  1. In Kow I trust.
  2. Wow is that brutal....not even a full season in. Can't even imagine their disappointment.
  3. maybe i should sell my set for $500. i would throw shipping in for free. :P
  4. Right or wrong, that pursuit has lost much of its appeal since we got suckered into McGwire/Sosa chasing 61.
  5. Yeah, if you take him at his word on his use of PEDs, [blue] which we have no reason not to [/blue].
  6. Agreed that I wouldn't want Jackson. Wondering, though, with the glut of pitchers we have now, why haven't we moved a guy like Bush, Hoffman, etc, to clear up the roster if nothing else. Those guys aren't coming back next year. Why are we hanging on to them? If it's to finish 3rd instead of 4th, color me displeased.
  7. The Brewers seem to be a mess right now. Hope the offseason proves me wrong, but there is no evidence of a plan that I can see. Unless of course, treading water and finishing consistently at or below .500 while squandering the prime years of our talented guys is the plan. There is evidence of that.
  8. What about the Smoak for Lee deal?
  9. Regardless of whether Haren would've accepted a trade to Milwaukee, the trade the D-Backs made appears to be a bad one. In my mind, if that was the best offer, then Haren should've stayed put. As was noted, they don't even figure to save that much money. These are the kind of moves the Brewers used to make. It's too bad that Ricky Bones wasn't available, or maybe the Angels could've kept Skaggs too.
  10. They didn't really save that much, though, did they? Saunders is getting expensive, particularly for what he is. If you are going into rebuild mode, you don't water down the return by trading for low ceiling guys with rising costs. D-Backs = FAIL
  11. If I were a D-Backs fan, I'd be getting out the torches and pitchforks about now.
  12. Agreed. Sometimes you wonder what the heck happened with trades like this. Not knowing much about the players in question, this package seems like one we could have surpassed without hurting our MiLB depth too much. Going off topic, it reminds me a bit of trades like the one that sent Pau Gasol to the Lakers, where as a fan you can't help but wish your team would've had the good fortune to be the one doing the fleecing.
  13. Maybe. Or maybe it reflects the organization's philosophy of taking hitters first and trying to force those players into more premium positions than they are capable of fielding.
  14. Never said that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. I agree with end. Fielder should be better over the life of his contract than Howard is for his. I like that in Fielder's "down year" he is still OPSing over .900. Toss out the RBIs...I don't think you can downplay the significance of a slugger's ability to reach base. Even when Prince was going bad, he was still getting on base almost 40% of the time. When a guy like that is on, he can OPS over 1, and how many players like that are there in the game?
  16. Not sure how anyone can really have a beef with Sheets. He pitched exceptionally for some bad Brewers teams. Injuries like these are often what separate guys like Sheets from the best pitchers. Doesn't mean he wasn't great at times, or that he didn't do his best. Was a beast when healthy, and a he was a true joy to watch pitch. Man, do I miss those two hour shutouts! Like many here, I hope this isn't as bad as it seems and that Sheets can be an effective MLB pitcher again.
  17. Does that account for the times where he attempts to bunt for a hit, accumulates two strikes, and then proceeds to strike out?
  18. DHonks, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying that "with his speed he should be hitting the ball on the ground and legging them out?" Maybe if we institute the push-up per fly ball punishment, Gomez will be a little more Mays and a little less Hayes. :P
  19. Which guys don't have upside? I mean, I'm not crazy about J. Sanchez, but virtually every other pitcher mentioned has been an upside guy. Minor, Moore, Wade Davis....What's not to like here? These are obviously just rumors, but if you're the Brewers and the rumors are true, I don't see any way you can justify Hart back in Milwaukee next season.
  20. Maybe the light has turned on for Hart, but is that a risk worth taking? He will be expensive next season, and in his FA year. The only way I would keep him is if no one was willing to deal us young, cost-controlled pitching with a #3 upside or better.
  21. What would TB want with Bush? He's more expensive and worse than what they already have.
  22. X ellence, it's not like pm doesn't have a legitimate point about you hijacking this thread. He's not the only one who doesn't want to read about Carlos Gomez' defense in every thread. I do agree with you that Fielder would be great as a DH down there, and would help the team in the ways that you've mentioned. On the other hand, he would be costly in terms of prospects and money, and TB is reportedly interested in cutting payroll. So, I don't think we can call them foolish for not pursuing Fielder. In fact, I wish the Brewers would take a cue from how they've built a team.
  23. Can someone please start a thread about this somewhere else? I am sick of reading about Carlos Gomez.
  24. Boy, this thread makes me wish we had traded Sheets instead of letting him walk. (Though there was no way to predict the comp pick fiasco)
