I can complain! It's what I do. As Ennder wrote, of course every team has multiple instances of draft regret. But I don't see Tampa regretting as much. St. Louis, unfortunately, doesn't, either. Arizona...San Francisco...Texas...Washington...the list goes on, where these talent evaluators aren't as responsible for so many broken-down high school arms, wasting draft class after draft class. Since so few free agents want to come to Milwaukee, and trades require us to surrender prospects, you'd think our top priority would be to beef up our scouting and talent evaluators. The sad thing is, someone will answer that we ARE dedicating " x number of $ " to this already. But outside of those dark times when our last-place finishes yielded top picks (Braun, Fielder, Weeks), our draft guys don't seem able to make deft selections on late-1st rounders, and that's a huge problem I'd like to see us target forward-thinking minds from Tampa, Texas, SF, etc. and overpay to bring their successful approaches to our front office, instead of guys responsible for picking all these banged-up teenagers who never make it.

Ben, I'll readily spot you Narvy, for obvious injury reasons. But I don't see Mike Gonzalez as a LOOGY just yet. He's not THAT old. And Badenhop would have been a better choice too. Could Fiers have been used, now that his next turn or 2 will be skipped? I also thought Tom Gorgonzola was a starter recently. Maybe he should be a long man. ANYONE but our fragile little butterfly Axford, is a better option right now. I'd like to see us call up a minor leaguer, even. At this point, Double-A guys might be less scared When Ronnicky sent him out there again for that 2nd inning, after his confidence was raised a fraction by that scoreless 1/3rd of an inning, I started to skip through it on DirecTV out of fear of what was next. Sadly, I was proven right He'll, I'm not even recording tonight's game. It comes down to who I'd rather watch - John Axford or Sarah Hyland from Modern Family That's an easy call....

But with all that production, we could have been a playoff team, right? It's just that this season, he's mismanaging the team by leaving himself short on bench options with the 13-man staff. Kyle Lohse as a pinch hitter with the game on the line? Continuing to send Axford out there in game-defining situations? Leaving Jesus H Khrys Davis & Schafer to rot on the bench with AGon & Maldonado hitting < .200 out there? Ronnicky may not be awful yet, but you can't be satisfied with his handling of Axford, can you?

With all due props to whoever came up with RRR, I wish I would have thought of this, but so far today, on The Big Show, guest host LeRoy Butler keeps calling our milquetoast, Yost-Ian field leader, "Ronnicky" Nice! By the way, given his stubborn, unwavering support for an obvious failure in Axford, his refusal to try minor leaguers at the expense of more playing time for proven-bad veterans, Ronnicky is now up there in the pantheon of Brewer managers with Ol Scrap Iron & Ned His wimpiness against St Louis in the 2011 playoffs started it for me. Last night confirmed it. We need a new pitching coach, first, then I'd be open to a new skipper next season...except he somehow was rewarded with a new-ish contract.

This is probably the eariest this has happened in a long time. Whenever the Raiders stink - which is nearly always these days - I tune out football. And while I was laughing when I heard the Broncos lost Elvis Dumervil to free agency, due to an inept paperwork deadline mistake of all things, my sense of schadenfraude wasn't as sharp as it had been. It's probably because we can't challenge them for anything meaningful, any time soon. So why bother getting worked up, when there's so little hope, right? That's how the Brewers are already making me feel this year. With our closer looking like the latest incarnation of Derrick Turnbow, the young starting pitchers not showing much, Corey Hart disabled, RRR still managing the team, and now Aramis Ramirez in serious pain, I'm starting to hate baseball back. Does anyone else feel this resigned sense of indifference yet? And that's manifesting itself in indifference, which is unfortunate. Since DirecTV is enabling the MLB package for free this week, I was pumped, watching not only the Brewers, but as many games as I could. But after getting kicked in the groin again last night by this team, I didn't watch the late West coast games, as I usually do. And now, this morning, my son was watching Quick Pitch, and I couldn't get psyched to pay attention. I know, I know, I'm overreacting, and a few wins to get us back over .500 could make me happier. But with all our injuries and disappointing performances by guys we're counting on, it's not looking good right now.

Seriously? 44% are excited to see Mike Fiers? How did Wes Obermueller do? Maybe it's limited ot just our homegrown minor leaguers, so I'll choose Figaro. Then Hellweg or Burgos. I cringe when Fiers is mentioned.

Betancourt is at 1B. And NOT Jesus H. Khrys Davis? Brilliant. How can Davis be any more inexperienced there, than Gonzalez and Betancourt? What's the harm? I hear some people say this Davis character can even hit.

