I never quite understand the question and answer portion of beauty pageants. It is like people are expecting a total ditz to fire off a non-sense response to a question, which does happen at every pageant in America.
-
I am so clueless as to what she was trying to say, I am speechless. What exactly was the point she was trying to cross when she answered that question? I personally like how she referred to us as U.S. Americans (we are United States Americans? I didn't know we referred to us as so). It is more of a grammar goof than anything, but whatever. And why would they ask just a stupid question to begin with?

blingster, you beat me to it. My guess is it could be Turnbow's dog or maybe Coco's dog. I remember when Richie Sexson was a Brewer and him and his wife were advocates of the Humane Society and Sexson's wife made a calendar of Brewer players and their pets.

Dude, I wanted to be more drunk... and I seriously thought about this thread for awhile... and I just got home and had about 7 beers and 3 shots of Tequila within 2 hours and then went home and I feel coherently fine. Since I live with my parents, they don't want beer in the house so I am stuck drinking cheerleader beer right now (Bartles and Jaymes Tropical Mango). Well then, I had a bad night out on the town in Racine.

20fry, I can't get my license back yet due to a "situation" I had back in January and I have two outstanding tickets I have to pay off before I can get it back and my money is so tight that I can't even afford to pay my two tickets right now. I then have to appeal to the DMV after I pay the two tickets to get myself reinstated again. I had a great driving record prior to January and never once got a moving violation ticket before then. Because of my "situation" my work won't allow me to drive for them for another 3 years. I would explain the "situation" but I am pretty sure you know what I am talking about or read between the unfortunate lines.

8/24/07: Brewers (Vargas) at Giants (Lowry) (9:15 CDT)
jaybird2001wi replied to TooLiveBrew's topic in Archived Game Threads
Here is tonight's lineup, per the JSonline.com Brewers blog: 2B Rickie Weeks RF Corey Hart 3B Ryan Braun CF Bill Hall LF Kevin Mench C Johnny Estrada 1B Joe Dillon SS J.J. Hardy RHP Claudio Vargas -
Here is the St. Louis Post-Dispatch story about Pujols. Sounds to me like Pujols will exercise "caution" when playing even though La Russa and Pujols both know the risks of him playing through pain.

Seeing as how Cappy just got demoted to the bullpen since they can deal with a four-man rotation for the time being, I can understand why Parra hasn't been pitching as often. My guess is that since Cappy is in the bullpen, Parra will get more cushion because Cappy can do mopup work now.

20fry, my work schedule was okay'ed by my bosses. They know I can work back-to-back doubles without a hitch. I can work double shifts as long is it doesn't exceed more than 16 hours in a given shift (or else corporate will give me written disciplinary action). To be honest with you, working my doubles isn't all that bad. I do usual work on 1st and 2nd shifts (responding to resident needs, etc.) and third shift is the easiest shift to work. In an eight hour 3rd shift, I do maybe 3 hours worth of cleaning and book keeping and then I can sit and chill watching TV the rest of the shift. Aside from the 3 hours worth of cleaning, etc. my only other duty is to stay awake because some residents may wake up with insomnia. I haven't had any major issues with residents working third shift. Some of the other overnight staff actually bring their Playstation 2s or 3s and play video games to pass the time and I know of one third shifter who brings his own putting green and practices his putting. But there comes times when our third shifters are in overdrive when we are notified of walk-throughs the next day, which means the house needs to be spotless and we gotta dust everything in sight, so that takes maybe 6 hours. But I always give myself something to do every hour so I am doing something the entire time. To put my work ethic into a baseball analogy, my work sees me as a long-reliever type that is capable of absorbing a ton of innings within a short amount of time with occassional spot starts (1st and 2nd shift).

Sorry katuluu, I am just a bit stressed right now. One of the reasons I am willing to do that is because I need my health benefits back... fast because I have a prescription drug that I need every month and it would cost me $115 a month instead of $15 a month.

