  1. Under Reinsdorf, the White Sox have been all about embracing "the world is against us" clowns like LaRussa, Harrelson, Pierzynski, Don Cooper, Ed Farmer, Guillen...and now LaRussa Mach II. When Sox fans are allowed back, after the game, they better get home first before their drinky manager rear-ends them on the Dan Ryan.
  2. Really, my dear old friend xis, who gives a rat's ass what I wrote? I'm just glad to be able to drop back in again. If someone in a position of power around here can help me change my name back, and lose that 8 in my moniker, I'll really feel like Geno Selig-Prieb again. And once that happens, a stream of drunken rants will be released, not unlike a grand enema of free speech!
  3. I'm not saying BF.net necessarily scapegoated Trent, but our FO apparently gave up on a 23-yr-old who played a SMALL part in an inning that will go down in infamy as part of the Brewers' continuing series of chokes in the postseason. With Braunie possibly gone, and Davies still effective, I sure wish Stearns could call "take-back!" on that trade.
  4. I am happy for Trent. He makes one bobble in RF, in a series of screw-ups, in that playoff game, and he's pretty much scapegoated. Since Davies is now allowed to pitch, godforbid, 6 innings, and since Urias seems overmatched, so far, it looks like a very bad deal for Stearns.
  5. I figure there will be plenty of Red Sox fans who will support Alex Cora with their nose plugged by their thumb and forefinger. It's the same as I did when the Brewers got Jim Edmonds, and when my Raiders added Bill Romanowski. You cheer for the team even if there is some collateral damage to your soul in the process.
  6. So...you don't approve of the Mets owner....therefore, a boycott of Brewer merch. AND, after thousands of posts here, you didn't watch much baseball. OK, that adds up!
  7. The 2011 White Sox under LaRussa: Steroids, sign-stealing, throwing at opposing batters. Then, Tim Anderson will homer, flip his bat into the mezzanine, and taunt the pitcher.
  8. If the Brewers ever reach the Series again, I can definitely see Counsell doing the same thing to, say, Woodruff, that Kevin Cash did to Snell
  9. The 7 Central teams went 2-14! Today was arguably the best baseball day i've experienced in years. Cubs leak down their legs, now, I won't have to hear the announcers kiss Molina's backside for 3+ hours straight, until next year. I'm doing a shot....make it a double!
  10. Nice of you to say. LE. I plan on calling out Attanasio for suddenly playing it on-the-cheap...Stearns for assembling this lousy collection of rummies..."young manager" Counsell for playing bums like Houser and Sogard so often...Yelich for abandoning/forgetting the plate approach that earned him that ridiculous contract...Haines for failing to come close to fixing our $215,000,000 investment...Houser for costing us so many games...Hader for being so damned predictable...Hiura for regressing...Narvaez for falling apart...and our training staff for so many injuries.
  11. Clapclapclapclapclap! By the way, it only rained here in Chicago for about 10 minutes today. They could have played this afternoon...easily. With New York already eliminating the Indians, you just KNOW that MLB/ESPN wanted one of the Favored Five (Yankees, Cubs, Cardinals, Red Sox and Dodgers) in prime time tomorrow night.
  12. In 2020, is 10 strikeouts in 6 innings, against a AAA lineup, really a "masterpiece?" Nice guy and all, but hopefully, Nottingham can change into street clothes now, and that'll be his last time in a Brewer uniform...Healy, too...and Peterson...and Sogard...and on and on...
  13. First off, there's no "8" in GenoSeligPrieb! Wish that could be fixed... Anyway, I'm appalled to see Moose, Thames, Pomeranz, Grandal all be allowed to leave, only to be replaced by these "gritty veterans." And if we had Burnes healthy yesterday, instead of Shaun Marcum circa 2011 last night, we'd be in decent shape. I half-expected to see the retired David Freese out there tonight.
  14. Can I also ask why we always hire managers with no major league experience? Given our tiniest TV market and finite resources, in 2011, we got a once-in-a-generation collection of talent. A limited window of opportunity. And i just can't get past the notion that, in the NLCS, a veteran manager would have dug in against the umps with their bizarre strike zones, against the bullying, brush-back/bean-balling LaRussa, and argued a call or 2. Could have changed the series But no. We only have championship talent before they leave Milwaukee for more money, every 20 years or so and we entrust this rare convergence of talent to a timid rookie manager Maybe in 2031 or so, when we're 95-100 win caliber again we'll have a tough aggressive manager to close the job
  15. Jim H How many years have you "Internet-known" me? We go back to the Fastball.com days. Don't I get a benefit of a doubt? I meant, even after my disclaimers, that maybe Ronnicky was too GOOD a person. Ned Flanders is an example. Great guy. But maybe he's not willing to go all LaRussa/Billy Martin, opting more for sportsmanship and kind words and whatnots over the killer instinct profile Have I ever come close to denigrating a religion here? Ever before? And which religion did I specify? NONE! Because it doesn't matter which one. Go ahead and use "spiritual" then. C'mon...
  16. Nah, Hitman_Hart, if you knew me from back when I had been posting actively, you'd know how much I hate ESPN and ESPN types like Valentine. i would prefer someone who knows the game inside and out is well-respected like a Tom Kelly, or a Jim Leyland type. Ronnicky seems more concerned with staying the course and appearing calm and playing the game the right way like a sportsman and all that crap - even if it's at the expense of winning the championship. I truly believe that. Without sounding like a douche and please don't take this the wrong way those of you who are of this faith, but is Ronnicky like hard-core Christian or something? It could explain a lot...
