  1. Actually, not having a DH is a better way to ensure more players getting an AB. Without a DH there will likely be a different hitter batting every time the pitcher's spot comes up, with a DH you might see the same guy get 2-3 ABs as DH. Are you DH fans under the mistaken impression that pitchers get a lot of ABs in an all-star game? Typically they never bat because they are not going to pitch for more than 1-2 innings and there is a huge bench full of players that can pinch hit for them.
  2. Radar shows the edge of the rain just about at the center of Cincinnati, but it seems to be moving very slowly. http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=ILN&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=yes
  3. The internet is telling me the preview goes to 7/22. Seems to be an annual thing to have 2, one for the first week of the season and the second for a week after the ASB.
  4. I just meant, due to the free preview, I can watch other games while the Brewers are delayed.
  5. Rain delays are much less annoying during the MLB extra innnings free preview http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. The only thing I can figure is he thinks it is "too early" to pinch hit with a short bench. With no Braun and the unwillingness to use the other catcher there are only 3 pinch hitters available. But, yeah, I think a pinch hitter was called for there.
  7. I seem to recall that the home team wins about 54% vs. 46% on the road. So in a 7 game series the team with HFA would be expected to win 3.54 games vs. 3.46 for the other team, so that is only a 2.3% difference. In a 6 game or 4 game series it should not matter at all. In a 5 game series the advantage goes to the other team with 2.54 expected wins vs. 2.46...a 3.3% difference the other way. But, of course, the odds of one team winning 4 of 5 are pretty small. I don't know how you figure out the probablility of winning 4 games, but I think the difference that having 4 vs. 3 at home would be pretty small.
  8. Yes, I am not much of a football fan but I still typically will spend the 24 hours of time that is required to watch every Packer regular season game (if they do not conflict with baseball watching). It also takes more of a commitment to actually attend games, rather than just turning on the TV. The Brewers will again draw nearly 3 million. The Packers will never approach that attendance figure...I know it is impossible for them to do so, but it is still impressive that with the entire state having about 5 million people, there will be nearly 3 million trips to the ballpark amongst them. In addition there seem to be more Brewer fans at their road games these days. The last game I attended was a 6 pm monday night start. With it being Monday and the early start time, I was expecting they'd get maybe 35,000, but the actual attendance was over 40,000.
  9. If anything there should be no DH all the timefor the all star game. They have 36 players on the rosters for these games. The NL had 14 pitchers and the AL 12. Why in the world have a DH. Without it the pitchers are going to be pinch hit for just about every time they come up as happened in this year's game. Of course, I'd be in favor of no DH in MLB at all.
  10. Yes, it has been amazing to see. It was all football all the time until quite recently here. I always thought and said this just is not a baseball town. (I moved here in 1985, but only resumed following baseball about 1993. Someone here (maybe it was even you) once told me years ago that I was wrong and just wait and see what happens if the Brewers start winning . My wife teaches first grade and she has certainly seen a shift toward baseball and the Brewers amongst her students.
  11. That is because he read all the complaints on brewerfan about Kendall leading off and Gamel not playing http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Thanks for the advice, but I'll stick with being mad at the ump, until I see that this is going to now suddenly be consistently called whenever a player trys to break up a double play. That idiot "by the book" ump decided to give the Brewers two outs in that inning over a routine late slide into second base on a non-double play ball. I would also question whether one can intend to break up an event that is not going to occur.
  13. Here's the rule: If, in the judgment of the umpire, a base runner willfully and deliberately interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball with the obvious intent to break up a double play, the ball is dead. The umpire shall call the runner out for interference and also call out the batter-runner because of the action of his teammate. In no event may bases be run or runs scored because of such action by a runner. It was a BS call, #1 there was not going to be a DP, #2 that call is never made when a runner slides...even when he slides late.
  14. Sure you can, they were not getting a DP anyway, so what did Cameron interfere with?
  15. I think like his recent comments, his comments about the shadows could be seen by some as whining and complaining. The taxpayers built a $500 million (or whatever) playground for these guys and Braun does not find it just perfect, so he spouts off to the media. The Brewers are spending $80 million on player salaries, but everything is not perfect, so Braun spouts off with more whining and complaining to the media.
  16. but Yost was hands down better at...helping young players develop...Though I admit to thinking player development should not be part of a major league manager's job on a playoff caliber team. Doesn't that mean that it was time to move on and this is why Macha is a better manager for the team that we have now? Currently, I care far less about the development of the precious Gamel than about the team doing whatever gives them the best chance to win (without giving away the future). If Gamel is the best choice to fill that spot on the roster then he should stay in the majors. If playing McGehee nearly every day at third base and Counsell at 2nd currently appears to give them the best chance to win, then that is what should be done. If they fall apart, there will likely be plenty of time to give lots of starts to Gamel. There are also fall and winter leagues that he can be sent to, I assume.
  17. Hey, thanks for posting that...great info for possible future use. I would never have thought of looking on the team's site for a deal like that and I certainly would not have figured on finding this option for parking under the "public transportation" category.
  18. Reactions: DM - now looking to trade Braun for a #1 starter McClung - wants to pitch batting practice Burns - wants to watch Braun take BP, with McClung on the mound http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. I don't suppose anyone knows why the WGN broadcast isn't blacked out on TWC in the Milwaukee area, like it usually is?
  20. But there is a big difference in the rationality of the fans. I don't think anyone here has claimed Braun is any more than average defensively, while cub fans reportedly think Soriano is a great defender.
  21. Unless you're the Cubs and score one and have one given to you by the umpire, I guess.
  22. and it also has it in almost the identical spot to strike 2..more of a strike than strike 2, if anything.
  23. ridiculous give them the game on strike 3...nice job ump
  24. Yes, but because of the unbendable rules of closer use they have to put Gregg in. Thanks Milton...did that hit him in the face?
