anyway. I still have to test Leopard. I don't think Yuku did anything to address the issue, but I did report the site to Google as "broken." -
It's being reported that the gift box is displacing "important" stuff in the navigation bar. Items reported missing may include the comments notification thinger, the navigation button, or the Admin link (for board admins). A hard refresh should take care of any navigation bar issues. If that doesn't work, clear your cache.
-
Yuku Supporters are seeing a "Just for you!" link in their navigation bars. It's "inviting" members to "upgrade" their profiles. The reality is that Yuku's new Facebook Open Platform profiles are in Beta, and they're currently in terrible condition. I don't have time to get into it right now except to say that the PM interface is unusable. Also, if you upgrade, there's no going back. Suffice to say that I'm not very happy with Yuku right now. "Beta" requires cautions and warnings, not a giftwrapped box. EDIT: For the benefit of non-Supporters, this is what Yuku Supporters are seeing: http://images.yuku.com/image/png/c5d25239afc1c5cd11b1ca1ff437d5edffd4f3e.png

I doubt half the team even checks the softball forum in the offseason. Maybe you guys should be sending out a few PMs or e-mails. -
Braun finishes 2nd in Hurricane's HR derby

Carlos Lee had a bad second half after participating in the Home Run Derby, and he "blamed" the Derby on his performance. However, if you look at the stats, his decline that year started well before the All Star game. -
Braun finishes 2nd in Hurricane's HR derby
1992casey replied to Patrick425's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Dave Krynzel got hurt in an off-season accident on a dirt bike (or similar vehicle). Years before, Robin Yount was hurt in a similar fashion and didn't admit to it until almost 20 years later. Player contracts generally prohibit this kind of activity. Yount was an exception. Prohibition of off-season racing activities was specifically written out of his contract. Skiing is another activity that's generally prohibited. Jim Lonborg is the poster child for ski accidents. Someone retired recently and said he couldn't wait to ski again after a seventeen year hiatus. I doubt that there's any correlation between home run contests and performance decline. There might be enough anecdotal evidence to cause one to look into the situation, though. As far as Braun participating in this thing, I can't get too worked up about him hitting with a bunch of college kids at a time when he'd be hitting anyway. He didn't even finish first. It was probably batting practice for him. -
Given that this topic has come up twice in the Major League forum, I've moved this one over there. Mark Mulder Retires

Anyone getting "Aw Snap!" pages in Chrome?
1992casey replied to 1992casey's topic in Brewer Fanatic Issues & Suggestions
Thanks, battlekow. Buckyville is fine for me, too. I just used the "Report Broken Website" feature to report brewersfandemonium.yuku.com and support.yuku.com. I chose "page won't load" from the popup and used "'Aw Snap!' page" as the description. "Report Broken Website" is in the Help Menu (in OS X) and the Page Menu (in Windows or if you're optionally displaying it in OS X). It only takes a minute to use, so if anyone experiencing the issue could also report it to Google, it wouldn't hurt. I'll keep Yuku up to date with reports from this end. Knowing that XP SP 3 isn't an issue (as far as we know) will help the gurus over there. Does anyone know how Chrome handles browser updates? I'm wondering if there was one in the past couple of days. -
Is anyone else getting these "Aw Snap!" pages when trying to access this board with Google Chrome? http://images.yuku.com/image/png/c70152584b5a40088edfbf48aa501807d1d47a8.png I'm seeing it here at Brewerfan and at support.yuku.com. LambeauLeap, BPS, and some other Yuku boards I've checked have been fine. I don't know when this started, but I know I could get in with Chrome a day or two ago, and I've never had an issue previously. Oddly, I have no trouble accessing the board administrative area. Just as odd is the fact that this is the first time I've ever experienced a Chrome issue that didn't exhibit itself exactly the same way in Safari. Anyway, because I've posted this as a bug, I'd appreciate knowing any yeas or nays on this. Including your operating system would be helpful, too. This is happening to me in both OS X Leopard 10.5.8 and OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

In your opinion, it shows a lack of class. I don't think you can categorically state that booing is a classless act. He didn't. He said "most of the time."

I'm the "stupid sod" mentioned here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif (EDIT: link removed; the topic has now been hidden or deleted.) I wasn't going to post the link here on Brewerfan, but now that the person who's deemed the "The Most Stupid Member in the System" has discovered it and posted the link in a lead on Yuku's support board, I'm OK sharing it. The backstory is that Yuku is going to be converting our profiles to the Facebook Open Platform. There's no timetable right now, but people can beta test if they'd like. If anyone feels inclined to do this, it should be done on a test profile rather than the "real thing." They're currently in really rough shape. Anyway--aside from the fact that Yuku has abandoned any significant board maintenance for a year to work on these things--unless they lose their juvenile tone, they're really not a fit for our two communities or their members. I've been actively posting at Yuku Support about issues that would concern us. The biggie is that the PM interface is currently awful and feature-barren, and Yuku has not yet made any commitment to bring it up to snuff. What prompted the "stupid sod" comment was that I (along with a bunch of others) objected to the new profile's equivalent to our current "My Recent Posts" block. Instead of calling our messages "messages" or "posts," they're currently called "rants." Thankfully, the "kick *ss" *********1[/sup] feature is going to be removed. Yep, "kick *ss" is the central point of their advertising. What trumps the juvenile stuff is that the information provided is just plain inaccurate. And most importantly, there's absolutely no mention that the profiles are in beta; the advertising gives the impression that these things are currently usable. Here's what's really sad, though. The people posting to the "stupidest member in the system" thread are members who've been hand-picked by Yuku staff to promote and assist people with the new profiles. They didn't even have the common sense to have this discussion in a private setting. These people have lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned. ------------------------ 1. Please don't use "*********" in your posts (unless you want to comment on this soon to be defunct feature). And if you need to say "kick *ss," feel free to say "kick ass" (please restrict "kick *ss" to this narrow context). The only reason I posted those terms was to quote Yuku. It's ironic that the first half of "*********" is in Yuku's default cuss filter.

