  1. Haudricourt's father passed - I didn't see this posted anywhere else.... http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/timesdispatch/obituary.aspx?n=george-j-haudricourt&pid=149383485&fhid=4651 Unfortunately, it's not good news.
  2. Well..I hope Bush gets the same inside call as Halladay got there....
  3. I'm not sure why he felt the need to dive at Cairo when running right at the base would have been better....
  4. I have a 4-pack of seats in 234 and went to a game with a 12:10 start. The sun hit my seats just before 1st pitch and, even though the game went extras, the seats were sun-drenched all game long. I had seven bottles of water on me - never had an issue the entire game and got a nice tan, too.
  5. I think it's more about catching lightning in a bottle than believing Mulder will impact the Crew in 2010.
  6. ESPN highlighted it on SportsCenter, but I've poked around other sites that have game highlights and they all pull away before Holliday throws the helmet.
  7. They took the link down to that highlight spot. I'll keep looking. Edit: Checked three different sites (and Google), nobody has the video anymore.
  8. I wonder if anyone in St. Louis has anything about this display from Matt Holliday: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4491028&categoryid=2521705 Sorry about the promo you'll have to watch, but when the game highlights start, at 50 seconds in you'll see Matt Holliday throw his helmet at the umps.
  9. Because Duke is available to pitch. A pitcher isn't going to be named strictly on merits, that player HAS to be able to play....
  10. Agreed - it's pretty sad that the only reason a pitcher can be considered to be an all-star is because they can pitch in the game, merits are taken out of the equation...somewhat.
  11. Below is a link that breaks GIDPs down, in more detail, by Baseball-Reference. There's a whole set of columns dedicated to GIDP. The left column in there is "GIDP opportunities" - which is a runner on 1st and less than two outs. The Brewers have the 3rd most "opportunities in the NL. The middle column is how many DPs the Brewers have grounded into, again, they're 3rd (most) in NL with 78. The right-hand column is the % of times they've grounded into a DP, given an opportunity. The Brewers are right on the league average of 11%. Now, they don't use tenths of percent, so I'm not sure if they're rounding or not. Here's the link, which has the stats for all the teams in the NL: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2009-situational-batting.shtml Below the stats for all the teams, you can sort and see how the players, themselves, are doing too....
  12. How did losing Yuni change that? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Addition by subtraction?
  13. From what I saw last night on MLB Network, the trade was made because the Mets wanted a RH OF bat, plus Minaya salivated over Francouer's defense. Mitch Williams was hilarious last night ripping Minaya for this trade....
  14. Eddie Mathews: 1953 Milwaukee Braves was also included.
  15. Actually, I believe it was Haudricourt who asked the question to Braun. I think he addressed that while on with the Milwaukee ESPN station for his daily segments. Haudricourt wrote the blog piece regarding Braun's statements, too.
  16. Charlie Manuel said early on that he would not select a pitcher that couldn't pitch in the AS game. Gallardo is currently slated to pitch next Sunday against the Dodgers, which probably kept him out.
  17. It's funny that article doesn't say anything to the tune of ..."and with every strikeout, we're reminded how he ISN'T his father." He's struck out 22 times in 112 ABs, already more than Sr. did in eight of his full seasons. To his credit, Jr's walk rate is a bit better than it was in Milwaukee.
  18. Maybe he was just confused by two phenomena occurring at once: 1. The sound of a ball going off the sweet spot of the bat. 2. The sight of the ball traveling up in the air and flying toward the outfield at a much more rapid rate than usual.
  19. mlbtraderumors Wow- @Eric_Arnett just scooped his own signing.
  20. He also took a bad route to the ball. They replayed Gamel's second hit (the "blooper") and showed McClouth running straight toward left-center, then breaking in when he was half-way there. I'm in complete agreement that Cameron, most likely, gets to that baseball.
  21. My first thought when I read that: The Brett Favre of baseball. He's, now, hinted at retirement. The question is - does the media care enough to question him about it?
  22. If he pitches enough, that is.....
  23. Reading that, you'd think no team has blown a lead of 8 runs or more this year....oh, wait.......
