First time poster in the drunk thread and I am feeling good as a kite. Spent some time at the bar watching "The Bronx is Burning" and the Celebrity/Legends Softball Game and all I could think about was Leann Tweeden.

Katherine Heigl aka "Isobel" from Grey's Anatomy is a Goddess if you ask me. She is hot in every way necessary. Just do a Google search on her and you would be amazed about her. -
John Clay ineligible (Update: Or is he?)
jaybird2001wi replied to MarquesJohnson2000's topic in Off-Topic Forum
My brother was Johnny Clay's former teacher in high school, so my brother is taking this news as a shock. But I can't say I am surprised since the Badgers were fawning over him since he was a junior and they were doing everything to get him on the Badgers. The only reason Deondre Jenkins, a wide receiver who graduated a year before Clay in high school, was given an athletic scholarship to Wisconsin was to lure Clay to the state capitol. -
Sickels' Crystal Ball on Ryan Braun
jaybird2001wi replied to jwaltz's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Apparently John Sickels believes Curtis Granderson will be a Brewer in 2015 after playing three seasons with the Cubs. Granderson will be 34 when he gets to Milwaukee. Sickels also projects Granderson to be a Manager of the World Champion Cubs in 2038. -

My theory may be way off-base, but here is what I think may have happened the night she disappeared: - Gets walked home by male friend and runs into another male friend she knew from UW-Whitewater. - Male friend may have had a vehicle with him and wanted to talk to her about something. - Male friend tries to do "something" to her and she tries to fend him off. - Nolan likely dies as a result and is dumped in Oregon, between Madison and Edgerton. - I used to be a news reporter/intern for the Lake County News-Sun. From my experience there, they will likely spend the next 24 hours undergoing forensics to positively identify her. Then they will notify the family before going before the press. - Afterwards, they will undergo toxicology results to see how much alcohol content was in her at the time of her death and the Medical Examiner/coroner will run a series of tests to see if there was foul play (abrasions, cuts, wounds, gunshot entrances and then they would most definitely try to see if she was assaulted by the assailant). If you must see proof that I was a news reporter down in Waukegan, Ill, take a look at one of my articles: Tank Johnson's house raided -

Why do I get the feeling that this is going to be such a bizarre case that it has Law and Order: SVU written all over it? -
I went to UW-Whitewater, didn't know her... but she was majoring in Public relations... which was my minor. I definitely feel for her family at this point. Body Found in Village of Oregon, near Madison (Edited subject again to reflect the ID status - hawing)

Rachael Ray is kinda chunky, but her level of cuteness makes up for it. I am not saying she is fat, but she seems like the girl who would be your neighbor. -
I am being bugged by my brother's upcoming wedding. I am supposedly the co-best man at his wedding and the wedding is in less than 2 weeks and the other best man has already made bachelor party plans without even consulting me or contacting me. I feel like a "figureheaded" best man who is only at the wedding with a presumptious title without any real responsibility. What is worse is that the other best man scheduled the bachelor the same night I happen to work, and I can't even get out of my double shift.

I am on my way to watching another episode of Army Wives (a hot female coworker forced me to watch it at work) and somehow I am now attached to the show. What shows are you folks watching that makes you ashamed to admit to your closest friends? Mine are (reasons in parenthesis): 1. Army Wives (Roxy is cute) 2. Grey's Anatomy (Katherine Heigl, star of the new movie "Knocked Up" and Meredith Grey) 3. WNBA Basketball featuring Becky Hammon of the San Antonio Silver Stars and Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm. 4. Extreme Home Makeover (I am somewhat of a fan of carpentry shows) 5. Rachael Ray's Food Network shows (gives me good food ideas for when I finally move out and need to start thinking of how to cook more creatively instead of eating frozen pizzas and chicken nuggets every night)

