  1. I read that posting earlier this morning....I had to clean my laptop screen afterward - coffee somehow wound up all over it. edit--pared back the quoting. pitchleague
  2. Or Bobby Hill! Because he dives on routine plays.Just like the Marlin defenders - they make the ordinary look spectacular. That's in stark contrast to Cameron who makes 90% of his stuff look simply routine. Anyone see that catch he made (I think 8th inning) where he was turned around a few times while going straight back? Good stuff......
  3. There's no doubt that Julio struggled last night and I doubt you'll find anyone that disagrees with you. What I've read indicated that Julio had trouble gripping the baseball - bad excuse? Maybe. But as you noted, Julio is prone to lose control at any time. In any case - was Julio's struggles due to having a bad outing at a crucial time or was it because he was finally placed into a high-pressure situation? Granted the defense didn't help him out, but the entire bases-loaded situation was caused by himself. All we know is that last night's outing caused Macha to completely lose faith in Julio and led to his release. But it was interesting that the Brewer bullpen phone just happened to stop functioning when Julio came in the game...hey?
  4. I'd only imagine your surprise if they'd eat Hall's contract!
  5. Completely agreed on the underlined point, I think it's a waste of a roster spot if you have an arm in the bullpen that can only be used in blow-out situations. I don't think Macha was really punting the game, though. Julio did have effective outings recently and he was probably hoping to (1) spare a few arms for later in the series while (2) hoping Julio could continue his string of good outings. The factor that makes Julio's last three outings different from last night is the fact they were not high pressure situations. The Brewers were at least four runs ahead in his last three appearances.
  6. I think Macha didn't want Coffey or Villy to go more than one inning to ensure they'd be available today and, possibly, tomorrow - the same reason Macha (probably) didn't really want to use McClung. The "quick hook" was somewhat squashed by the fact the bullpen phone wasn't working and it took a minute or two to get the proper hand signals out to the pen. Now, could last night have been deemed an "emergency" enough to use McClung anyway in the 6th? One could argue that. But if last night was the final straw on Julio, then something "positive" may have come out of that situation. It always bothered me that Julio was only used when the game was out of hand - and having a pitcher like that on the roster came back to bite Macha in a bad way last night.
  7. Don't forget about the fees when you use the "print at home" option....
  8. WSSP is confirming only that Hardy has a dislocated thumb, it's right on their homepage.
