  1. How can you argue against PEM and his "three ifs" while trotting out a whole bunch of "ifs" of your own? Counting on a bunch of things going right is part of what put the Brewers in their current predicament. The pitching staff is NOT good enough right now. Can you honestly tell me otherwise? We are looking to win a championship, and a playoff rotation of Yo, Wolf, and (Davis, Bush, Narvy, etc) is a joke. Say Braun and Prince do come back better next year. Who's to say Yo won't get injured, or other guys production won't bottom out. We need to put together the best team we can, the best organization we can. Sure, we could add a couple more over-priced FA additions and hope everything falls into place. The likely outcome of that scenario is: 1) we get low-balled on Corey and Prince and make less than stellar deals, or 2) we keep them and get "comp" picks (maybe) while all the while burning money and roster spots on guys we'll wish we hadn't signed in the first place. If we continue to build the team around FA, particularly pitching, I think we'll run this organization right back into the ground. Trading Corey and Prince for prospects is a gamble, but it's a better one than trying to do a last minute rental deal, or letting them walk at the end of the year. At least we have some control here.
  2. I vote "no" on moving Rickie to the outfield. Rickie and the team have expressed no desire to do this, likely for good reason. Plus, his premium offensive numbers would be far more pedestrian in a corner outfield spot.
  3. Agreed Monty. I would be all for trading Hart for any of the above pitchers. I have to admit not knowing anything about Moore or Sweeney. By MLB ready, low-ceiling guys, I mean guys more like J. Sanchez. We don't need guys who aren't clear upgrades to what we have now, or guys with little service time remaining.
  4. I agree with TC07 completely on hoarding young, high-ceiling pitching. This is the way the wind is blowing in baseball now. If you have pitching, particularly young, cost-controlled pitching, it can be traded for the other things. Also, hitters are more readily available and affordable on the FA market. And I can't see why anyone would want us to trade for more low-ceiling MLB ready guys. A rotation made up of Yovani and four Dave Bushs doesn't win championships. And isn't that what this is all about? Who cares if we win 70 games versus 80? Either way, someone else is popping the champagne in October.
  5. I hope the Giants say no to Sanchez. I don't want him. Also, I think it's funny to have these two lumped together. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Bumgarner would have vastly more appeal.
  6. Position and money aside, you cannot convince me that Corey Hart is more valuable than Prince. Sure his defense negates his value, he will cost a ton, and could decline early due to his body. But Prince is a special hitter, and not just for power. After his "bad" half season, he is still almost OPSing .900. And last season I believe he and Pujols were the only guys to OPS over 1 for the season. Even a bad year for Prince is probably .875 or higher OPS and 30 homers. Are you telling me we won't be able to find a suitor, particularly from an A.L. team between now and next season? So we don't get a Tex-type haul. Prince has got to be worth AT LEAST one top-tier pitching prospect with little service time and a few next tier prospects. Plus, even if we trade Prince and he walks after next year, that team gets Type A compensation. It's not like Corey isn't a defensive liability. To argue that Hart is more valuable than Prince is crazy. I'm not buying, and you shouldn't be selling, J.B.
  7. They will get more than what we got in the Richie Sexson deal. Part of the reason we got that return, imo, is that our team had countless holes to fill and need quantity as much as quality. I agree that the Brewers wouldn't want to take that kind of deal, JB, but I think you are still undervaluing what Fielder is worth. If Hart is possibly worth Davis, isn't Fielder worth a good deal more?
  8. Skip Loney. Why would you want to water down the return on any of our guys for a player like that? We are going nowhere this season, and could easily find a new first baseman either from within or on the FA market next year. Pitching, pitching, and more pitching is what I would want for any of our guys.
  9. Can't understand the desire to keep Dave Bush around. Our shot at the postseason is practically non-existant, and DB is not part of the future. Get the best you can for him, and ship him out.
  10. 5-9...At least for a few more hours...Hopefully Manny pitches well today...
  11. I agree with Corbeau. Are the Brewers really in the position to lose a prospect like JJ if he breaks down and sparks a j? So what if you don't like it? This is big business here, and Oeltjen can be easily be replaced without hurting the Brewers, while losing JJ would be huge.
  12. Sounded to me like he was speaking more as a fan than employee. I think it's understandable, especially from a younger kid. Not like this pierogi thing was a career, either. Seems like the kind of thing that could be resolved without termination.
  13. Those wins may actually hurt the Brewers a bit when it comes to draft order next year. I'm not saying I want to lose 90 games, but a top ten pick would be nice if we are stinking up the joint anyway.
  14. If the Brewers were to trade Gallardo or Braun now, I'd have to seriously consider supporting another team.
  15. There have been plenty of opportunities to jettison Suppan, where that would have been the most logical move, but the Brewers have resisted it. I think people have the right to question the Brewers' handling of the roster due to the Soup situation.
  16. Yeah...MLB might actually set the precedent of getting calls right. This isn't about 20 years ago or even last year. This is about a completely fixable situation that just happened that needs to bring about change in baseball. I think that the "human error is part of the game" talk is a joke. Why do players wear batting helmets? People resisted that too, but it was still a good idea. Just because something has always been done a certain way doesn't mean that's the best way to do it.
  17. Please do not act like he is not in the records books, alought that is technically true How many perfect games have there been where luck isn't a factor? Galarraga is no less deserving than anyone else who has recorded a perfect game. Sure everyone is talking about this now, but eventually it will be forgotten. As someone too young to remember the Milt Pappas or '86 Series examples, I am completely unaware of the situations unless someone tells me. On the other hand, I can go to the record books and see that Don Larsen or David Cone threw perfect games. All Selig has to do is say, "We blew it, but we are going to make it right," and use this as impetus to institute some form of replay. But he wont, because for as many good things he's brought (interleague, wild card) Bud has just as many flubs. (Milwaukee All-Star Game, Steroids, etc)
  18. Who are the good players we have been trading at their peak for prospects? This is exactly what we are not doing.
  19. Leave it to baseball to not fix a call that is perfectly fixable and EVERYONE knows is incorrect. What a joke! For all the "purists" out there, I want to know how it's right to keep a guy out of the record books that obviously belongs. Stats and records are such a big part of baseball, but we are going to deny this kid his proper place in history because Bud is clinging to the old ways. Baseball needs to get with the times.
  20. Whoever said that people around here don't ever want to "sell high" on hot players seems to be right. The Brewers are going nowhere this season. Is Corey a part of the long-term future? I agree that we trade him if we can get a good prospect or two.
  21. TLB, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said West escalated, or instigated the whole thing. I feel like that is the major problem, and umpires that do that should be fined or suspended the same as a player would be in the opposite situation.
