  1. I have digital access and with one converter box plus taxes and fees the bill is $66.64. They may offer discounts for 6 or 12 months if you are new, though. Getting the Brewer games is not the only, but is probably the top reason why I spend $800 per year on cable. There are a lot of alternative ways to get much of what is on TV, but not for getting the Brewer games in the local market. For my wife and I, we'd spend that much going to about 8 games in person (club level and a beer or two each). Not that having the games on TV means that we don't go, I just mean that the amount we pay to see them on TV is a relative bargain. But, of course, I certainly understand that this is a luxury that some can not afford.
  2. Because it didn't make sense to put a team in Florida in the AL West? But they could have put Tampa in the NL east, AZ in NL west and left the Brewers in the AL (glad they did not). Apparently it was decided to add one new franchise to each league and then only at the last minute did they realize that 15 teams in each league would create a problem? It appears KC had the first option to switch: http://articles.latimes.c...7/oct/16/sports/sp-43406 and this realignment was a fall-back from Selig's grand realignment where the AL would be only in the Eastern time zone: http://roadsidephotos.sabr.org/baseball/bb97-7.htm That scheme would also explain why Tampa was designated to be AL and AZ NL.
  3. Since this would also have to include abolishing the DH (I don't want to even think about the horror of the other option of making the DH universal), changing leagues would be less significant than in the past and may be a positive for them as the two Texas teams would then be in the same division. OTOH, they might resist and say Milwaukee should go back to the AL, in which case we go to the AL Central and move KC to the AL west, still giving the Rangers a division opponent in the same time zone.
  4. Not on that, since I do not have an HD TV, but I did complain again (to both WMLW and FSN) about the terrible quality of their picture.
  5. Same old crap from WMLW, I just don't get why the picture is so dark. I had brightness up to 100% and it was still dark. My standards are not real high, we still have an 8 year old SD tube TV.
  6. Bet-on-Baseballs-Getting-Through_The_Infield doesn't have much of a ring to it...&nbsp Yuno Bet-he-can't-get-it?
  7. Maybe it could still work pretty well with 30 teams and an unbalanced shedule, just have 2 divisions with 8 and two with 7. 6 divisions with 5 each would also be fine with me (though, that creates time zone issues)...makes scheduling easier though, eg. play 15 teams in other league 3 times each, 10 teams in other divisions of same league 6 times and 14 against each division opponent (that's a 161 game schedule). Mainly I like the idea of playing every team every year, or really just having the same schedule (or at least very close to it) for all teams in a division (and doing away with the DH is a nice bonus).
  8. I like the divisions in this plan (some variation on this would be fine, too): http://www.nydailynews.co...s_how_it_could_look.html Don't like the play 6 against every team aspect, I prefer an "unbalanced" schedule. I don't care if they contract, expand, or stay the same, but the divisions should differ by no more than 1 team. I love the idea of getting rid of the DH and think expanding roster to 27 players makes a lot of sense since the norm is 12 pitchers now. (Unbalanced schedule with this alignment could be 13 games against each division opponent, 6 against the other division in the league, and 3 against the 14 teams in the other league. Or 17 division and 3 against each other team in the league.)
  9. The biggest problem with any fix is the DH rule. If that did not exist, then interleague play every day or moving from one league to another would not be such a barrier to any realignment. The other problem is including AZ, there are 7 teams on pacific time (AZ is in mtn time zone, but does not do daylight savings time). There is only 1 team in the Mountain time zone. So if they want no more than two time zones in a division, need these to either be in one division of 8 or two divisions of 4.
  10. It could be worse, it appears that the AZ Diamondbacks no longer even exist: http://www.usatoday.com/s...ague-west-capsules_N.htm
  11. It seems pretty clear that Braun is not and never was an owner. Braun, the Milwaukee Brewers' star left fielder, is not an owner of the restaurant. SURG, like RB Hospitality Group before it, has a licensing agreement with him. http://www.jsonline.com/business/112662649.html
  12. I think it's also true that fans generally overvalue prospects on their own teams. I think it depends on the type of fan. The average fan does not, I think, follow these prospects like many here do and so probably undervalues them. So as a more typical fan, myself (in that I pretty much do not pay attention to the minor league prospects) I see they got apparently a #1 pitcher from the toughest division in baseball for someone I never heard of, who may amount to nothing. The tiny bit I read about him implies he is yet another bat with poor defense, a player type that the Brewers have had an over supply of for years. There was a lot of complaining when LaPorta was traded, too. But since then (just based on comments here, I've not followed his career myself) it does not seem like he has amounted to much. There is also the possibility that they end up keep Prince and get a shot at picking two new prospects to restock.
