  1. I'm thinkin' that every day http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  2. See the footnote (5) operating income defined as "Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization." does not equal "profit".
  3. "8 figures can mean a lot of things too...any thing from essentially a round off error to obscene profits in the case of the Brewers" Yes, he said there that they "made a little money"...presumably this was because attendance and therefore revenue exceeded expectations. Meanwhile the former owners did book $39 million in profits during the first three years in MP (that means the average was "8 figures"...so why are they drooling? http://www.rodneyfort.com...pense/WIBrewersAudit.pdf Documented facts and concrete numbers would be more meaningful than unsubstantiated assertions...got any?
  4. Anyone else tired of the whining? http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/101597738.html But Prince, how come the guys on the other team scored 7 on 11 hits yesterday?
  5. So you are saying Mark A is a liar? http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/90317417.html
  6. The Brewers have lived up to their bargain of fielding a competitive team. The Pirates haven't. Shouldn't the Brewers be rewarded for that? I like that idea, they should add a success component to the the revenue sharing formula. If you have made good use of past shared revenue, as demonstrated by success on the field (like the Brewers, Tampa, Marlins), you should get a bit more than you would otherwise. If it appears that you have not spent the money wisely, based on results, then you should get a bit less. If you have failed on the field, and yet profited (like the Pirates) then you should get much less shared revenue! The point of sharing revenue is to increase the competitive balance, not to create operating income for the owners.
  7. There's a third option, plow money back into the organization, scouting, signing Latin American prospects, and break even. Why is that not an acceptable outcome? It's likely that the Pirates wouldn't turn a profit at all without help from the government and other teams, so what has ownership done to deserve a profit other than join a cushy cartel? Yep, and if the owners want out there will be someone else waiting to buy the team for more than they had paid, so in the long run they will still have some gain on their "investment". Owning a baseball team should not be seen as a real investment by the owners, they should (and I think most do) treat it as a leisure/entertainment/hobby expense...with the potential for a long term gain. Attanasio has not generated profits, but were he to sell there would apparently be a gain of about 50% over the 2005 purchase price. http://www.forbes.com/lis...ukee-Brewers_337147.html I sure wish I had made a 50% cumulative gain on my investments over the last 5 years (instead of the 28% I did make). BTW, aside from the undeserved profits the Pirate owners have taken, it appears they would triple their money over a 14 year period were they to sell, that alone translates to an 8% annualized return. http://www.forbes.com/lis...urgh-Pirates_339965.html
  8. Not only that, if they spent the money and had no profit there would be no taxes to worry about. I had always assumed that team owners were not in this to make a profit, but just for the glory of winning. In addition to profits, are the owners also paying themselves a fat salary as corporate officers in the case of teams that are corporations or as the managing partner (or whatever the correct term would be) for those that are not incorporated?
  9. ...and then they might proceed from there to a moratorium on demanding taxpayer subsidies in the form a free ballpark in just about every market. The system stinks, every team demands taxpayer subsidies in order to be able to compete with the other teams who have gotten taxpayer subsidies. I think nothing would really change for the fans if each team had shoulder an average cost of, say, $50 million per year in paying for their own stadiums and this meant reduced profits for the team owner's and/or that the average player made only, say, $2 million per year, instead of $4 million.
  10. What is the basis for the claim that any "crime" has been committed? The Pirates statement: "Someone with access to the Club's financial statements has breached his/her fiduciary obligation to the Club by providing a copy of the Club's audited financial statements for the 2007 and 2008 seasons to the Associated Press," and "The Club is a private company that has no obligation to publicly report its financial results and, like most private companies, has consistently declined to do so." does not seem to make this "crime" claim. Someone may get fired...perhaps more, but I doubt anyone will be facing criminal charges or a potential prison sentence.
  11. If they drew 2.5 million, about a 50% increase from 2008, then gate and concessions would go up approximately proportionately adding about $22-23 million. Then they'd about break-even at player payroll of 51 + 15 + 22 = $88 million Boost attendance to 3 million (to estimate the Brewers max) and payroll could go to about $100 million.
  12. ...and others picked around Covey signed for less 13) Chicago White Sox: Chris Sale - $1,656M signing bonus 14) Milwaukee: Dylan Covey - Did not sign, will attend San Diego 15) Texas: Jake Skole - $1.557M signing bonus http://www.baseballrumorm...ft-pick-signing-bonuses/
  13. "Covey said it didn't help that the family didn't have much time to make the decision. Because MLB wanted to hold down bonuses, teams were encouraged to wait as long as possible to make offers. That made it even more difficult to know what to do, said Covey." You know, I'm sorry the kid has diabetes and all, but wasn't his greed the real reason for the lack of time. As I understand it this kid and his dad/agent demanded $2 million+, $1.7 million just was not enough.
  14. Pretty sure I want him fired too. :0 http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/24.gif
  15. Yes, how about discussing who should replace the next manager when they finally fire the bum. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. If this is still the case in Sept, would it be wrong to go any of the 3 games that Cincinnati has at MP and cheer for the Reds? I think that is all that most of the comments here have been about, so I'm not sure if you can claim minority status http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. The mention of the new NYCE name, inspired me to search for what this is, as I had no idea. To my surprise: Metavante Club becomes NYCE Stadium Club - The Business Journal of Milwaukee at: http://milwaukee.bizjourn.../2010/03/22/daily72.html I guess I'm not "out there" as I had no idea what NYCE was before reading that. But, yeah, I guess NYCE is a better name than FIS club would have been.
  18. They have two guys injured and one who apparently can't figure out how to get on a plane. Really does not seem to have much to do with whether there are 4 or 5 guys on the bench.
  19. I suppose they could keep one of: Capuano, Davis, or Bush...whichever one will be the cheapest? OTOH, maybe they'll just fill that spot with Narveson or young pitcher x for about $400K, instead.
  20. With Hart at 1b a possibility for next year, that could be another reason for picking up an additional outfielder.
  21. There's a club level at wrigley???
  22. Thanks for the correction. Not much chance of either, but the odds of the division are still about 2.5 times greater than the wild card.
  23. The fans absolutely loved it and Hoffman is okay with getting yanked if he sucks, so seems like a good idea to let him go for the 3 run saves. One advantage is that if the team scores while he is warming up, he can still come in and finish the game. If Axford is warming up, due to the mindless rules of closer usage, he might have to sit down and let some one else warm up when it becomes a non-save situation.
  24. I would think they have a better chance of winning the division than the do of winning the wild card, because they have to pass "only" two teams to do that. Yep...5.5% chance of winning the division and 2.2% chance of wild card. http://www.baseballprospe...m/statistics/ps_odds.php
  25. Well it's justified because he never plays the young call-ups...just look what he did with Lucroy, oh wait...
