  1. why bunt? I can't agree with that.
  2. I'm sure after the game Yost is going to say that he didn't want to waste a pinch hitter just to bunt, but he didn't even need to use a pinch hitter to bunt. He could have used Obermueller or whoever else is the best bunting pitcher they have. I'm sure almost all of them can handle a bat better than Sheets. I really wouldn't have bunted there, but at least find someone besides Sheets to do it.
  3. definitely a poor decision to have sheets bunt, especially after he botched earlier in the game. Worst decision of all time?? C'mon, now.... I think some fans in Boston would point to a game seven decsion from last year's playoffs...
  4. terrible at bat by clark to end the game. please stop playing that guy.
  5. I was just about to ask the same thing about Grieve. This is the third time in the last four games he hasn't started against a righthander.
  6. well, they took another HS player with their second pick of the first round so it looks like someone has changed his mind.
  7. Don't you think it's possible that Brooks and Ned have actually talked about this stuff and Brooks has said he feels more comfortable on the mound directly out of the bullpen instead of going to the hitting mindset and then back to the pitching mindset? Just asking because that would be my first assumption since this wasn't the first time he was used like this.
  8. Anyone worried about Pods should check out the threads from last July when he hit .248/.307/.299 for the month and people were freaking out. He promptly went on to hit .364/.414/.542 in August and no one cared much about his slump in July. It's a long season, slumps happen.
  9. Gee, and here I thought the goal was to score more runs than the opponent. Did they change the rules on me? I'm just kidding you, but my point is that they are already scoring enough runs to win if they had a halfway decent bullpen to hold a lead. In my opinion, they'd improve much more by figuring out a way to upgrade the bullpen than playing Hall over Counsell. Scoring runs is only half the equation, and they are doing that successfully. Ben Ford has given up 37 runs in 39 major league innings. I don't care how bad Counsell is batting, having Ben Ford in the bullpen seems like a much bigger problem to me.
  10. The Brewers are third in the NL in runs scored. I don't think who's batting second or who's playing short is the problem here. For six consecutive games the Brewers have had the lead entering the opponents seventh or eighth inning and are 3-3 in those games. They should be riding a six game win streak or at worst be 5-1 in those games. The bull pen just hasn't gotten it done in the last week.
  11. Abusing Sheets? Coming into this game he was averaging under 100 pitches a start and this was only the second 120+ start this year. I haven't seen much abuse this year...
  12. yeah, Franklin getting Ginter to ground into a double play probably was just like Kinney pitching to Barry Bonds. I'm sure Franklin would have never given up a HR to Bonds because he can pitch out of jams. How can you seriously compare the two situations?
  13. Yost also cut his teeth in Atlanta, where they swear by the "certain catchers for certain pitchers" rule. Javy Lopez was pretty darn good last season but still only appeared in 120 games as a catcher, including late inning substitutions. He missed some time with a hamstring injury, but he still only caught Maddux once or twice the whole year. I guess what you need to ask is whether the Braves won all those years in spite of the catching system or were they better for it? On a side note, most starting pitchers will tell you that they prefer to have the same catcher, if that should be taken into consideration.
  14. Alejandro Machado was traded to Montreal on Sunday for a player to be named later according to the Expos web site. montreal.expos.mlb.com/NA...;fext=.jsp Not sure if it has already been posted, but I haven't seen it. EDIT: To activate link...
  15. I've always heard good things about Johnson. I know when he got the starting catcher job with the White Sox in spring 2002 there were a lot of people who thought he was going to be good. Of course, none of his stats back it up so he could just as well be a flame out.
  16. "I'm surprised you believe that if something is spun and written by the Brewers, that it must be true " You are the polar opposite. You think that everything coming out of the Brewers front office must not be true, has to be some sort PR ploy, and of course is always the wrong decision. Some of it is BS and some of it is legit, which is really no different than any other big company in the US. The Brewers have gotten two players from the Dominican since Epy was there. I'm not sure how someone can argue against making a change so I'm not even sure what you are upset about. Is it because you think they should have made a different change or is it because there are actually people in world who agree with a move the Brewers make once in a while? Just curious, what would you have done as GM in this situation.
  17. What is Ned doing not pinch hitting for Doug Davis in the ninth with a runner on third? Davis is clearly getting tired on the mound. C'mon Ned, get with the program here.
  18. Rusch has a 3.15 ERA since coming back up from AAA. Could that be enough to convince some team to trade for him.....
  19. The Beloit box score came through early this morning so I figured I'd post it. Of course, I have no idea how to get rid of the double spacing, but someone can help me out with that. 20. While I completely agree with your sample size argument, it cuts both ways. If you are going to throw out his stats as a starter due to only 19 IP, don't you also have to throw out his stats as a reliever in only 29 IP? My guess is that he's somewhere in between the two and allowing him to keep starting for a while longer won't hurt. But if this continues through the end of July then they might as well give someone like Coco or Obermueller a shot.
  21. I think one person mentioned this but the biggest problem I had with the 10th inning was the complete indifference the Brewers had to Rivas when he was on first base. I don't think DeJean even looked over there once and Rivas could have stole second base standing up. Didn't they realize that Rivas was the winning run? That just wasn't smart baseball at all.