  13. Here's your list of candidates: Bob Brenly Cecil Cooper Pat Listach Bob Melvin Willie Randolph Dale Sveum Joe Torre http://www.jsonline.com/sports/104256094.html
  14. http://www.bbtia.com/home...-the-rangers-richer.html Assuming 3% inflation, this is equivalent to about $50 million per year in today's dollar, for the years 2015-2034.
  15. That is also the problem with adding a team to NY. I think it might be more likely to work if the new team is in a different state...like Nevada or Oregon in the west, or NJ or CT/RI in NY area. Looking at current team locations and a list of the largest metro areas, the only locations that I don't think have been mentioned yet, might be Tennessee (Memphis or Nashville) or Indianapolis. Then there are the international options: Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic,...
  16. I don't know if it is or is not a "small market", but at least you have provided some evidence beyond Joe Morgan's "they signed Mauer for $184 million...".http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I think the Twins also benefit from being a long distance from any other team. The nearest teams to them are Milwaukee, St. Louis, KC, Colorado, and Seattle. Meanwhile Milwaukee has Chicago 90 miles away, with two teams that each have been around continuously for over 100 years.
  17. Well, you got your answer to the first question. The usual pattern seems to be when the Brewer pitchers attempt to retaliate, they miss.
  18. ...based on the bits of information that come out, the brewers clubhouse is closer to B than to A (my assumption) Perhaps the situation is more like A for some players and more like B for others? In fact, that is probably most likely the case and was probably the case with Yost, as well. Corey Hart seemed to be pretty interested in staying with this team and there seems to be some evidence that Weeks is also. Jim Edmunds seemed reluctant to leave. Trevor Hoffman seems to be quite content here. I don't really care if they change managers, the fans need a scapegoat and don't like Macha's style or at least with the team losing they have focused on that, so he is probably it. Were the team winning with Macha, we'd be probably be hearing something like: how he has been a steady, calming influence on the players during the pressure of a pennant race...maybe things such as those that have been written about another manager, who has only been thrown out of about 3 games per season in his long career (I don't know how many of those were by request, though http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif): "...Torre's calm demeanor has helped limit conflict in the clubhouse and prevent dramatic collapses on the field" "The steady hand behind this team, of course, was Joe Torre, a manager whose calm, self-possessed style..."
  19. What he said was: "I feel really bad about it...It wasn't on purpose, but he's my teammate. I hope he's getting better." Rather than nit-pick his comments, I just assumed that english was not his first language and he meant that even though it was accidental he still felt bad about it...
  20. Why younger? I thought baseball fans tended to be older, not younger. http://www.gallup.com/pol...icans-baseball-fans.aspx ..there are significant age differences on the favorite sport question. In the combined data from the 2004-2005 measurements, just 6% of 18-to 29-year-olds say baseball is their favorite sport. That compares with 10% among 30-to 49-year-olds, 11% among 50-to 64-year olds, and 18% among those aged 65 and older.
  21. The commemorative bat that is being advertised seems like a very peculiar way to mark 600 saves for Hoffman. I don't know, can I get a Hank Aaron 715th HR commemorative pitching rubber with that? http://www.ezboard.com/in...ges/emoticons/ohwell.gif
  22. I think it would actually be 15% this year and potentially 20% next year. I would just see that as a reason for cashing on his gains this year, if he did have the chance to move on to a team that actually plays where he lives.
  23. Let's assume the guy is telling the truth about what his comment was. To me, calling that "a homophobic slur" is just more grandstanding. Froemming is just circling the wagons around one of his umpire buddies, imo. I did not get the impression he heard the fan, my impression was he was reporting that Davidson had told him the fan was making "profane" comments. Here's more of what Davidson has to say about it: Davidson laughed when asked about the crew making four ejections in one game. "I thought it was great," he said. http://www.kansascity.com...cause.html#ixzz0z3t066NI
  24. I agree with Duncan...I think it is ridiculous that the Brewers, MP security, and/or the Sheriffs dept are taking orders from MLB umpires and putting people in handcuffs for creative heckling. OTOH, Froemming, with his the umpire is always right and gotta protect the women and children comments is another matter... "Davidson did what you do when there's profanity in the stands with women and children sitting there..." Give me a break!
  25. Surely would not want the umpires ejecting any fan who razzes the other team's players, because it is supposedly "unfair"? The playing field does not include the fans in the stands. Your logic would seem to ultimately lead to a requirement that all fans sit silently in the stands (no cheering, booing, etc. and better stop the home team from doing things like suggesting "make some noise" too) or risk ejection by the umpire. It is not the job of the umpires to supervise the fans in the stands. The most the umpire should have done was suggest to the usher that he monitor the fan that he thought was going too far. Umpires should not be authorized to throw a fans in the stands out of the ballpark...and I do not think they are.