And Schroeder can stop talking about how "powerful this Colorado team is." They suck, OK? Last place. The Brewers are making superstars of Reid Brignac, Chris Nelson, Dexter Fowler and Wilin Rosario. Not exactly household names, Bill. The game is in Milwaukee, not Denver, but the homers are sailing out, like we're at Coors. It's our pitchers. Period. Brandon McCarthy, Paul Maholm, John Lannan...all available, all better than the scrubs we're sending out there. I didn't expect us to re-sign Greinke, or bring in a Dan Haren. But migod, we're going to lead the majors in HRs allowed. Last year, it was the bullpen (and with Axford, we're still in trouble at closer), this year, we wnet cheap on the rotation, and we're going to pay for it again.

He didn't cost us a player or even a draft pick. Minor league deal, so no guaranteed $ so that's good too. And he's a veteran bat for the bench, which is what I said we needed anyway. As long as RR doesn't feel compelled to play him over Segura - as long as Jeano has an OBP > .300 - then I see no harm. Just wish he was a first baseman, but hey...

This Scott Boras nobody is our second best pitcher now? Please enlighten us how a career hack is not equal to Looper and Suppan. He's old, overpriced, did nothing outside of St. Louis, and as far as we've read, Doug was probably bidding against himself Lord knows I favor free agents with a proven track record over prospects, but this guy doesn't have any proven track record outside of the Cardinals. For a team that had Prince Fielder anchoring 1B for most of the last decade, it's pretty disheartening to see who's there now. OK, I know Corey will be back in...May? But until then, I will vomit with rage if I see Alex Gonzalez there on Opening Day. I never counted on Gamel anyway, but given our extremely weak bench, does anyone think, for a low-risk deal - IF he doesn't want to retire - would Carlos Lee be an option at 1B, at leats until Corey's back? And after that? He could be a solid righty bat off the bench who may even, godforbid, DH or play LF or RF to spell someone, and get maybe 200 at bats. Alright, I don't expect much. Mark probably spent the last of his extra dollars today. And Carlos probably may just retire, but I'd be more comfortable if we had a professional hitter like a Johnny Damon or a Bobby Abreu off the bench. Hell, even if Jesus H. Khrys Davis can grab a first baseman's mitt, instead of A-Gon, I'm desperte enough to take it.

OK, I'm grateful that Mark was willing to eventually invest in his ballclub, but if Doug would have been allowed to pull some kind of trigger, much earlier, he could have maybe brought in someone who was actually worth 8 figures per season. I'm just so terrified that Lohse = Looper = Suppan... a career hack who was only good when he was in St. Louis, and then Doug foolishly buys into the hype, and overpays for another Cardinal stiff. Fiers has imploded as I feared, and Rogers was never going to amount to anything. So that leaves Lohse as the de facto Whipping Boy

Getting swept at St. Louis in early August, seeing Gallardo crap the bed against them every time...Axford, K-Rod and that godawful bullpen blowing save after save...Weeks falling off the cliff, Fiers too...trading away Greinke to cut payroll...climbing back to 79-73 (that WAS inspiring!), but getting torched 12-2 by the Nationals, and then going 4-6 the rest of the way to fall back out of contention, losing to the likes of the Astros and Padres, ferchrissakes (Nice outing against Houston, in another key game, Yovanni), that was the very definition of "uninspiring". "You know what raising the payroll this year would get us, a named bullpen guy signed to a 3 year deal or a marginal FA pitcher signed to a 3 year deal. The team just didn't have any other holes to fill." You say that, Ennder, because that's how you view "outsiders" we bring in, to, godforbid, raise payroll in an effort to win. We raised payroll and traded away such luminaries as Matt LaPorta, Zach Jackson, Rob Bryson, Lorenzo Cain, Jeremy Jeffress...to get star pitchers who sealed the deal like Sabathia and Greinke. I'll freely admit that Escobar is doing pretty well in KC, but if we read again today that Doug traded a pile of...."talent" like that for a Cy Young winner, Brewer Nation would be thrilled. Raising the payroll could have netted us a Brandon McCarthy or a Paul Maholm, Ennder. They weren't prohibitively expensive, and could definitely have been an upgrade over the likes of Fiers, Narveson or Rogers. I know it takes 2 to sign a contract, and for all I know, they may not have been interested. But I hope that Doug was out there, trying to upgrade the rotation instead of settling for the convenient, and of course cheaper,"we're going with the young guys" option.
