  1. That was a huge home stand. The true test starts on Friday for the next 20 days. No more Pirates and Nats for a while, unfortunately.
  2. John Sickles does a little bit of a profile on Inman. Not really anything new, except his prespective on him. www.minorleagueball.com/ (made it a link -TC)
  3. ESPNews is reporting that Lee has an $80 million/6 year offer from the Orioles that close to being done.
  4. While I'm glad Mike Jones has a 2.80 ERA in 54.2 innings, it has to be tempered by his 27 walks and just 30 strikeouts. I just can't imagine him getting away with that at any higher levels than single-A.

  6. I was yelling at the tv to do exactly that. I don't think it should be that hard to think of if you've played as much baseball as they have. The only thing is if Cirillo fell on the bag as he caught it, but the ump did not call the runner out until he tagged the bag with his glove. Of course, none of it really matters. They still stink.
  7. correct me if I'm wrong, but he could have just tagged the guy standing on first base and then tagged the bag for a DP, right? I'm pretty sure that the guy going to second doesn't have a right to first base at that point.
  8. Has anyone mentioned yet that the Brewers play the Cardinals six times in the last two weeks of the season, including the final three? Still an extreme longshot, but that September schedule is really weak. It would at least be fun for them to stay close enough so that those six games against the Cardinals mean something. EDIT: whoops, I missed that October game. They actually play STL seven times in the last two weeks. All I ask is that they stay within seven games so there is at least a shred of meaning at the end of the season.
  9. From today's notes on milwaukeebrewers.com Melvin and Yost got their first look Friday at Jeremy Jeffress, the team's first-round draft pick. He pitched in an Arizona Rookie League game started by rehabbing Brewers ace Ben Sheets. "Jeffress' first four pitches today, when he came in for Benny, were 100 [mph], 99, 101, 101," Yost said. "I was standing right there watching the radar gun. The lowest he threw was 97 mph, but most of his pitches were right there at 99."
  10. Watching a De la Rosa start must be like watching a Mark Rogers start. 3 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 6 K. To be fair to Jorge, he allowed 10 balls to be put into play and seven of them went for hits, which is an unusually high rate. He didn't pitch well today, but I think he was better than what his stat line shows. I think he did well enough to get another start.
  11. To quote from the third article that you cited: "If your goal in life is to hit home runs, then I don't think a corked bat is going to help you too much," said Nathan, who has published studies on the subject. "On the other hand, if you're sort of a contact hitter, a singles hitter, then a corked bat probably can help you." Since Iribarren is indeed a contact hitter and not a power hitter, the article you provided actually contends that corking the bat may help him.
  12. Can't Corey Hart get at least one start against a left-handed starter?
  13. the cubs haven't scored a run in 25 straight innings now. They've only scored one run in their last 38 innings. Putrid.
  14. I kind of disagree. I think it's better to take that chance with two out than try for a base hit with the next batter.
  15. four straight balls and rickie swings at the first pitch. nice.
  16. Nashville has five guys in the lineup with a .900 OPS (Prince, Hart, Cruz, Zuniga, Rivera) and only two of the guys are veteran journeymen. This certainly bodes well for the next few seasons in Milwaukee.
  17. Dave Winfield played over 200 games in CF and he's 6 foot 6 inches. Obviously, he was an incredible athlete, but there is someone who's played it at Corey's height.
  18. They shamed themselves by losing three games to a team that is 73-41 and won the NL Pennant last year? That seems pretty ridiculous. brettac has it right, there's no reason to start jumping off of bridges because they lost three games to the Cardinals. My vote is that Yost made the wrong move by letting Sheets hit, but of course that one decision didn't decided the game. I thought Larussa made an idiot decision by squeezing a run in the first inning and they won. It just proves that a team can win despite a stupid manager decision.
  19. because he did botch it. Look, if your best reliever is available to pitch two innings and you fail to use that reliever until the game is tied, then you failed as a manager regardless of how the defense played. It's quite possible that the poor defense would have lost the game even if Wise was in the game, but Yost still didn't manage very well at all.
  20. Yost botched it by not using Wise in the eighth inning of a one run ball game. If he was fine to pitch two innings in a tie game then your best setup guy is well enough to pitch one inning with a one run lead. If he needs the rest then don't pitch him at all, but if you are going to use him then get him in there when you have the lead. That and some shabby defense....
  21. Corey Hart since May 1st: .310 BA, .558 SLG, 4 HR, 10 2B, 16 RBI, 7/1 SB/CS I'd call that turning his season around in a hurry....
  22. Yost said the Brewers are putting Hendrickson on a pitch count for the rest of the season because he's thrown 150+ innings or something like that, that's why he got the early hook.
  23. I was at the game tonight and it was a beautiful night to be at the park, even if the team stinks. There is nooooo way that there were 23,000 people at the game. I've got to believe that was paid and not actual. I've been to plenty of games with around 15-18K and I'd say that's what was there tonight.
  24. gotta love this defense. I think sheets got burned by it last game too.
  25. he would have been safe. patterson took his time, even if it was on target.