Put yourself in me and my parents' shoes for a minute on this one. I am currently in search of a job closer to home (as stated in prior threads) and the job hunt is not doing well. I am currently working as a caregiver, which I have good standing with my company and they bend over backwards to schedule me when I can get up to work (my transportation is my parents). I have been willing to work one double shift a week (3pm Saturday through 7am Sunday) because of my transportation issue (Racine to Muskego) to ease the burden on my parents. I dropped down to part-time and voluntarily lost my health benefits as a result of being no longer full-time but my work has been NEEDING me to work additional hours. I was able to negotiate a deal to take on another double shift (Sunday 11pm through Monday 3pm) which puts me at 32 hours a week for just two "days". My parents have been willing to drive me to work those two days and it works out because my dad works until 3pm Monday and seems to enjoy driving the country roads for some reason to pick me up on Mondays. But since I am now at 32 hours a week, it would make sense for me to pick up an additional shift so I can regain full-time eligibility and my health benefits. My suggestion is to voluntarily work Friday third shifts and then my two back-to-back doubles to get my 40 hours a week (I am used to working like this, so it is absolutely doable on my part). If you were my parents, would you be willing to take on an extra burden of driving me to work an additional day? Keep in mind that my schedule would look like this: Friday 11pm-7am; Saturday 3pm-7am; Sunday 11pm-3pm. My mom would drive me to work Friday and pick me up Sunday morning (I can crash at work or at a coworker's house in between my Friday and Saturday shift). Would you do that if you were me, and would you be willing to do it for your kid? I am intrigued by this working schedule since it gives me a few days off to recuperate and it would ease the burden of my work in scrambling to find people. Give me your take.

Contraction draft revisited
jaybird2001wi replied to jaybird2001wi's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I always thought Indianapolis could support a baseball team. They are probably the biggest city in the nation without a baseball team and they have supported the Colts and Pacers in past history. They also have the Indy Indians, which does have a solid AAA history of winning games (which was one of the reasons they jilted us as our AAA team a few years back). With a team in Indianapolis, it could probably compete for fans with Cincinnati and Chicago since it is almost in between the two cities along I-65. -
Oh, and I am kind of skeptical on the First 48. It always has the same detectives and I wonder if the Detectives are more in it for the attention than the actual nabbing of the suspects involved in the murder(s). To add to my CSI comment, the one and only reason I would watch the show is for Jorja Fox, but I will save my comments in the Hot Babes thread which has since been buried in the Off-Topic forums.
-
I don't mind Body of Evidence with Dayle Hinman, but the thing that irks me about that show is that it always fails to get the point across. It seems like Hinman describes what happened as she "receives" the phone call about needing her assistance. She speaks like 500 words when it only could have taken 10 words to describe why she was called in the first place. The one show that I am not at all fascinated by is CSI, I just could never get into that show for some reason. Oh, and samwise... you are probably describing the Diane Borchardt story in regards to the Jefferson High story. I know a guy who knew the Borchardt family when I went to UW-W. He went to Jefferson High a few years after the incident happened there and he knows the son of Ruben Borchardt and a couple of the police officers who were involved in the case and he said the TV movie starring Ann Margret was totally bogus.

U of Michigan football player speaks da truf!
jaybird2001wi replied to parkside21's topic in Off-Topic Forum
Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. That statement above says it all after what I just read. Honestly, what kind of test do they give college recruits to get them into their football programs these days? Insert the correct block in the right peg? -
I am a bit bored and what makes me pass the time is watching TV crime dramas involving Forensic crimes and cold cases. Are there any websites out there that show or present true solved cold cases kind of like A&E's Cold Case Files? I could read these stories for hours.

When the above mentioned the minor leaguers... I had the initial thought of a "minor-league phase" of the dispersal or contraction draft. -

