  1. Again, the team’s record now isn’t really the issue. It’s how the team is playing. They have a lot of holes right now, more than last year. Management didn’t make the team better than last year, and I don’t believe they will do better than last year. We will have to wait and see how it really plays out, but if they don’t make the playoffs or don’t get far, people will be upset that management didn’t make moves to improve the team.
  2. I gave up to listening to Joe Morgan right after the Brewers signed Dave’s Lopes. He said something along the lines of “It’s great that a team hired another minority manager, but it’s too bad it’s on a team like the Brewers.” Now the Brewers were terrible at the time, but it really rubbed me the wrong way so he’s been dead to me since. 4. That may be so, but last year was the first time the Brewers had a chance to get to the World Series in 36 years. Instead of improving the team, many would see that they have regressed. They are in a unique spot, with Yelich being as amazing as he is. They only have him for a guaranteed couple more years, so their window is likely short, and they could have made moves to strengthen the team. They did not. The 2019 team is not as good as the 2018 team, and that’s the major failure.
  5. To me the record doesn't matter. Yes, I'm happy they are in the thick of it, but do I feel this team has a realistic chance to win the World Series without significant changes (either with current personnel doing a complete 180 or by making personnel changes altogether)? No way. This team has the feel that they could stick it out and maybe get to the postseason, but I don't see them beating beating two teams (and maybe not one) to get to the World Series. With where we were at last year, I would have rather them made the push for 2019 to be the year (which is what the Moustakas and Grandal signings would tend to indicate), but the shift to 60% of the starting rotation to unproven starters does not go along with the all-in mentality. And since we let our best veteran starter go for almost nothing, now we are left with a lackluster starting rotation. The mention of the Brewers past inability to produce more than a few starting pitchers from the farm didn't imply that the new regime cannot do so, but instead was to demonstrate that it is very difficult. So to think that we'd have three legitimate starters that were ready for 2019 was poor judgement in my opinion (and that was my opinion before the season started... not saying I could do a better job, but I had the feeling with this one that we'd be hurting for starting pitching). They may be ready in a year or two, so hopefully we can have another push before Yelich is a free agent. The Brewers either needed to make 2019 a "go forward with our young talent" and save money approach, or go all-in and spend. They did some of each and now our team either looks pretty good, or looks like the 2002 Brewers depending on the day.
  6. Here’s as optimistic as I get: At least I’ll save a ton of money not having to buy postseason tickets this year.
  7. With the lack of homegrown talent in the past, especially with starting pitching, it was amazing that they thought they somehow happened to now have developed three starters in one season. That may go down as one of the biggest blunders in franchise history, when this window has been one of the best in franchise history and now this season is looking like a major failure.
  8. The problem with the three rookie starters approach is that you had to get rid of veterans that did well for you last year to see the results. If the thought was that if any of the rookies struggle, then someone else could move into their spot, who would go there? You let Miley go (who was arguably our best starter last year) and Gio go (who, while not as good as Miley, helped us big in the short time before the postseason). Sure, we found one good starter in Woodruff with this approach, but now our rotation is in shambles. This is why this approach cannot be in all-in approach, unless you get lucky and all three would have been good.
  9. At this point you might as well put Burnes and Peralta back in the starting rotation. If you are going to lose anyway you might as well give them their shot. That was the plan at the beginning of the year anyway.
  10. I know it’s a bit extreme, but really why even have Yelich on this team? This season is almost a lost cause and there isn’t much of a core to build around. The other best hitters on this team will be demanding big contracts and will likely be free agents. If we aren’t going to really contend within the next year then it’s probably worth collecting a king’s ransom for Yelich and hope we’ll be competitive in 4 or 5 years. And yes, this is a serious thought.
  11. They're not good, but it's pretty much all the same dudes from last year. Wade Miley would sure look good now. I questioned letting him go at the time and now I’m just mad about it.
  12. Our core to build off of at this point is Yelich, Gamel, Woodruff, and Hader. That’s really about it.
  13. This team is just awful right now, and at a time where they need to be dominating. Need a major shakeup at this point.
  14. LOL ... how long have you actually been a Brewer fan? Calling this team not good is an insult to the Selig-Preib years of futility. It’s all about expectations, or lack thereof back in the early 2000s. There were high expectations after last year, and this team is not as good as last year’s team.
  15. Maybe Yelich will hit another solo home run in the 9th to give us some hope even though we’ll lose.
  16. I just don’t get this constant need to police how people react to games. It’s not just you doing it, it happens all the time here when people post negative thoughts about the terrible baseball they’re watching. You do realize this is still a 1st place team, right? Read these IGTs and you'd think we're watching the Orioles. It gets grating after awhile. I know, I know ... just ignore it. A first place team that is scuffling, and against teams they shouldn’t. These games are the ones that bite you later on.
  17. Opponents might as well bring any pitcher from any level in the minors to make their MLB debut against the Brewers. Guaranteed dominating performance.
  18. These high and outside pitches being called strikes are annoying. He’s a lefty so the ball is not crossing the plate at all.
  19. Considering the extra difficulties with only batting every 5 games, Woodruff must be one of best hitters in baseball.
  20. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tatis Jr. hit one out here. His old man used to kill us.
  21. The unfortunate thing is that with the Cubs and Cardinals struggling, these games are great opportunities to pull away. The Brewers need that as their normal All-Star break slide is just around the corner. Not having a large lead will put us in the hole at that point.
  22. Braun is hitting around .270. In an era where superstars hit under .250, he’s still doing well. His bat is the least of our worries.
