For kicks and giggles, here is a mock article I just wrote up: MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired veteran outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. for a trio of players from the Cincinnati Reds. Cincinnati will be receiving outfielder Geoff Jenkins and prospect Tony Gwynn Jr., along with recently acquired minor leaguer Chris Cody in exchange for the 19-year-veteran. Griffey, 37, is batting .286 with 23 home runs in the National League and is 14 career home runs shy of reaching 600 home runs. ?With the injury to Bill Hall and his undetermined return to the lineup, we felt it was necessary to get (Griffey) on board,? said Brewers? General Manager Doug Melvin. The move brings the Reds closer to a major overhaul of their roster after suffering it?s 50th loss of the season before the All Star game, setting a pace for the worst losing season in Reds? history, surpassing it?s 1982 campaign when they lost 106 games. Griffey is expected to be in uniform for the Brewers Friday when it hosts the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park. Phone calls to the Griffey home in Cincinnati went unanswered. Jenkins, 33, was less than 50 home runs shy of being the Brewers? franchise record holder in home runs, set by Hall of Famer Robin Yount with 251 home runs. ?I am in the state of shock right now,? Jenkins said on the Brewers flagship radio station in Milwaukee. ?This organization has been so good to me. I have been through a lot of losing seasons and have stuck by them.? Gwynn Jr, 24, has bounced back and forth between Milwaukee and its Triple A affiliate in Nashville most of the season and has shown promise as being a catalyst with a .301 batting average, but has fallen out of favor with fans for low power numbers. Cody was recently acquired from Detroit in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jose Capellan two weeks ago and was set to begin his stint with Double A Huntsville. Melvin plans to use Griffey in left field when Hall returns from the 15-day disabled list with an ankle sprain.