The Phils did the unthinkable today, helping out the Rockies groundskeepers keep the tarp from flying away during a rain delay. This story makes me think of Vince Coleman's 1985 World Series incident and Rick Dempsey's bloated imitation of Robin Yount at Milwaukee County Stadium during a rain delay. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270708127 Phillies 8, Rockies 4 DENVER (AP) -- Shane Victorino wrangled with an out-of-control tarp before a rain delay and then hit a two-run homer after the stoppage in Philadelphia's 8-4 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The Phillies helped the Rockies' grounds crew cover the field during rain delay in the seventh.(Doug Pensinger/Getty Images) The win puts the Phillies dubious milestone on hold until after the All-Star break. They've lost 9,999 games in franchise history. Jimmy Rollins had three hits -- including two RBI singles -- and Pat Burrell hit his 11th homer of the season for Philadelphia. Adam Eaton (8-5) won for the first time since June 11, going six innings and giving up four runs and eight hits. He also struck out three. Ryan Madson pitched three innings for his first save. The Phillies did their good deed for the day in the seventh-inning delay, rescuing members of Colorado's grounds crew from underneath the whipping tarp. A strong burst of wind caught hold of it as the crew tried to roll it over the infield. Victorino grabbed a corner, dug in his feet and pulled it as hard as he could toward left field. Ryan Howard held a section down with a knee. Michael Bourn started heaving sand bags onto the tarp to weigh it down. Even plate umpire Bill Welke and crew chief John Hirschbeck were out there trying to keep the tarp from flying away again. The grounds crew had no trouble with the tarp when they removed it following the 50-minute delay. It's the second straight rain delay, the one Saturday night lasting one hour and 22 minutes. "That was the worst ever," said Mark Razum, Colorado's head groundskeeper. "The wind was so strong, we couldn't hold it. When it draped over the guys, I was worried that somebody might suffocate. It was really cool the Phillies came out and gave us a hand." Although the presence of loss No. 10,000 is hanging over their heads, the Phillies say they are paying little attention to it. "It's no big deal," infielder Wes Helms said. "Other organizations that are around as long as the Phillies have been are going to eventually reach 10,000 losses." Todd Helton and Kaz Matsui homered for the Rockies, whose five-game winning streak ended. Aaron Cook (5-6) lasted six innings, giving up a season-high 12 hits and allowing five runs. All the publicity surrounding loss No. 10,000 has worn out Philadelphia players. And even made them a little sensitive to the subject. "It's not worth talking about," said Chase Utley, who had two singles and an RBI on Sunday. "This team has been around a long time. There isn't much to say about it." Howard will be taking a familiar arm with him to San Francisco as he tries to defend his Home Run Derby crown Monday night. Bullpen coach Ramon Henderson will be throwing him belt-high fastballs on the inner half of the plate. The two have been working on their timing the past few days. "He's pretty good," said Howard, who has 21 homers this season. Henderson also pitched to Bobby Abreu when he won the contest while a member of the Phillies in 2005. "I'll be nervous, too," Henderson said with a grin. "I hope he kills a few sharks [in the San Francisco Bay]." Game notes Philadelphia and Colorado are 44-44 at the All-Star break. ... Colorado RHP Jason Hirsh will throw a bullpen session Thursday to test his sprained right ankle. Hirsh, who's on the 15-day disabled list, could be sent out for a rehab start sometime after that. ... Colorado's eight-game winning streak at Coors Field came to an end. It's tied for the third-longest in team history.

What about Kenny Lofton?

Well, I got something to do today. Gonna go to my brother's house to watch the game this afternoon. Ugh, I hope Cappy sends the Crew into the break on a high note.

I know most of you just hate Tony Gwynn Jr. right now. He may have about as much home run power as an ant right now. But the guy can run and he can hit for a high average. In my opinion, the only reason for the recent hatred is that the rest of our offense has fizzled. If Rickie Weeks would return to his offensive best and be put further up in the order, the Gwynn rants would not even be happening. But I just discovered something, he has not had one single career Major League homer. I know Gwynn is still somewhat young, so lets send him back down to the minors and bring up Rottino?

The August 31 waiver trade deadline has its loopholes though. For example, if the Brewers were to acquire a player in September through a trade, they can get around the playoff eligibility rule by stashing an injured player on the 40-man roster prior to August 31. I believe this happened to the Anaheim Angels in 2002 when they won the World Series and Francisco Rodriguez became the hero. Rodriguez was not added to the 40-man roster until after August 31 because they basically had an injured player stashed on the 40-man roster. One of the roster rules states that a player, who is not on the active 40-man roster, can be placed on the post-season if he replaces an injured player. I know ESPN.com had an article about this loophole a few years ago, and tried doing a google search on it but could not find it. Hypothetically, the Brewers could "activate" Corey Koskie from the 15-day DL and stash him in the minors and then acquire an extra bat or arm after August 31st and then declare Koskie "out for the season" and remove him from the 40-man roster, hence leaving a spot open for the acquired player, who is now eligible for the playoffs.

