I'm not ready to write Cravy off, but out of the six guys who will be starting the upcoming games, I think that he's the one that we have the least amount of need to see. I'd bet on him starting 2016 in the AAA rotation or in the Brewers bullpen. I don't know if innings limits come into play or not. All I really know is that per Brian Anderson, Jungmann has an innings limit, but he's not in danger of reaching it. If Cravy were skipped on Sunday and López moved up, that would mean one more start for Davies. So really, it's a start for Davies vs. a start for Cravy. It wouldn't make any notable difference for the others. If it were me, I'd have skipped Cravy and used him as the backup in case other plans fell through.

It looks like Jungmann tomorrow, Peña on Friday, Wagner on Saturday, Cravy on Sunday, and López on Tuesday.

Theoretically, three lefties in a row isn't good lineup construction. If these guys were semi-dangerous hitters (which you'd kind of expect at the top of the order), the opposition could bring in a lefty specialist to face three hitters.

Per Craig Counsell, Peralta has also been shut down.

Buy a scorebook at a sporting goods store. That way, you'd only have the occasional expense of a pencil when you forget one. As an alternative, I think an iPad might be a nice way to score. Maybe also an iPhone, although the screen would be somewhat smaller.

Yeah, I'd say that we're missing out on information in general, and this is only one example. I'd like to be told "hit or error" rather than risk missing it during the brief time it may appear on the scoreboard. I suppose that scoreboard activities (fans dancing, games, etc.) get in the way of announcing substitutions. But a compromise might be to make the announcement once the inning has started. Better late than never. I'm going to move this thread over to the Major League forum. It seems to be a fit for either spot; the Major League forum is likely to give the topic a larger audience.

Yeah, you don't want to add someone to the roster until he's out of options or until he's going to be here to stay. I think you can invite anyone you want and probably even suit them up for pregame workouts. But I'm sure they'd be restricted from being in the dugout during games.

We're not in the position to know where Jimmy or anyone else is mentally, so all we can do is speculate from our position. As Briggs said, the staff "looks" mentally drained vs. saying the staff "is" mentally drained. We do know that oftentimes when coming back from an injury, players like to make a late season appearance vs. waiting until spring. That's cool when it's safe to do it. Given that this is a head injury and there isn't much time to recover, it makes sense to wait.

It appears that the price for Major League talent this year was high and that sellers made out very well. That wasn't the case a couple of years ago. As craigharmann states, there wasn't really a spot in the Astros' outfield for Santana unless they traded a current starter. But that leads me to think of how great it would be to be able to bring up a minor leaguer in July and have him help bring the team a postseason berth. It's kind of the best of both worlds; adding talent for the stretch run and not giving up a prospect to do it.

Student teachers are not only unpaid, they get to pay tuition to do it. But the situation ends after a period of months rather than years. Also, it's part of getting a college degree vs. being a means of livelihood, and those who really need it will have financial aid available, just as they would have throughout the rest of their college education. Minor leaguers don't really have "aid" if their families aren't able to help out.

Asking fans to endure that kind of futility… How a GM keeps the fans in mind during a rebuild may be worthy of its own thread if someone feels inclined to start one. There are going to be a lot of losses during a rebuild. There's no way around that. But I'd submit that if the GM can keep enough pitching and defense on hand to minimize the kind of things that torture the fans and players (e.g. prolonged innings full of errors, numerous walks, and multiple pitching changes), the end result of the game would become more bearable. From my standpoint, I think I could put up with a futile offense much more than futile pitching and defense. Dave pointed out that we have a savvy fan base. That's going to help. I think back to Corey Hart's first at bat back on 25 May 2004, his only Major League plate appearance that season. The fans were yelling "Corey!, Corey!" — indicating that they definitely knew who he was and that they were pinning some of their hopes on him. Along the same line, Mark indicated yesterday that while the Brewers haven't been very "transparent" about the rebuild, everyone has been smart enough to figure out what they're doing. The fans saw the previous rebuild yield positive results (to a degree). They also saw what didn't work, i.e. trading off the farm until there was little talent left. They've seen the successful results of other teams' rebuilding. And they see the value of the recently acquired talent and have a tangible example right now in Domingo Santana. I think that the bottom line is that it's all about the fans, even if it means enduring losses now in order to hopefully sustain winning down the road.

The game itself sucked, but the pre- and post- game shows have had more than their share of interesting news to report.

I think he's "paid dues." He's worked for three different organizations plus the commissioner's office.

I think he's been experiencing back tightness to some degree all year. He says it's still manageable and that he can probably play before the season is out. I don't see any great need for him to do that, but if the risk isn't significant, I don't see much harm either.

A subsequent report, also from Sophia, said that there was "still head trauma." Either I missed that in the first report or she worded the second one differently. I don't see any big conflict, though. I agree that sitting is probably for the best, but jerichoholicninja makes the obvious counterpoint.

Per Sophia in today's pregame show. Nothing's significantly wrong, but the feeling is that it doesn't make sense to take any risks at this point. Tyler Cravy will take tomorrow's start. The pitcher who'll take Nelson's turn on Sunday is yet to be determined.
