Nick Castellanos

I would easily do Castellanos for 5 years at $14 per and not even think twice about it. You know how you alleviate defensive concerns?? Have pitchers that miss bats, that's how. -

You guys worry way too much about defense. Who really cares?? With a bat like that, you live with it. With all the shifting that goes on now days, there are ways of "hiding" it anyway. I mean, I'm pretty sure that a majority of you that are lambasting Castellanos about his bad defense were also saying it would never work moving Moose to 2nd. How did that work out?? Bat plays..period. -

Please please PLEASE make this happen DS...if he becomes a Brewer I'd be totally ecstatic. -
For some reason, I think the Brewers are done making moves. As much as I hate it, I think Sogard will get most of the games at 3B. I think if the Crew was going to do anything else, they would have done it by now. That's not based on anything other than gut feel. I also say this because IF they still go out and get a starting 3B, Stearns then did things kind of backwards this year in that he signed a bunch of "fillers" BEFORE going out and getting a starting 3B. I'd have thought that would have been the 1st order of business, and THEN the filler pieces he signed. I mean that would only make sense, wouldn't it?? Get your most glaring holes filled first, so you can then move on to the more non essential things. He didn't do that though. Again, I think they are done, unfortunately.
-
Not enough power to play 3rd regularly IMO. To me, your corner infielders should be a minimum of 25-30 HR guys, and if you have a SS, C or 2B that have above average power for their position, that's just a huge bonus.
-
DS must be feeling like he has to play Santa this holiday season..he's gift wrapping Josh to the Yankees. IF there is ANY truth to an Andujar/Frazier deal at all, all I can say is DS must REALLY REALLY REALLY want to trade Josh, or I should say give him away.
-
I guess I'm a bit perplexed why so many seemingly would be okay with just getting a package of prospects for Josh?? To me, you have to get something at least as impactful or more than Josh is for the current team. I really think if DS traded Josh for nothing more than a package of prospects, no matter how good they MAY become, he would get crucified, and probably rightly so. You can't subtract a piece like that from the current team, and not get an immediate impact back. That would be tough to explain I think.
-
I just don't see how you could trade Josh without getting at least one major headliner piece back.
-
+1000, they have much better pieces and it's not even close in my opinion.
-
Strawman, not one person has made the claim that DS is perfect. Pretty close, they seem to LOVE every move he makes, or if they don't love it, they don't criticize it much either. All I'm saying is, it is entirely possible he totally bungles a Hader trade. It's also entirely possible he kills it. It's just that some people, no matter what he may get or any move he makes, will think it's great, even if it's really not.
-
I mean, just reading people's comments, it sure seems like the group that thinks his value isn't what some of us insist it is. Speak in absolutes like they are 100% right, and those of us that want more are "dreaming" and there is NO way he is worth that much, or that they would ever get that much. Why?? Because you say so?? Some people think he's worth a few questionable Yankees prospects(like Andujar etc), others think he's worth way more than that. Who knows who is right and who isn't?? Just because you may not think he's worth as much as some think he is, doesn't make it true, and just because some of us think he's worth a lot, doesn't make that true either. And IF Stearns does trade him, and whatever package he gets, I hope people don't think just because that's what he acquired, means, that must have been all he was worth. That's not necessarily true. DS isn't perfect people, he makes mistakes. He SHOULD be smart enough to know that whoever he trades him to, he should be absolutely fleecing that team, because quite simply, he doesn't HAVE to trade him. I mean when we need to take out a loan for something, we have to pay interest right?? So obviously, that $10,000 is worth more than just $10,000 right?? The bank has something we want/need, and if we need/want it badly enough, we pay what they are asking for. Yes, we can always shop around and get the best deal, but no matter what, that $10,000 loan is still going to cost us more than $10,000 even if we don't think it should be.
-
I guess I'm curious because I see this in a lot of threads here, but for some of you, can Stearns do no wrong?? No matter what he does, you will trust him and think he "hit it out of the park" whether it's a trade, FA signing etc?? Sure, he knows more then we do, but let's keep in mind, he hasn't been perfect(see, going with three young arms to start last year). he has done a lot of good things, they don't need to be rehashed we all know what they are, but again, he hasn't been perfect.

Data is fine, no question about it, but a lot of times, and it's not just posters here but people in a lot of different places think analytical numbers are gospel. That's what bothers me about it. People have clung to analytics like they are the be all end all, and an absolutely perfect system. I have news for those people. It's not perfect. never has been, never will be. Sometimes, keeping it simple is all you need. I mean look at how many people here cite War...like it's the be all end all and if they don't have this or that War, that means they aren't very good, as if that tells them everything they need to know. It isn't. I mean back before analytics existed, people were able to tell who was good and who wasn't by using the simple eye test(which to me is still accurate), now, it seems people don't trust their eyes enough that they are relying on analytics to essentially "do the work for them". How did we ever survive this life without analytics and advanced metrics??
-
He's played over 4400 innings(527 games) in his career at 3B(54 errors). His career fielding % at 3B is .955. That 's good enough for me. His bat makes up for that IMO. You might be right that his bat can make up for his D, but fielding % isn’t at all an accurate way to measure defense. It's accurate enough for me. Whatever i choose to use, is what it will be. Back when I played baseball, we didn't have all these fancy metrics to "measure" things. They weren't necessary. You could tell a good ball player when you saw one. Why that isn't still true today, I'm not sure, but sometimes, we saturate ourselves so much in analytics now that it becomes over kill.

