  1. Interesting question: would you rather have two in the top 100 but they are both top 20 or 7 in the top 100 where only one is top 50?
  2. I think he founded SS Mariner back in the day. Kind of a crazy career progression after that.
  3. He K's a lot of guys. Maybe they saw a flaw in his delivery that will fix his control a bit. It's a minor league contract. Not a big deal to take a flier on him.
  4. I really wanted UW to make the playoffs just to see how they would have stacked up against those four teams. I don't think they win the whole thing but I wanted to see how they compared as much as anything.
  5. It's better than it used to be but it's still not right. There were 6 - 7 teams that could have made a great case to be in the playoffs.
  6. I'd be curious to see Brady's scouting report out of college. Everyone's seen his photo from the combine. Edit: Google owns the world: Poor build, Skinny, Lacks great physical stature and strength, Lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush, Lacks a really strong arm, Can’t drive the ball downfield, Does not throw a really tight spiral, System-type player who can get exposed if forced to ad lib, Gets knocked down easily That's actually from Brady's instagram but the dude seems like he plays with all kinds of chips on his shoulder so wouldn't surprise me if it was legit.
  7. Odd about the extension. Brantley hasn't played more than 100 games since 2015. Maybe they think the injuries were flukes or something.
  8. Brantley is getting up there in age (he'll be 31 by the time the season starts) and hasn't been healthy for a few seasons. I could see them wanting to replace him.
  9. Will that overcome the fact that Frost is heading to Nebraska? The fact that they let Frost coach the bowl game tells me they knew that was their best chance to win the game and stay in the news. Remains to be seen what they do with the exposure.
  10. There were more minority coaches in the NFL at the beginning of 2017 season than at any time in the league's history. Maybe the Rooney Rule is simply a case of correlation not equaling causation but on the surface it appears to be working. Ron Rivera is part of that number. Now it remains to be seen what is defined as "minority". Does interviewing Norm Chow count? I don't know. Also, I'm not sure we can say Whaley "failed". He was fired last April after the draft. So he is pretty much totally responsible for all the players on the Bills roster that made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.
  11. The thing about the Rooney Rule is that even though these look like token interviews (and in a lot of cases they are) at least guys like Whaley get to interview in front of a bunch of front office types. These guys talk and maybe down the road Murphy tells some other team "We were actually impressed with him. You should take a look". So maybe GB doesn't hire him but it expands his sphere of influence a bit.
  12. Where are people getting that Ball is Ted Redux? Is it just because he worked under him so long? Also, no one complained when Casey Hayward was let go. He was injured almost as much as he played. McGinn was supportive of the move.
  13. Bob McGinn is saying that Ball will be next GM and Gutekunst will be VP (assuming Gutekunst will run personnel dept).
  14. I think UCF is just doing it to stay relevant during the dead recruiting period.
  15. Why would Cain sign a two year deal when this is his first and only big contract? Why would a team give up worthwhile value when they had a chance to just beat the Brewers offer? I dunno.
  16. Two year deal, flip him in the off-season or at the deadline.
  17. There's a lot of risk with both guys. I just don't see Stearns making this kind of move right now for either pitcher. A trade for Cobb BEFORE last year seems more his style.
  18. Wisconsin could make a very good case that they were more deserving than Alabama.
  19. Hey guys, let's keep this on Cobb. We can start a new thread of Lucroy if need be.
  20. They did the same thing with Sherman then canned him with two years left. Didn't want a lame duck coach.
  21. OSU was absolutely humiliated though. It's not like they lost by 3.
  22. I think I suggested Cobb a while back (can't find the post) but $20 million per year is a bit rich, IMO.
