  1. Yeah, I'm scratching my head too. In fairness, the commentators weren't really "hating." I'd say they were expressing confusion, and rightfully so. A couple of years ago during a snap of 100 degree days, the Brewers announced that for those games, the roof would remain open during light rain. But it's only a little over 70 degrees today. It'll be interesting to see if the Brewers have any comment on this. Now that it's closing, the commentators are also befuddled by the fact that the roof panels are moving independently from one another. But it's understandable that they haven't gotten the memo that there are three ways to move the roof. High speed closes it quickly, a slower speed is available for high wind conditions, and the "manual" method moves the panels independently.
  2. Oddly, it's raining, and the roof is still open.
  3. How to handle surnames that start with lowercase letters. I've run into two this week (deGrom, de la Rosa) when prepping in-game threads. If they're standing alone or in the middle of a sentence, it's easy to leave things alone. What to do with them at the beginning of a sentence is another story. Some suggest capitalizing every word that begins a sentence, meaning that the first letter of surname should be capitalized in this one situation. Others are clear as mud. If you start examining how the major newspaper sites handle this, it's easy to see why there's no consistency.
  4. Well, nobody's currently banned for drugs, so that's not really an issue as far as Hall of Fame eligibility is concerned. The two players who've been banned for drugs (Ferguson Jenkins and Steve Howe) were both reinstated, and voters elected Jenkins to the Hall.
  5. When the ban was issued, part of it was that Rose could apply for reinstatement every year. I believe he's done that four times. Jayson Stark had an interesting take. He feels that Rose should be inducted due to his historical significance and that his gambling history should be noted on his plaque. What he isn't pointing out is that the Hall can do all of that without enshrining him. My understanding is that Rose is already very well covered in the museum, just as other non-enshrined players might be if they've done something historically significant (either positive or negative). But as I've said, the MLB ban and Hall eligibility are two separate things. I think the MLB ban has to stand. But if the Hall wants to change its stance on banned players and let voters decide on enshrinement, I'm open to that discussion.

  8. The ban has to stand; he shouldn't be representing the sport or a team in either an official or unofficial capacity. But if the Hall wants to change its rules and allow banned players onto its ballots, I can live with that.

  10. The lifetime ban and Hall of Fame eligibility are two different things… sort of. The Hall chooses to disqualify players who are under lifetime bans. If it were to change its rules, Rose could be considered even if the lifetime ban remained in effect.
  11. Wow. This is really sad. There's not much else to say.

  15. Nice outfield assist by Peterson to cut down Alex Gordon at the plate.
  16. The TV coverage has been corrected in the lead. The game is on Fox Sports 1 rather than FSWI.

  18. 3TO is something that's fun and interesting. It doesn't add to or detract from value on its own. Branyan's value came from his generally good OBP and excellent SLG. The real debate centered around his strikeouts; stat gurus felt that his K numbers unnecessarily scared GMs away.

  20. They'd be obligated to pay him anything that's guaranteed, so I'd assume that they're obligated to the $300,000. Wang would forfeit the money if he refuses outright assignment. With that amount of money involved, I doubt that he'd refuse.