I was thinking about this for awhile. Let's just say, hypothetically, the Marlins and DRays were contracted from baseball and they were to hold a contraction draft for the players on the team's 40-man rosters and have the worst team's pick first. I was just trying to find a google search image of a flooded County Stadium and came across and old pic of Bonnie Brewer. I know the pic was probably in the 70's, but she seems cute. Anyone think we should bring back Bonnie Brewer? KegStand, that is a sweet Reggie Jackson card. I started going up and down on my computer screen to see if it actually could work on a computer. Anyone ever remember Collect-a-books? The small little books the size of baseball cards? I somehow always got Jim Abbott and Nolan Ryan's "book." http://i3.iofferphoto.com/img/1162627200/_i/15174708/t_1.jpg I also remember when shredded beef jerky the shape of tobacco chew had baseball cards in them. I used to be a big collector of Wally Joyner cards. Here are some other things I remembered in a series of pictures: The old-school computer floppy disk: http://store.syndicomm.com/images/iie-telecom525.jpg http://www.theanthillmob.com/images/gamecentral/atari2600.jpg http://www.collectorscardsandgames.com/new/nes001.gif MLB for NES http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2003/all/boxshots2/563437_45508.jpg http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/media/11627/1/51.jpg

I don't want to hijack the Oregon trail thread, so I am gonna post my thoughts here on the wonderful era we call the 80's. In elementary school, our teachers used to have the "600 minute reading club" where students who read for 600 minutes got a free ticket to Great America (Six Flags). I also remember learning the dewey decimal system in the old library and watching Levar Burton in Reading Rainbow. My 3rd grade teacher made us read pretty much all Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume books, and remember "Mouse on the Motorcycle" of all the books I read. Did any of you eat paste in kindergarten? I may sound like Ralph Wiggum when I say this, but I ate the crayons during arts and crafts hour. Any of you all forced to wear "idiot mittens" at recess like me (mittens attached to your coat)? The two most fun activities in gym class were those small little square boards with four wheels on them and you can slide across the floor and the large parachute activity. I may be 24, but my elementary school still had the old school film strips from back in the 60's. I remember me and my friends walking to the nearby card shop and buying a pack of topps cards for like 45 cents and I was a total idiot when I was seven years old and thought that we "randomly traded" baseball cards for one another. My teachers were so corny that during holidays such as Thanksgiving, we would have to dress up like pilgrims or something and we would have actual thanksgiving steal feasts during lunch the day before the holiday. Oh, and the elementary school had a student run play called the Nutcracker every year. The coolest project ever was my fourth grade teacher let us raise our own ant farms for science class. I was also selected as milk monitor during lunch hour in elementary school by a teacher which made me feel special. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif

Number Munchers was an awesome game until I realized it was a nerdy game for math geeks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I remember playing a game called Cross Country Canada, which is a game where you are a trucker trying to pick up supplies and ship them elsewhere. I could never figure the game out. All of the games produced by MECC were awesome. I started elementary school right when the Apple 2e's were just going obsolete as far as school funding was concerned (which was back around 1988 or something). I will always remember the black and green colored screens on the old apple computers. Then they switched to the simple Macs which had a small 6 or 7 inch screen (we went through so many different models of computers back in elementary and middle school, I lost track of what was after the old Apples.) http://www.greylizard.net/images/mycomputers/comapple2e.jpg Anyone remember the old floppy disks? http://itp.nyu.edu/~bp432/blug/floppy%20disk.gif

I am playing westward trail, the generic version of the game, and I ran out of food immediately. One of my oxen died and I all of my party members are near death. I played this game almost 3 times a week back in elementary school and never once beat it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I lost westward trail because of this: Severe winter weather has snowed you in. You had to resort to cannibalism before finally dying of hunger. You lose!

Uh rah rah, I also went to the game and sat in section 223. The people who described the sun in the grandstands were not kidding. My bald head almost turned to full blown red by the end of the game, so I had to get up out of the shade a few times and walk around the stadium to keep my head cool. Besides that, I noticed something about the team that I didn't notice when they beat the Phils with Yo starting, the offense just simply doesn't know what they are doing out there. It is like the team either fails to make hitting adjustments are they appear to not really care about the game right now. None of the hitters with exception to Prince in his two walks ever even attempted to work the count. It seems like every 2-0 or 1-0 count, they just kept swinging away. Who is giving them the green light on these pitches? Why isn't Skaalen even trying to tell them to lay off once in awhile. I also noticed the pitch speeds, Wainwright was coasting from 70 mph to 85mph all game and yet the Crew failed to take advantage of it.
