  1. We had a lot of debate at the time, but I haven't sensed that the debate has continued. That doesn't mean we can't rekindle it, of course. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. my question is...why doesn't MLB award the Brewers compensation this draft? They offered arbitration last year, he turned it down. He used a loophole of sorts to help the Brewers lose their rights over his contract. It's not a loophole. It's written clearly into the CBA that after a certain date (in June?), compensation is no longer awarded. This accomplishes a couple of things: Players won't be left totally in the cold if teams balk at giving up a draft choice.Players have an incentive to reduce their monetary demands in order to play a full season.
  3. Nate, is there one particular place you go in northeastern Wisconsin? If you go to a cabin or something, maybe there are neighbors that can offer advice. It's too bad it doesn't look like you're going to be headed in that direction to be able to do this, but the really efficient way to find out is to ask in the bars. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. miggs721, how does Sprint do for you in remote areas?
  5. It's too small for football. When Lambeau was being renovated, there was talk of bringing the annual scrimmage to Miller Park. The field would have had to be shortened a bit. That's likely fine for a scrimmage, but not for a "real" game.
  6. The flaw with basketball is that Miller Park wouldn't be warm enough. It could possibly be pulled off in late March, but the heating system only heats to 30 degrees above the outside temp. Even March would be risky.
  7. Sprint isn't going to work nearly as well outstate. I'm in north central Wisconsin, and we can't even get Sprint phones up here. Their coverage maps indicate that there are large areas without service. So I wouldn't pick that one unless all your travels stayed near big highways. One good thing about Verizon is that their 3G coverage is practically everywhere. Friends of mine on a farm in the middle of nowhere use it as their primary internet connection. AT&T's 3G is pretty much restricted to fairly large cities. For phones, Verizon has the advantage of all of the former Alltel towers (they were using them before absorbing Alltel anyway). Verizon's phone coverage is likely to be better than AT&T's, but I would guess that AT&T stands a good chance of being fine. I sure like the concept of rollover minutes and the possibility of having an iPhone on AT&T, though. On the other side of the coin, I would be able to combine Verizon minutes with the OnStar phone in my car. Then there's the 3G thing and weighing the cost. It's a tough call.
  8. However, a younger audience is more valuable for advertising money, so the ratings do not necessarily tell the whole story. The older crowd has plenty of money to spend. It's just that they want to decide on their own how they want to spend it. The younger crowd is a whole lot easier for advertisers to convince to buy their products.
  9. battlekow, does this approximate what you see on your iPhone? http://images.yuku.com/image/png/87635f48524e44dd55a34ad905dafe94e3f000f.png It's the post editor I'm seeing in Safari 4 in Snow Leopard. (I'm having difficulty with it (I can't get a cursor into the post area, so I wonder if the problems are interrelated.) As you say, the Quick Reply editor works, but if you try to preview, you'll be continuing your post in the WYSIWYG editor. To prevent that, you might try setting your account preference to display Quick Reply as your default editor. To make the change, follow these steps: Hit the Account link in the navigation bar.Hit the Preferences link in the Settings box at the lower right.Change your editor type at the bottom of the page, and hit Submit. The one downside to choosing the plain text editor this way is that it'll be what pops up when hitting Reply in any browser. If you need different editors in different browsers, you'll have to change your preferences each time you need a different editor. 10. The NFL is having a "fandemonium" promotion. Since our board is technically called "brewersfandemonium," I wonder if we should sue. With the right settlement, it should be possible to pay for Brewerfan, LambeauLeap, and both boards for quite a number of years. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. Yuku is now "a social universe of communities united by people and their passions."
  12. We're now being told that the issues are fixed. But we were also told that around 9:00 before things started going haywire again. I guess we just wait and see.
  13. I don't think it's happened here, but it's happening all over Yuku tonight. Board members are being asked to apply for membership even though they're already members. On some boards, it's happening to every member. Don't freak out if that happens. It's nothing personal. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. i understand that Fox gets fine ratings for its Seinfeld reruns in the same timeslot Actually, FOX doesn't rerun Seinfeld. Local affiliates do. Syndicated programming is profitable because it cuts out having to give a share to a network.
  15. I think that getting a lawyer probably enhances the chances of amicability rather than hurting it.
  16. I just tested a couple via AT&T and I'm fine. That would seem to eliminate Google sites being a problem for everybody. What happens if you try a ping or a traceroute?
  17. His range factor on his career is below average The problem with Range Factor is that it's so dependent on the pitching staff and the players surrounding a given defender. It might be useful under a very narrow set of circumstances, but for the most part, I think it's better to work with other defensive metrics.
  18. At least Escobar and Gomez bring a speed factor to the lineup. A soft ground ball turns into a hit - beats waiting for a home run... Gomez's .292 OBP already includes any soft ground balls that might have turned into hits. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I think there's the potential to improve on that, but it's not likely going to be because more soft ground balls turn into hits. Rather, it would be through developing more solid contact and increasing his BB rate.
  19. I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but get a lawyer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. One thing that's too bad is that next week's Tonight Show guests had to be canceled: President Obama, the queen, the pope, and Elvis.
  21. Peavey, you can tell how much late night talk I watch. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I've actually been watching or DVRing both O'Brian and Leno over the past few days. However, I'm starting to become bored with it.
  22. If I were Conan, I'd create my own company ala Oprah and sell the show in first run syndication, with the stipulation that the program must be shown at 10:35 CT. I think this tack also would have worked for Leno if he would have found himself in that boat. I agree with Al when he says that FOX doesn't seem to be a great option. One attraction of being a FOX affiliate is that stations have much more control over their programming than those affiliated with NBC, ABC, and CBS, and I think we'd find that many wouldn't want to give up another hour to the network. I'm not sure that FOX affiliates would have the choice to delay the show, though. It seems that I read somewhere that it's in their contracts to carry a FOX late night show at its prescribed time if one ever starts up. I could see something like that causing some affiliates to drop FOX in favor of another network or going independent. I can't blame either Conan or Jay for this mess. I place all the blame on NBC. Handing over the Tonight Show to Conan five years before the fact was dumb. Not recognizing the impact of the new Leno show on local news before the fact was dumb. And the idea of moving the Tonight Show back a half an hour was dumb. As someone said above, all this involves having one's cake and eating it, too. It's impossible to accomplish. The idea of moving the Tonight Show back a half hour might be the worst idea of the bunch, and I'm glad Conan was smart enough to prevent that. For fifty-five years, the Tonight Show has been on after local news (first at 10:15 CT, then 10:30 starting in the 1960s, then 10:35 starting in the 1980s). As a matter of fact, NBC has insisted on the importance of the Tonight Show being on after local news in the past. When Channel 4 wanted to delay it for half an hour back in the 1980s (to show syndicated reruns), NBC said no. Channel 4 dropped the Tonight Show from 1984-88, and it was shown on Channel 18.
  23. Wow, this thread got hijacked bad. Yeah, I forgot what topic I was reading. This is one of those threads that would benefit from this trick: Create a new empty bookmark. Give the bookmark a name and put this code into the address (location) field: Every time you open a new page within the topic, open the bookmark. It'll put the lead post on the top of the page you're reading.
