  1. My comment was directed toward calling Rogers out as a loser. Just seemed over the line and an overly personal attack. Has he been a disappointment as a prospect? Definitely, but a loser seemed over the top. Fair enough. It was an emotional response to the news that this is his 2nd violation. To me, that just brings embarrassment and shame to the team--from a guy who hasn't earned any Get Out of Jail Free cards. It's like Gagne starting his Brewers career by being named in the Mitchell Report. I would be much more forgiving if it was a guy with a track record of success for this team. I've been a fan for a very long time, and will continue to be long after Mark Rogers has faded from memory. I don't feel the need to cheer for a guy just because he's wearing the shirt.
  2. Wow this seems overly harsh. Injuries dont make a guy a loser. The drug use is not okay but being a bust and injured should not be in the same category. If I had to guess I would say he tested positive for something that was used to speed up recovery or ease pain. But it could just be weed. You're right, injuries don't make him a loser. I was summarizing his career after 7 years with the organization. He's had virtually no impact on the major league team, with no reason to honestly think he's going to turn it around. Then to have two failed drug tests--what's the point of keeping him? As for what he tested positive for, your guess is as good as mine. Your guess is very generous, which makes you really supportive of the guy. Whatever it was, he's responsible to keep banned substances out of his body, and he failed. Twice. So after 7 years, he has as many starts as failed drug tests. That's worth keeping?
  3. First round bust. . . Can't stay healthy. . . Suspended for drug use. . . Clean the roster of this loser.
  4. 1. Harmon Killebrew. . .Quiet, dignified, repectful--and respected. When he died earlier this year, EVERYONE said nice things about the guy. 2. Lee Trevino. . .A very good golfer, with a funny self-effacing demeanor. His is a great story about overcoming economic and social disadvantage. 3. Buck O'Neil. . .I could watch his interviews every day, and they would bring a smile to my face every time. 4. Dennis Eckersley. . .Another great life story, a historically great end half of his career. . .and another guy who is a good storyteller. 5. Cecil Cooper. . .Yount & Molitor are both awesome guys, and both had vastly better careers--but to me, Cooper is the guy who I connected with during the great run of Brewers teams in the 70s and 80s. And I concur on the Clemente book. It's terrific. And the reverence that so many Latin players have for him says so much about how he lived his life.
  5. My oldest boy love that show (or is it Miranda C.?) 40 years ago that's me and Marcia Brady, so I give your son his due respect. Thankfully my old eyes can only see young Carly as a dad would. Glad her injuries weren't too severe in that bus accident this weekend. My wife, daughter and I discussed naming our next cat "Gibby" in honor of the doofus on the show. I think I have them sold on the idea.
  6. Anybody who insists on any kind of protocol for giving gifts to a three-year-old can choke on it. There are no rules--only that you give something that you think the kid will like. And the kid doesn't care if it cost $5 or $50. The gift is for him--not his parents, and not your parents either. If they don't like what you give, maybe you'll be spared the assault on your free time next year and you won't have to attend. While I'd love to hear that you held your mom's head in the punch bowl for a few seconds, I also recognize the need to make happy, so the rage I'm offering in this post is for BF.netters only. Moms get nothing but smiles, even if they are through gritted teeth.
  7. If it is the shirt I'm thinking of, that image was on the cover of the 1975 Media Guide.
  8. I guess it depends on the age of the kid and the message you would write inside the card, and whether or not the card was going to be kept. If it's for a young kid who doesn't give a rip about the message, and only wants to bust open a toy or something, then you can forget the card. . .but if it is an older kid, I would write something poignant or touching and hope the card made its way into a box or drawer as a keepsake. I'm a keeper of such crap, and I sometimes wonder why. . .but then I look through and see a Christmas card sent several years ago by my now deceased grandmother and I'm glad I have it.
  9. For me it's "Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog..." Yeah, she likes that one too. Sorry DatHoser.....Istanbul (Not Constantinople) is always a good choice for me.Enjoy your Mickey Mouse Clubhouse days, gents. . .My daughter is now 7 and wants to dump all the Mickey DVDs because they're "too baby". Now she's singing the theme song from iCarly ALL the time. I think iCarly is a terrific show and like watching with her, but I do miss the Meeska-Mooska-Mickey-Mouse days. . .and there ain't no Mousekatool to bring them back.
  10. That's odd that the threads are so close in posts. But what's also odd is that the Random Thoughts thread has 10,000 more views than the Bugging You. I guess that means people are more interested in what perplexes others than in what angers them. Dopes.