I recall a time in 2002 when Armando Rios of the Pirates was playing at Miller Park and my brother and a few of the bleacher regulars in the field bleachers continued to heckle Rios all game and Rios tipped his cap a few times and when one of the bleacher regs, named Dave, yelled to Armando: "If you can hear us, flip us off!" Rios responded with a quick flip and my brother and the regs laughed so hard. That is the reason he was one of the leading vote-getters for the 2002 All Star game. My brother, myself and a few other people stuffed the ballot box in favor of Rios that it became a national mystery as to why Rios was in the top 10. Here is the proof that me and my friends stuffed the ballot box in favor of Rios in 2002: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4196/is_20020617/ai_n10781872

Well, I am officially bored. I woke up at 7am for no apparent reason on a Sunday and I don't even know what to do with myself for the day since it is going to be in the low 90's outside. I am running out of ideas on fun things to do or things to kill time.

I would hardly call Zach Jackson a prospect at this point. He has been given three or four chances in the Majors already and he is still streaky. Weathers will likely be dealt for a pair of low ball minor leaguers.

Griffey as proposed by Steve "Sparky" Fifer
jaybird2001wi replied to recte44's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
There is something that bothers me about trading Jenkins. I was an advocate about trading Jenks for a long time, but the guy is less than 50 homers away from being the Brewers' franchise home run king. I know it isn't much, but I think Jenks would like to break it. Griffey would not want to be a Brewer, and plus, the Reds would be insane to trade with a divisional opponent that involves a player of Griffey's magnitude. endaround, Griffey's contract expires after the 2008 season. -
Interest in the All-Star game?
jaybird2001wi replied to dikapalooza's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The baseball All Star game is probably the best All Star game in all of the 3 Major American sports. The Pro Bowl in the NFL is the least watched because everyone is getting over the "Super Bowl hangover" while the NBA's All Star game is probably as popular as the regulation season games, which is nill. I will watch, but what bores me is they play musical chairs with players. One at bat, you are done; one pitch or batter, you are done. -
Bob Uecker has been a guest in a few TV shows here and there and was in Mr. Belvedere and Major League movies. What was your favorite Uecker role aside from the Major League movies? He had quite an acting and tv resume: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0879902/

ESPN "Who's Now": Is it me, or is this stupid?
jaybird2001wi replied to UeckerAddict's topic in Off-Topic Forum
ESPN has been going downhill since the likes of Keith Olbermann and Carig Kilbourn left the network. ESPN has turned into a sloppy sports network with network execs there running out of ideas. ESPN wasn't broke back in 1992, and they decided to fix something that wasn't broke... making it broke when it comes to quality programming. Classic Sports Network was good until ESPN decided to buy them, now all they show is basketball games from the same era and nothing but World Series of Poker from year's past. What is next? Is ESPN classic going to start airing Curling Championships? If I was in charge of ESPN programming, here is what I would do: 1. Find a solid core of Baseball Tonight anchors/analysts and stick with them (none of this musical chairs of former ballplayers). a. If I had a choice, I would make Brian Kenny or Karl Ravech the host of Baseball Tonight, rehire Harold Reynolds and bring back Jeff Brantley as the pitching analyst. Maybe call up Joe Girardi as the third wheel of former ballplayers. Keep Kurkjian and Gammons as insiders with occassional calls from Jayson Stark and Buster Olney. 2. Stop taking up SportsCenter with nothing but Yanks/Sox highlights whenever they are playing. Highlights have gone downhill and after discussing the Sox/Yanks rivalry for the first half hour of a one-hour SportsCenter. I am surprised viewers on the west coast haven't sent in death threats or made phone calls to ESPN complaining. 3. Make SportsCenter informative again, instead of trying to be sensationalistic by interviewing Amanda Beard who was just featured on Playboy. All SportsCenter needs is an Ann Coulter-esque or Nancy Grace persona and I would officially stop watching ESPN. 4. Stop airing World Series of Poker re-runs on ESPN Classic, my God, why don't they just make a whole new network devoted to card games because that is all ESPN Classic is these days. 5. Make a solid core of SportsCenter anchors. I don't even know who anchors the show anymore. The anchors I would like to be on SC are: Michelle Bonner Anthony Amey Brian Kenny 6. Banish Chris Berman to just football 7. Banish Stephen A. Smith to just basketball -
