  1. Two related questions. With a lot of younger prospects were the Brewers able to get more development bang for their buck out of not having a normal season? Do we think the development of a number of these younger players with tools will improve the relative ranking of the system?
  2. I agree about not trying to feed him wins intentionally. I'd say for my notion to make sense he'd have to end up with a 'peak' where he is at 60 wins by the end of his age 34 season, and then he hangs around until 40 or 41 in more of the quasi specialist role and averaging about 6 wins a season. Something as simple as Ashby coming up and taking on more of that long man role the rest of the season could really impact that type of scenario.
  3. Mostly because this is just something fun to toy around with that is different, but closers don't typically seem to pick up enough wins. Hoffman finished with 61 wins, Rivera had 82. Jesse Orrosco also fell short at 87, but Loogy's also aren't well suited to getting wins. The old school stoppers though seemed to break the mark often enough. Hoyt Wilhelm had 143, Gossage had 124, and Fingers had 118. Suter isn't anywhere near the pitcher those 3 were, but they had the most similar usage pattern I could think of. Some starts here and there multi-innings. With shorter starts by starters in general there are more wins floating around for middle relievers to steal. I'd be curious if anyone else had ideas on historical comps that might be relevant.
  4. No question making the Adames trade was huge. I loved the fact that they didn't wait around till June or July either.
  5. I don't think it is particularly likely, but even without LOOGY roles lefties can hang around, on the other hand even if his new roles is better at sneaking wins than other relief type roles traditionally it would take quite a bit of luck along the way.
  6. What about Suter? He's sitting at 25 already with 6 wins already on the season. This role he has found himself in might be quite the niche to keep hanging around and stealing wins as a lefty.
  7. I agree that Taylor is going to be around awhile. He has shown he can handle the more irregular life of a bench player, which gives him at the worst a chance to stick around for quite awhile as a pretty competent 4th OFer
  8. I'm going to take credit because I actually swept the floor in the 5th inning.
  9. You should be including tax implications in thinking about your break even point. With the changes a couple of years ago most people no longer have a big enough mortgage to get any tax benefits from the mortgage payment, but your savings on paying off early are completely tax free. The tax situation on your investment is hard to say without more details. You also increase your closing costs on the refinance (in most cases) by taking more money out as the origination fee is usually a flat percentage of the total loan. I would guesstimate that your true break even point is probably closer to 4%, still pretty doable
  10. Even more impressive with 2 doubleheader sweeps in that perfect day.
  11. I don't know who the emergency catcher is, but I wouldn't have complained if CC had pinch run for Narvez on 3rd. Or nevermind
  12. Yes I meant Maurice, my goodness. I used to be really good at names when I started teaching.
  13. They are one of my more favorite historical nuggets you can think about the next time you are grabbing $0.99 eggs at Kwik Trip is that this is only possible because of a vaccine, and the same scientist who developed that vaccine led the development of most of the commonly used childhood vaccines today, David Hilleman. The 1918 flu epidemic had a significant impact on his life.
  14. Oddly enough after the lines some of the guys put up last night, I found myself wondering how slow must they have started this early in the season that there season numbers were still so low.
  15. Aside from the small sample size with Erceg he is batting down a level which also might go a long way to explaining relative success. Still hopeful he can develop as a reliever and fit into the hits well for a pitcher category.
  16. I'll jump in by questioning to what extent DI athletics presents an opportunity for anyone? In my 4 years at Madison I had class with 2 athletes. One of those was on the spirit squad for Men's BB. The time commitment to competing at the level causes real trade-offs in what those students can do in terms of majors. As college has become more common place I have substantial doubts that those scholarships are actually getting kids to college who wouldn't otherwise. Maybe in the high profile revenue sports (and the economic incentive of being a pro-athlete), outside of that though I struggle to see why most students wouldn't be better off with club level sports and time commitments. This is reinforced by my sons experience at the DIII level where the time commitment was still quite extensive, to the point it also tends to force students only to socializing in those groups. Put another way is there a sport not currently being offered to girls at UW that would even open up scholarship chances for disadvantaged populations as opposed to random sports? My daughter is looking at other colleges since UW doesn't offer her area of interest, but scholarships for her activity of choice would not address any kind of imbalance I can see.
  17. My 12-15 got their first shot Sunday, no reaction just normal pain after a shot.