  17. "Does anyone on this site ever like the current manager?" I'll go to my grave, staying with the notion that Davey Lopes remains a knowledgeable baseball mind, well-respected throughout the game, who was given the lowest payroll and absolutely the worst talent in franchise history, and was fired because he couldn't elevate such bustouts like Henry Blanco, Jason Bere and the flyin' Mouton brothers into even a .500 team When Davey was canned, Bob Nightengale wrote eloquently about how this was a bad, hair-trigger move, especially when Ol Scrap was allowed to string 7 straight losing seasons in a row with much better talent, because he was afraid to tell it like it is, unlike Davey: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/2002-04-24/majors.htm Hell, I liked Ronnicky too.......until he displayed his warm oatmeal approach in the 2011 NLCS. So, for my part at least, I have also liked Del Crandall, Harvey Kuenn, George Bamberger, Tom Trebelhorn, Jim LeFebvre....
  18. This team is giving me cancer. I am so damned sick of ****** like Pete Kozma, Shane Robinson and Daniel Descalso standing on top of the plate, with ZERO chance of getting brushed back, because Ronnicky's pitchers don't do that sort of thing of course. I'm not calling for throwing at these .200 hitters. But as Freese and Furcal did in the 2011 NLCS, once they can relax and extend their arms across the plate at any pitch, they're in charge. And after the game what does Ronnicky say today? "We didn't play bad all 4 games" I'm waiting for either a) him to get mad for once and show his team that crapping the bed against THIS lineup is not acceptable, or b) a sportswriter to godforbid ask why his teams are so passive against our top rival. I'm tired of him
  19. Torts beat me to that comment. How in hell can Ned...I mean, Ron, sorry they're becoming tough to tell apart, continue to send in at BEST a mop-up man when the game's on the line. Axford panics when the chips are down. Even dopes like me can see that. Yet Ronnicky keeps sending him out there Dumb-ass Motor, I hate Axford, but Ronnicky maybe even more
  20. I know, I know, his OBP is not good, and his current slugging % in the upper .400's won't last. But he has been a godsend, with all our infield injuries, and when Hart & Ramirez return, I'd be glad to see him get a chance at 2B, even as a part-timer to platoon if Weeks continues to suck / or inevitably gets hurt.
  21. Is this rock bottom for Rickie now? Migod, when he's not hurt, he's hitting like Henry Blanco, now he can't even field the one lousy position he seems willing to play. I know this is heresy at BF.net, but when Aramis and Corey return, I'd like to see the worst player in MLB get a chance at 2B, if Weeks still sucks/gets hurt - The YuniBomber. Even Ueck sounds pissed: "Rickie'll tell ya, he should have caught that one...a gift run..." That's saying something.
  22. OK, Thurston. By the way, I enjoy a nice colorful name. Good choice Anyway, I guess I am saying that I fear that our minor league instructors may be giving Hunter Morris cigarettes, having him sleep in a small bed...whatever it is to stunt his growth. He may become an AAAA player. I want him to succeed to be our next first baseman for years to come. I guess that's a long way of saying our minor-league instructors are not developing our nuggets correctly.
  23. "He may or may not pan out. The point is they had 4 legitimate possibilities beyond Hart and Ramirez which you seemed to forget about when saying the brewer lost two guys and had to resort to a 30 year old hack catcher. Sadly three of the four got hurt as well. No team overcomes that without a serious drop off. " Well, actually, you can say that about every minor league prospect. They may not pan out. But you shouldn't go from AA MVP to not being recalled when we desperately need a first baseman, because you suddenly can't hit. Fishy... I also wonder why some first basemen, ones who may not hit like Corey, but at least can field the position (well), were not at least tried, instead of Lalli. Free "talent" at 1B, like Jim Thome, Carlos Lee...and Freddy Sanchez has played 3B before and HAS to hit better than our scrubs. Sure, these 3 are past their prime, but they have to be a better option, with experience at 1B, than Betancourt or Lalli.
  24. Yeah, but isn't Hunter Morris suddenly unable to hit the ball lately? In ST, he struggled mightily, which suggests his development has been blunted. I also question why recently-decent relievers come to Milwaukee and suddenly become a pack of Obermuellers. Badenhop, Gonzalez, all caught the same virus when Axford started to cower in fright. Quarantine Axford! Keep him away from our new relievers! That, or keep Kranitz and Tunnell away from them
  25. I hear your counter-arguments, Ennder, and I have to admit, your points are pretty valid. However, SF has turned these picks (plus, of course, some judicious trades and key FA signings) into 2 rings. The Nats DID benefit from similarly advantageous draft positions with 2 superstars. But their drafters were also responsible for Danny Espinosa (a 3rd rounder), Jordan Zimmermann (a 2nd rounder), Ian Desmond (3rd round), etc. Tampa & Texas have built organizations where the talent keeps flowing, even as they sustain playoff teams nearly every season You're right that development is also key. Something must be wrong if we lose a Hart, a Ramirez, and the only corner infielder our minor leagues can feed us is a 30-year-old hack catcher like Blake Lalli.
