  1. Yeah, I think that was a slip. They were talking Tim Dillard using Ueck's equipment and the possibility that he may need to use Bob's caugh button. Tim said that before Bob's stuff ever got to the Hall of Fame, he (Tim) would be taking it home with him. Dan Plesac and Greg Amsinger were in the booth for a couple of innings. When Dan did some play by play, he kept replacing the names of the guys on the field with Cooper, Yount, etc. And he told a story about the first time he encountered the Fenway Park dugout bathroom, which only had a urinal, and how he had to accommodate himself when he didn't have time to go back to the clubhouse before he took the mound.
  2. People laugh at bad jokes because they're bad. I suppose that makes the jokes good in a bad sort of way.
  3. I'm thinking that the headline writer might not be the same person as the author of the article. The article doesn't really mention "slow" rebuild. Rather, it mentions the need for patience. That's necessary with any type of retooling. My beef with the article is the fact that it uses the term "underwhelming" when it describes the Brewers' winter acquisitions. Most observers are impressed with the turnaround in the Brewers minor league system. In the author's mind, "underwhelming" may refer to the major league acquisitions, but he doesn't effectively make that distinction. I think the Brewers could reach .500 in any season during the rebuild. But that's doesn't mean that the team will be good enough to improve on that record the following season. To make that determination, David Stearns is going to have to zero in on the team's actual talent rather than the win-loss record. Because the Brewers appear to be in a better position than either the Cubs or Astros of a few years ago, I don't think the rebuild is necessarily going to be slow. But none of us will really know that until we get further into it. David's doing the correct thing when he says that the timetable is undetermined at this point. I think the main thing is to avoid the temptation to make costly shortcuts.
  4. I'm fine with the real Hank if he shows up from time to time. But the mascot does nothing for me. With the Maverick thing, it is what it is. As long as the Brewers don't try to market it, Brett should be able to feel free to be himself.
  5. My fourth generation Apple TV is dropping the audio whenever the screen saver kicks in. The third generation Apple TV is working perfectly. MLB tech support says it's their issue and not mine, so hopefully a fix shows up in a few days. I haven't tried video recently, but I had no trouble with it the couple of times I watched archived games over the winter.
  6. Bob Uecker and Len Kasper are saying ARE-cia. Also, if you dig around YouTube, you'll find that the Twins broadcasters pronounce Orlando's name that way. My guess is that everyone except Coshun will get the memo.
  7. At risk of getting way off topic, the Brewers are having a press conference on Hank tomorrow, but they say that nothing's happened.
  8. According to Uecker, Tim Dillard is working tomorrow's webcast with Brian Anderson. Today, he's pitching.
  9. The laugh thing has yet to begin. Maverick's teammates haven't disrupted a Sophia interview yet. And I'd imagine that autograph sessions could be fun.
  10. All of the games are streamed. The Cubs game is available with Cubs broadcasters. The Giants game has feeds from both teams. FWIW, the Cubs broadcaster is Mick Gillispie, not Nick.
  11. We have Len Kasper now. Since this is an mlb.com feed, I wonder if we'll hear Brewers broadcasters later. EDIT: The guy I was hearing is someone named Nick.
  12. I have the audio playing, and right now, there's a very tentative unfamiliar guy giving the lineups. Today's game vs. the Cubs apparently has the DH. EDIT: It's the Cubs feed with Len Kasper.
  13. Following one's team around the Phoenix area would be nothing compared to following one's team around Florida. And it's also nothing for those who travel 1,800 miles to do it. Keep in mind that fans travel to Miller Park from all over southern Wisconsin, sometimes several times a week. I could see where someone living around Phoenix might be a little more choosy. But if I lived there, I'd probably choose my games based on the times and dates that were convenient rather than the location of the games.
  14. The move to the OF raised my eyebrow too. But unless he's a lousy first baseman, I'd guess that the move wouldn't preclude a move back to 1B in the future if that's where he's ultimately needed. Adding the OF to his repertoire would offer some flexibility, especially if he turns out to be a bench player. If you think in those terms, this might not be a bad idea.
  15. I've added the TV and radio schedule to the [a=p974499]lead post[/a]. If you have a MLB.com subscription, opponents' feeds are likely available for some of the games not covered by the Brewers. I don't believe that any spring training broadcasts are blacked out.
  16. We'll use this topic for discussion of all spring training game action. This can include games not involving the Brewers. 17. Last week, I saw Mac malware for the first time. Yes, it does happen. It was on a friend's computer, and it came from a fake Flash installer. It installed three rogue apps and hijacked Safari. When surfing, she encountered "error" messages asking her to call a fake Microsoft for technical assistance. Getting it required downloading and installation by the user. That can happen on any OS, no matter how secure it might be otherwise. The lesson is to get software from a trusted source.
  18. It's an absolute given that one or more of Maverick's teammates will cause him to crack up like that during a Sophia post-game interview. As an aside, it looks like Matt Garza is laughing as hard as Brett; that's a good thing.
  19. Brian Anderson's position is that if you can't get clear and convincing evidence in a reasonable amount of time, the call on the field should stand. Most replays are decided in short order and aren't a problem, but some are unbearably long. The videos in the broadcasts are the same as the ones used in New York. I don't think a call that isn't straightforward and fairly quick would become a joke.
  20. I suppose Santana could go into a massive funk during camp - strikeout 50% of the time or something like that. I think a "massive funk" would have to be occurring in the eyes of the powers that be: the coaches, Craig Counsell, Matt Arnold, and David Stearns. I wouldn't use box score stats; the sample is too small, and there are too many variables in spring training that we don't see during the regular season. Using strikeouts as an example, I wouldn't use a high number to send him down unless the underlying reason is something that causes concern.
  21. I'm all for breaking up the double play, but there's a limit. Sliding nowhere near the base and making contact above the knees are well beyond what's reasonable. The rule seems to be fair and clear without being unreasonably restrictive. I'll withhold judgment on visits to the mound until I see the rule in action. I'm fine with the general concept of a time limit; it'll be interesting to see how the details work out.
  22. Is it confirmed the DH is coming to the NL? No. It was a rumor that was downplayed by the commissioner.
  23. Kyle Davies, possible long-term, cheap #4/#5 starter comes in return. Zach Davies. It was pointed out elsewhere that Hill's issue is that he's a pull hitter who's lost power and can't rely on pulling the ball anymore. That would mean that being "not extremely far from being a very productive player" isn't likely something that offers a lot of hope. To become a useful hitter once again, he's going to need to "reinvent" himself.
  24. Maybe you had strep throat all along? The good news is that the medication will make you feel a whole lot better really soon.
  25. I'm kind of crossing my fingers on Cecchini too, but I guess there's no rush. I guess it makes sense to start Hill at 3B and make it his job to lose. The Brewers will have to pay him no matter what. If he happens to produce, he becomes worth a little in a trade. Even if Hill's the usual 3B starter, I don't see a problem if he's part of the plan at 2B on Scooter's days off. There are lots of options at both positions, and guys are going to need playing time.