  11. I'm a wrestling fan from way back. There will be times when I fade away for a few years, but I always come back to see the latest and greatest. The Punk spot was awesome--though I agree that they brought him back too soon. They could have milked it out until later in the fall. But I can see why they want to make SummerSlam a good event. I would like to see less of Orton & Cena & Mysterio. . .I do like that they're giving Christian, Mark Henry & R-Truth some serious attention.
  12. I'm bugged by some of the infomercial channels on Directv. I'm scrolling down the program guide looking for something for my kid to watch, and to get there, I have to scroll past a program called Brazilian Butt and another one called Perkier Boobs. I'm able to blockout the descriptions on the truly adult stuff, but for some reason these two are right there as I'm looking for SpongeBob.
  13. I haven't watched it in awhile, but Channel 58 used to bang out story after story during their newscasts. Not sure if they still do it that way, but I used to like them. I used to live in Jacksonville, and there the NBC and ABC affiliates were owned by the same company, and they combined news operations and called it First Coast News. They simulcast it on both stations, and it was a decent newscast. Milwaukee is small enough that it might make financial sense for two locals to team up to form a better quality organization than they could afford as competitors. At least they could send their reporters to more places.
  14. Carl Zimmerman was also a classy gent, and someone who would merit my youthful respect. I just couldn't handle getting the weather from a puppet. http://www.toontracker.com/milwaukee/dublon.htm To me, it was McCullough at the news desk with Paul Joseph on weather and Hank Stoddard on sports. Those guys were my tv window to the world. I also can't handle local news anymore--because it's just not news. If they would just give me 30 minutes of what happened around the city and state, with a short weather forecast and maybe a sports recap--that's enough. Instead, we get 5 minutes on a house fire, 10 minutes of weather (how much can we possibly need?), a story about how a Wisconsinite was delayed at some airport somewhere, a restaurant that failed a health inspection, local reaction to national stories, a guy eating a cream puff at the fair, and then 6 minutes of Packer stuff. Stop interviewing local residents. Unless they escaped from Dahmer's apartment, they don't have anything interesting to say. Stop showing headless fat people walking around while you read about the latest obesity stats. Stop showing some goof from the health department telling us not to over-exert ourselves in hot weather. We know not to. McCullough and Zimmerman wouldn't recognize today's local news--and I might watch one broadcast every two weeks. I'm a family guy, home just about every night--if they're not getting my eyes, who's watching this stuff?
  15. http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/125926698.html Any Milwaukee area resident from the 1970s and 80s will recognize his name and face. To me, he was the news. He seemed very level headed and professional, and I don't remember tv news being loaded with so many puff pieces back then, either. His passing is especially sad for me.
  16. There's something upsetting that WWE's William Regal has over 10,000 more Twitter followers than The Vatican.
  17. For the record, it was a guy. . .probably in his early 20s. . .and I suppose that from his perspective, I indeed looked like I was about 150 years old. He didn't ask me about the antitrust ruling, but he did campaign for me to reconsider on Buck Weaver.
  18. Today for the first time in my life, I was asked by the grocery cashier if I qualified for the Wednesday senior discount. I'm 49--not 69. . .and I was with my 7 year old daughter. I attribute it to the idiot cashier being completely clueless about what "senior citizen" looks like--not to me looking old. Outpost in Wauwatosa. . .you've got a fool working the register.
  19. He seemed to have lived a pretty fine life. Hard to imagine how many hours of my childhood were spent watching his work. . .Farewell Sherwood. Thanks for some great pop culture!
  20. Not sure if he is one of us on this board, but a good story about a guy whose game playing earned him some publicity. http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/124951669.html Strat is a very fun game.
  21. My technique is to remove all the outer husk, all the silk, and just keep enough inner husk to hold in the moisture--1 to 3 layers, tops. I prep the ears and soak them in salted water, and then cook them on medium heat, away from the direct flames. Spin them around a few times and rotate them, and they'll be done after 10-12 minutes. You'll have some charred husks, but that's part of it.
  22. Kevin Barker taught me to keep my expectations in check.
  23. Nothing wrong with a dad trying to generate some buzz for his son. But most people have to understand that the Mets are hurting financially, and will likely not be players for someone who is going to get huge money. Plus the legacy of Mo Vaughn isn't forgotten among the Mets' faithful.
  24. I like baseball. I read Moneyball. It was interesting. I couldn't ever imagine wanting to see a movie based on that book.
  25. The Marlins are going to name Jack McKeon as interim manager. He's 80, and he had trouble remembering his players names when he last managed 6 years ago! This is why I buy the Extra Innings package.
