  1. They are paying a 41 year old, Hoffman, $6 million. $4 million for a reliever, who actually pitches, would be far better than the $4 million or so they have been paying Riske to not pitch. I don't know whether http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif or not Weathers is worth $4 million, but it has little to do with his age. Plus, it would not be like it is that risky http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif since it is only one year, unlike the Riske disaster
  2. Right, and he even said that Fischer indicated he'd need to be more conservative because of that. Let's see, Hardy running, no outs, can't see the ball, gotta be more conservative...decision=send him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  3. Hardy was probably out at home if the ball didn't hit him. This 3rd base coach just keeps making the same mistakes over and over again.
  4. Even if it was "two perfect throws" that is not what was required to get him (or at leastto have the ball beat him by plenty, which is all the 3rd base coach can go by...is the ball likely to beat him). He was beaten by so much that even if the ball had taken quite a bit longer to get there, Counsell would have been out (or beaten by the ball).
  5. He has also done the opposite, though maybe not as often. I know he had a ridiculous hold of Corey Hart one time that ended up probably costing a game. I seem to remember one onther questionable hold and there are probably more I didn't see or don't remember.
  6. I understand that offer was made, but Prince refused it, he doesn't eat meat. On the Parra incident, I happened to run across a wikipedia entry claiming that Parra told Fielder to "get off his fat ass and play defense." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Fielder Maybe we can thank Parra for Fielder's improvement in that area.
  7. How can $1 per ticket possibly be enough to fund the ball park, anyway? After-all it costs the team $2 per ticket just for me to print my tickets at home, based on the fee for that, which is most certainly based on their actual costs, right? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Pick him up and maybe he beconmes the 2010 Brewers closer?
  9. I'd have to agree that appears to be the case. C'mon, running through the stadium underbelly to try to get to the opposing team's clubhouse and Mota, that is just over the top. Amazing that some think this is no big deal. One wonders if they would feel the same were it Pujols running around under Miller Park to try to get to the Brewers clubhouse and McClung. If he wanted a piece of Mota, he should have charged the mound, right away. This planned premeditated assault on the clubhouse is much worse than going after a guy in the heat of the moment.
  10. user fees don't generally cover the full cost. They don't for the zoo, museum, parks or whatever, there's also taxpayer funding. yes, and I assume there has also been taxpayer funding related to the Packers and Bucks...but it is only the Brewers and Miller Park that seem to generate the level of outrage that they do. I live in Waukesha County
  11. Thanks, the condescension is appreciated. I'd say Braun (due to his contract) is not tradeable and neither is Yo. Fielder, may be as he does not have a long term contract and if the team feels that he is a time bomb, due to this latest incident. The guy who is hurt the most by this is probably Braun, when other teams want to plunk someone the pitcher may think: "I'm gonna stay away from that Fielder guy, he is nuts, who knows what he might do, he scares me...I'll just hit that Braun" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. I think the bigger problem is a large percentage of stunningly inadequate parents, a problem that will not be fixed by raising teacher salaries or throwing money at schools in other ways. Though, I am all for raises, since my wife is a teacher http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'd like to see the user fee concept applied to higher education. Let the UW system students, who are the primary benficiaries of the massive amount of tax revenue directed there, pay the full cost of their own educations (via loans, allowing them to pay this cost over the rest of their lives, would be fine). Anyway, this whole thing from Lehman is probably just fodder for the masses, designed to bolster the guy's reelection campaign in Racine, where many will ever get over their outrage over the 0.1% and will vote for whoever demonstrates the most hate of the Brewers/Miller Park/0.1%. I understand principles, but give me a break, we are talking about probably $20-50 per year for the average person/family...is there really nothing more significant in terms of government taxing/spending that people can find to be outraged over.
  13. That's fine. The point is that for the right offer, he should be considered tradeable.
  14. Philosophically I am opposed to taxpayer support of sports (and other businesses, as well). However, the unfortunate reality is that since everyone else does it, Milwaukee is stuck with doing this or there would be no team or it would be a perpetually non-competitive team. It is ridiculous that this is the system, but it is. If every team had to pay for their facility and say it averaged $40 million per year to cover the cost, this could simply mean that player payrolls woud have to be lower. Instead of the 25 guys on the typical major league roster earning an average of, say, $3 million per year they'd somehow have to make do with $1.5 million.
  15. It is a lousy 0.1%, who cares if it has to continue beyond 2014. The amount of angst fronm some in the area over this tiny sales tax increment has always amazed me.
  16. So what part of that leads to the conclusion that he was not prepared to administer a beat down to Mota. Parra hit him with a towel and he was ready to beat him up, Mota hit him with a baseball...why should I not think that he was prepared to chase him down in the clubhouse and beat him up? As for trading him, is there really no pitcher that would be good enough to give up a couple years of Fielder to obtain?
  17. You seem to be whitewashing this, he at least attempted to beat Parra up. There certainly was some physical interaction, it was more than "approaching" and and talking to him.
  18. It's like Kendall said...make your choice go to the mound or go to first base.
  19. What Fielder did is probably deserving of about the same punishment as whatever Mota gets. Also, the Brewer's had a pitcher who also had an obviously intentional HBP in Pittsburgh, what happened in that case?
  20. Because it would encourage other idiots to run on the field.
  21. If the right opportunity arises, I would hope Melvin would trade any position player on the current major league roster, other than Braun, for pitching. There should be a much lower threshold for a trade to be "the right opportunity", if the player we are trading is McGehee than if it is Fielder, but no one besides Braun should be designated as off limits.
  22. Why do we need two back-up outfielders? I think they'd probably be better off carrying an extra pitcher, except they probably don't have any one that would be a better option than just having Hall pitch. Maybe it's time for them to give Brooks Kieshnick a call. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. Other than Braun, they should pretty much trade whichever one to maybe three position players will get them the best pitching that they can get. This means that the decision on who to trade will be partly up to the team that is willing to trade away some pitching. If it takes Fielder to get a legitimate #1 starter, then they should probably take the chance that the pitching gain will outweigh the loss of offense. They can't expect to accomplish an improvement in pitching by packaging up a bunch of guys who have been mediocre or poor performers.
  24. If we had traded Hart and or Hardy before this season we wouldnt be in this position. There seems to be almost an emotional attachment to this group of players that includes those two and it seems to go all the way to Mark A. While it is real sweet that these guys all played together through the minors and all came up together, this is not little league and if good pitching (which everyone knew we were short of) was available for one of those guys, it was a big mistake to not go for it.