This is the way i see it...why would you trade the best reliever in baseball for a centerpiece 3B, when you could keep Hader, sign a better bat in Castellanos, no worse defensively, is still only 27 years old(so comfortable easily going 4-5 year deal with him) and keep Hader when all Castellanos would cost you is $$(which you have) that does far more to improve the team now and the next few years, then trading Hader for a guy you HOPE will be as good of a bat, and would give you about the same amount of control as signing Castellanos would?? To me, it's an no brainer which way to go on that.
-
Ummm might want to do some research as Garcia ended the year in AAA. Regardless, he's 20 years old and not a major league piece, not instantly anyway.
-
I mean, I know most people always thinks trades should be fair for both teams, but my question would be...why?? If you are the GM that wants an asset you have, that they know you don't HAVE to get rid of, unless you get EXACTLY what you want, then to me, you should be expected to over pay. It all comes down to how bad do you want/need that player?? And if you don't want to pay the price I'm asking, then you obviously don't want that player bad enough.
-
I don't think anyone necessarily thinks that they are, we are simply stating what WE(as GM) would require from the Yankees to move Hader. If the answer is "no" on Gleyber, then for me, that's fine, you simply move on and keep Josh. I just don't know how you could deal an all star player, and fan favorite like Josh for a package of prospects. You'd be vilified I think. Sure, the deal can include SOME prospects, but it also has to include at least one or two proven major league talents. Otherwise DS's statement about contending will ring hollow. This is all based on what? I can put my house on the market for $500,000 and truly believe it's worth that but if he high bid is $350,000 then is it really worth $500,000 or have I misjudged the value? Sure, I can stubbornly hang on to my house and risk that it won't start falling apart because I arbitrarily believe it's worth $500,000 when the market clearly says it isn't worth that. S0 you can hang on to Hader but if this is his high point in value and his value is going to depreciate, what are you going to get for him later? If the Dodgers were going to give up Lux and May in a deal then Lindor would most likely be a Dodger by now. If they aren't giving that up for Lindor, they aren't giving that up for Hader. I think the value placed on Hader has gotten way far out of control and a bit hyperbolic at this point. You aren't getting Torres (or Judge or Severino) and I highly doubt you get Lux AND May. And I'm not sure the smart play is to hang on to Hader. I wouldn't say you misjudged the value of your house...I'd say people are low balling you in hopes of getting it for less then what it's worth(even if it's only in your eyes). Everyone always wants something cheaper then what it's truly worth. You can hang on to the house, and still get plenty of use out of it, no harm, no foul. That's better then underselling it, just to under sell it. You might also benefit from hanging on to it as you don't know what the market will be like in a year or two when maybe, you could get even MORE than what you originally anticipated.

And I'm not sure the smart play is to hang on to Hader. So just give him away essentially?? What you are going to get from him if you hold on to him is dominance...that's far more valuable to me then an underwhelming return. I would rather run Hader into the ground the next 4+ years(while Yelich is still here at least), and be competitive, then give him away for less than what you should get for him. Right or wrong, Chapman fetched Torres. That should be the starting point for return for Hader. Again, how do you explain to the fanbase, you traded away one of the teams most popular players for guys that most fans would say "who" about?? I mean, if you are applying this theory to Hader, then you might as well trade Yelich now too right??
-
Why does it matter that Castellanos is out there? They already have enough OF and their hole is at 3B. And no he’s not a 3B just like Braun isn’t Because I'm concerned about not having enough lineup protection for Yelich above all else. They still need a big bat. No question about it. If you can get a guy like him, you do it, and figure out positions/playing time later. I don't worry about defense so much with all the shifting etc that goes on now days. You make it work. Bat always plays.

Nothing more than Twitter rumors but it sounds like those first two pieces (Garcia and Andujar) are agreed on. It's the sweeteners preventing a deal to this point. Also seems like other teams are jumping in to help drive the offers closer to what the Brewers are willing to accept. If this is true, the sweeteners better include Dominguez++. Otherwise this will be an extremely underwhelming return. If they could get something like the 4 you listed above and Dominguez, I could at least stomach it. Stearns would have to be very high on Garcia to pull the trigger. I would much rather get a big headlining piece in a trade and get 3 guys back total instead of getting a bunch of decent talent and getting 5. Not saying Dominguez couldn’t be special down the road if he was part of a return, but there’s not much coming back to really help us now. Frazier and Ford are totally blocked with what we have on the roster currently. Garcia isn’t ready to be on the big league roster. The only immediate help we would get is Andujar who is Braun bad at third. Hopefully there is better out there. Exactly this...very underwhelming return. I don't know how you would explain this one to the fan base, that you traded one of the teams most popular players(all star, reliever of the year etc), for pieces that do nothing to help the current team, after you proclaimed you expect to compete this year. As others have said, the haul had better be MASSIVE, like jaw dropping massive. As you stated you HAVE to get a headliner piece back, absolutely have to.

IF...IF this is true...those 1st two pieces are incredibly underwhelming, at least to me they are. Again, no Gleyber...no deal with the Yankees. Especially since I bet you could get the Dodgers to part with Lux at least. I mean obviously rankings are just that...rankings, but Garcia is only ranked as the 62nd best prospect in the minors(not to mention only at AA, does nothing to help this years team, or even next years probably). You should do better than that for a weapon like Hader...a proven major leaguer(at least 1...Andujar doesn't qualify as that to me) and at least a top 20 prospect(in all of baseball). Dodgers for Gavin Lux and Dustin May makes a lot more sense to me...I just want a crap ton for the best weapon in all of baseball.

I still can't help but think about the Brewers currently have a gaping hole at 3B, the need for a big time middle of the order bat, and Castellanos and Donaldson are still out there.
