  1. It's also possible that the concussions in the NFL are less severe because of the better helmets. They are larger with more cushioning, and while they clearly don't stop concussions, they could be providing just enough of a reduction of the impact to reduce the severity. Wayne Chrebet would disagree: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2007/09/chrebet_suffering_consequences.html Kyle Turley would disagree: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-thegameface091809
  2. The NFL is a meat grinder. Those guys are broken and battered by the time they're done, and so many live shortened lives with chronic pain and lifelong disabilities. The league and its broadcast partners have kept that part mostly a secret up until the past few years. When you tune in on Sundays, recognize the price those guys are paying. Glad that baseball is acting more responsibly as it relates to concussions.
  3. My memory is like a jigsaw puzzle and the piece that is the right answer to this question is long gone. I looked it up and I wouldn't have guessed this one with 200 guesses.
  4. Jon Lieber? I think he was with the Pirates for awhile, and I think he didn't stink the whole time. . .
  5. Glad you're safe. That's the most important thing. The 2nd most important thing is to file that police report and to change your passwords. All for an iPod. What a dumb thing to steal.
  6. Alright, here's another commercial that is very irritating: We have one of the Nickelodeon channels on at our house almost whenever the tv is on. They have a commercial in their rotation for something called Kidz Bop, which I suspect is some kind of karaoke/dance instruction DVD where your kid can sing and dance to pop songs while imitating the tv kids. During the commercial, they crank through several of the songs on the disc, and I've seen the commercial so many times, now I can't get those songs (sung by those annoyingly perky happy kids) out of my mind. If only I could combine my other pet issue (the savagery of bull fighting) with these Kidz Bop kids. . .there would be justice. If I imagine a wild, amped up bull ripping through the Kidz Bop set and goring a few teens, would that make me a bad person? I think the answer is no.
  7. I love it when bad stuff happens to the Cubs. But not this time. Hopefully the guy has a full recovery.
  8. As a Sheets hater, I saw this post and immediately jumped at the chance to dispel such a claim. But Stevo is right. Sheets has 18 CG in his career, and that's good for 16th among active pitchers. Only Sabathia, Buehrle and Cliff Lee are the same age or younger, with more CG than Sheets. Enough to justify retiring his number? Hardly. But enough to earn a little more respect from me. And I don't think he's going to get to 19.
  9. I must be exceedingly old, as that girl seems like a child to me. I am not affected by her in any way other than I wish she wasn't on my tv so often.
  10. The tv ad featuring the girl who is in her pajamas but who is going online for some educational website. There's nothing really wrong with the ad, except for the frequency of it. They are blitzing MLB TV with that one.
  11. Been to: County Stadium Miller Park Metrodome Old Comiskey US Cellular Wrigley Chase Field Coors Field Fenway Park Old Yankee Stadium Shea Stadium Veterans Stadium Oriole Park at Camden Yards Tropicana Field Sun Life Stadium My favorite was of course County Stadium, though for strictly emotional reasons. For the park itself, I'd pick Coors as the best. Beautiful combination of new and old, good food, beautiful view. Awesome mountain skies. Convenient parking. Now that we're back in the US, I hope to check a few more off my list. . .New Yankee, Citi Field, Citizens Bank, Nationals Park. . .all close enough to drive.
  12. Awesome for you. . .Enjoy the new life! My daughter is now 6 and man, the time goes FAST!!
  13. Doubtful he'd be able to make it all the way through the ceremony without tweaking his smiling muscle. They can retire Sheets' number if he comes back as pitching coach for 15 years and leads the staff to a World Series. Until then, no chance.
  14. Good post jhart05. . . I'll be on the lookout for that one.
  15. I can't tell what kind of guitar that is. . .the picture is too fuzzy, as is my own knowledge of all things Stratocaster. I just know that 1000 years ago, when I played guitar, I didn't like playing the Strat, and prefered the sound, feel and balance of a Telecaster, and of an old Gretsch knockoff that I had. I guess the point is, I wouldn't base my decision solely on whether this guitar is authentic or not. How is the action? Does it need any work? How long before you can afford the amp and cord? Does the trading partner even own the Strat to have the right to trade it? I wouldn't deal for it for lots of reasons.
  16. No way on retiring the number. It might be different if he nailed down some WS wins or something, but after time, his days in Milwaukee will not be remembered any more than the careers of Bob Wickman, Mike DeJean, Mike Fetters, etc.
  17. I can't remember the last time I heard a public address announcement that alerted someone that they left their car lights on. That used to happen all the time.
  18. Awesome visual aids on a What's Bugging You Topic!

Really? I don't mind Everett, he does name drop a bit too much, but I think he and Karabell have developed a good chemistry on the show. Of course, Everett is no Peter Pascarelli. Peter and Eric together was pure gold.I also loved Pascarelli and thought of him when the Bud statue was unveiled. I like Eric Karabell on that podcast, but Everett rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed that he spent too much time talking about himself, his resume, his ESPN NY stuff. . .lots of ESPN cross-promotion that grows old. Like nothing happens in the game unless he was there to see it. And frankly, I had never heard of the guy before this. He was talking about himself and Griffey, etc. . .and I really couldn't care less about how good of pals they are. And, they kept bringing on Mark Simon, another guy I had never heard of, to recite some innane trivial facts about the last time a player whose last name started with a J pitched 6 or more innings in 15 straight starts while giving up no more than 5 hits, and junk like that. . . Just random trivia that made Karabell roar with laughter in a geekfest. Maybe its better now, but my pod is full. I might go back to it in the offseason for a fix.
  20. There are fewer ways to dull a razor more than doing your head. I have tried doing my face after doing my head with a Fusion, and it tugged and pulled, and had to get rid of the blade. I usually use a Fusion until it's fairly worn, and then do the Stone Cold Steve Austin. I get about three weeks out of a blade doing a daily face folowed by a head at the end. And then the cycle begins anew. Can't believe I logged my 1500th post on that one. . .alas.

My new regular rotation includes the following: Mark Belling Tony Kornheiser Dan LeBatard Mike Francesa Steve Somers Don Imus Bill Simmons I dropped Dan Patrick, as I'm tired of him interview athletes. I dropped ESPN's Baseball Today when they added Seth Everett. I dropped MLB.com's Fantasy 411 when it became a tv show.
  22. Jim The Anvil Neidhart is in trouble both legally, and narcoticly. . . http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/09/06/professional-wrestler-faces-drug-burglary-charge/?test=latestnews That bums me out.
  23. Gobias, you beat me to the punch by about 5 months. . .I just found your stake to this claim from early April. We do indeed think alike. That guy is very off-putting.
  24. The dimpled, dark-haired actor who is featured in the State Farm Insurance commercials. I'm bothered by State Farm's attempt to hip it up. Insurance is supposed to be sold by dumpy awkward-looking people who you would otherwise see at a church picnic. Instead, they have this good looking guy with a bright smile and cool confidence chatting it up with random strangers at a ballgame. And then I'm bothered yet again, as someone as good looking as him shouldn't have eyebrows as out-of-control as his are. He can spring for the teeth whitening, but not a little tweezing? This guy haunts me.