I also stayed in Tutt Way off topic, but has anyone ever noticed that UW-Whitewater students "stay" in their respective dorms while UW-Madison students "live" in them?

I guess this isn't any surprise, but I thought I'd let you know in the interest of full disclosure--even though Yuku didn't disclose this to us... Yuku has recently implemented a "DrivingRevenue" script. When links to any one of 138 different domains are posted, we're now intercepted and run through a site called outboundlink.net before we reach our final destination. As an example, http://www.priceline.com/ becomes: http://outboundlink.net/out.php?cid=1117&tr=0&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.priceline.com%2F&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fbrewersfandemonium.yuku.com%2Ftopic%2F21428 outboundlink.net is not inserted into the link code in our posts, nor is it visible when hovering over a link and checking the status bar, nor is it visible in the URL bar when you reach your final destination. It's inserted by the script when the link is clicked and disappears when the page is loaded. Probably more significant than the redirect itself is the fact that some of the redirects are likely to break. As an example, any link to tigerdirect.com ends up directing to a 404 error page. sorry dadofandrew, that just sounds wrong Kind of like the issues with dropdowns hanging open. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I bring that up because it relates to the white link people spotted yesterday. I've found out that we can clean up the look of the board for those who don't have javascript available and for those who have static.yuku.com blocked by firewalls or content filters. You can see links to screen captures of static.yuku.com not loading in reply #6 of the dropdowns topic. Those who load static.yuku.com, but don't load javascript, see less of a mess. A lot of handhelds fall into latter category. As part of this, I'm trying to clean up code in our skin; it's kinda hard to follow right now. The CSS that made the link white has been in our style sheet since we migrated from ezBoard, but it didn't affect anything until I moved it. It's gone now; I don't think it served a purpose. If you see a black link that's supposed to be white, let me know. Ideally, typical Mac/Windows users who load all of the Yuku code shouldn't see anything different (except for a couple of issues that should be corrected for everyone). Currently, these changes have been kicked in for non-javascript users: The jump feature by the page numbers and the collapse/expand buttons in messages have been hidden. They don't work without javascript. (The collapse/expand buttons on the board's front page do work without javascript, so they're visible.)The dropdowns that display on both the top and bottom of pages will only be visible at the bottom if javascript isn't available. The main exception is that the LambeauLeap Forum Jump hasn't yet been placed at the bottom; it currently breaks layout when I put it there. The other exception right now is the moderators' Topic Tools menu; that's still at both the top and bottom.Without javascript, dropdowns have height restrictions and scrollbars appear. There are likely to be more glitches, so please feel free to report them. Hopefully, they're at the level of a link being the wrong color rather than any major breakage. (I think I'd see major breakage immediately, but you never know. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif) Also, I'll get this stuff added in over at LambeauLeap as soon as I can. I'd like to make a few more changes here at Brewerfan before I start over there. -

I've been messing around with the skin. I saw that at some point, too. I believe the link that's supposed to be black is showing up as white (at least sometimes). I'll take a look. -
Rather than a statue, I think the more creative solution would have been to arrange for a state historical marker and place it somewhere in the plaza area.
-
But a statue just feels wrong. Yeah. It's not that Bud doesn't deserve that level of recognition. It's more that I can't imagine a statue of Selig turning into a very good piece of art.
-
What if a car gets pulled over for going 28 when their speedometer says they are going 25? You'll get a statement from a mechanic and get a faulty speedometer ticket instead. I don't believe it carries points.
-
If your computers are being moved over the course of part of a morning, you're doing really well.
-
The article has been deleted. It makes sense to close this topic at this point.

The issue that battlekow brings up is timely because Yuku is working on enhancing its ability to work in WebKit browsers. Besides the the iPhone and Safari/Chrome for desktop systems, this group of browsers also includes the Droid and the iPad. If anyone's willing to test in any of these devices and report back, it'd sure be helpful. What we need to know is what happens when you use the WYSIWYG editor after hitting Reply in a post. Knowing if the BBCode editor works would be useful, too. Feel free to use this topic to test. To change editors, follow these steps: Hit the Account link in the navigation bar.Hit the Preferences link in the Settings box at the lower right.Change your editor type at the bottom of the page, and hit Submit.Due to a code push today, these directions are a little bit different than what I have in the lead. I'll edit in the directions I've included in this message to reflect that. One more thing... the issue I described in the first reply (not getting the cursor into the post editor in Safari) is only occurring for me on one computer. I think it might be a plug-in issue. I'd suspect that Safari users on desktop systems should be fine.

The phone working at your cabin should be the top priority. Having it work in the general area that you're moving around in would be right up there. And the third priority would be how good your reception is between your cabin and Milwaukee. From my experience, anytime you're north of Green Bay - Wausau - Eau Claire, Verizon/Alltel will do better in general. But there are spots where AT&T works better. A friend of mine has remote land up north. You walk or drive to one spot to use AT&T and another to use Verizon. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The other thing you might consider for the cabin is an amplifier. You plug in a gadget, hook it up to antenna, and any cell phone within range will have an improved signal. That would also benefit those at the cabin using phones from a provider that's different from yours. If the cabin doesn't have electricity, you could probably adapt a car amplifier and run it off of a battery.
