  1. Mortal Combat syle? That would be sweet. Hardy can dress up as Sub-Zero. It's basically because of him that the second wave of posters came over here, including me. He ruined that board.
  2. Yeah he's decent...but does he deserve to start ahead of Hall? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Fox, you are listening on a 2 minute delay or something
  4. You guys do realize that a game is actually being played right now, right? Bueller? This is the deadest game thread I've ever seen.
  5. In my opinion, this stat is completely worthless, as is another baseless bashing of Ned Yost. J.J. Hardy is a fine defensive shortstop. He's not Rafael Furcal, but I would say that his range is very comparible to Cal Ripken Jr. and Robin Yount, two Hall-of-Fame shortstops. I would take Hardy's consistency over Hall's erratic athleticism anyday at SS. I completely agree with Yost here. Hardy is a future star in the league.
  6. It's nice to see that Russell gets to come out and play today. Hopefully he can launch another 500-footer against Maddux. No Hardy, though....http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif At this point, I'd almost rather see Weeks get a day off than Hardy.
  7. This is really awesome. This team, even after being pillage (arg, matey!) by the Brewers, had enough dillegence to win the whole thing. Good for them! And you know what...the championship wasn't won by a team full of AAAA players (like the one that Indy won a few years ago). Legit prospects like Nelson Cruz, Mike Adams, Jeff Bennett, Brett Evert, Ben Hendrickson, Jeff Housman, Dave Krynzel, John Novinsky, Vinny Rottino, Dennis Sarfate, Mitch Stetter and Alec Zumwalt contributed to this win. Career minor leaguer Tony Zuniga (30 yrs old) hit .323 for the Sounds after scuffling at AA! I would say that all of these players (besides maybe Zuniga) have legit opportunities to play in the majors at some point. I wouldn't bee surprised to see Cruz, Adams, Bennett, Sarfate and Stetter break camp with the big club next year, with hopefully Evert, Hendrickson, Krynzel and Rottino waiting in the wings. Alec Zumwalt has proven that Capellan wasn't the only pitcher with upside we got for Dan Kolb. There is a heck of a lot of talent in this organization, and the credit should be going to our front office personnel. Go future Brewers!
  8. Eveland has been pretty dang effective lately, too. I don't have any problems with him being used in that situation.
  9. Boo! Double boo!!! C'mon guys, Russ hasn't played in what seems like a week. Cut the guy a little slack. Personally I'm getting sick of the "I'm going to hate Russell Branyan just because some posters here like him" train of thought. It's immature. I don't mean to open a can of worms here, but there is no reason to hate on any of our players, much less one that is rather effective.
  10. I think that Brainerd could make Snoop feel uncomfortable. So...umm....Snoop.....how did you come up with the whole fo shizzle catch phrase?
  11. I don't think anyone ever said that. Yes, OPS is an important stat, but as you have said, there are many others that are as important. I guess I look at OPS, 3TO and Whoa Solvdd in the said light (i.e. inside jokes that posters latch on to here that sometimes get blown way out of proportion) Like I said in the locked thread, one of this forums main ideas is quality discussions and arguments made with logical proof. I have no problem with staunch opinions, as long as you can back them up with logical proof. Saying that you watch the games and can plainly see it can't really stand up, because we all do that. If you think Russ K's too much, and can therefore not be a productive player for this team, that's great. That's a good argument that can be debated. But calling posters stat heads who don't watch games can't be argued without becoming hurtful. When I first joined this site 2 years ago, arguments were just as prevalent as they are today. However, tempers and frustration wasn't. Most times, posters just agreed to disagree, and left it at that. It's all in the ability to see and respect another posters point of view. I'm sure that, even though you may not like Russ Branyan as a player, you can see the argument that someone would have for liking him. It's easy to disagree with someone without going personal. I think everyone here should strive to be the self-actualized poster--which is the poster that can have an argument in a forum, but can plainly see the other point of view, and respects the poster that has it.
  12. I think basically it boils down to a few posters feeling singled out because they can't express EXACTLY what they are thinking. If everyone would just learn a little humility, it would go a long way.
  13. Please explain to me how pulling your stars in a blowout is not smart baseball. Of all the things to bash Yost about, this has got to be the most assinine.
  14. Ummm, it's 14-3. I think Ned could put HIMSELF in at this point with no harm done. If Mags is on this team, he might as well play in blowouts. Yeah, lets get Geoff hurt in a blowout. Great line of thinking there. The only way he legs out a triple is if the ball caromes off four walls and through the legs of three outfielders.
  15. Too bad this team can only score runs with Capuano on the hill. It's quite possible that Cappy, with a good Sept., can have an 18 or 19 win season. I doubt he can get to 20. I don't think he has that many starts left.
  16. This is a guy that went from many here wanting to DFA him or trade him to the first team offering up a warm body to nearly unarguably being the MVP of this team since July. Someone here says overpaid bum, I say Go Geoff, team leader. Baseball is a game of streaks...something many don't seem to realize.
  17. Rarely do players improve during the season as much as J.J. Hardy has this year. He's making those of us that called for him to be banished to Nashville earlier this year eat quite a bit of crow. He's now hitting .230 with almost 40 RBIs, hitting 8th most of the year. Those numbers are more than what I expected coming in to the year.
  18. Also, Trevor Hoffman made Prince look quite childlike. Yes, I know that Burnett and Hoffman are two pretty good pitchers, but expecting Prince to come in next year and immediatly be our version of Albert Pujols is pretty ludicrous, too. I've found that, especially with this team, if you get your hopes too high, it's just setting yourself up for disappointment. I'd absolutely love to see Prince come in at hit 40 HRs with a .300 AVG next year, but stats and history say that the chances of that happening are close to nil.
  19. Since this lineup is already K-tacular, I can't see how adding another strike-out machine to it is going to help. Lyle Ks quite a bit, but I guarantee Prince will K more, at least his first year. 99.9% of all power hitting rookies hit for a very low average and K a lot their first few years. It will take Prince awhile to figure it out.
  20. Actually, the way the Brewers are hitting him, you'd think he's got a 15-5 record with a 2.95 ERA. Usually the higher the ERA, the more they shut down this lineup. Just call it the Brewer Algorithm...
  21. We'll see how many here long for Lyle Overbay when Prince hits .250 with 30 HRs and 170 Ks next year. I like Prince, but in no way, shape or form is he better than Overbay at this point in both their careers.
  22. I guess he's putting that grounds crew experience to good use. If he doesn't make it in organized ball, at least he can fall back on going to work for Pops. Although there always does seem to be a need for catchers that can hit above .250, provide some pop and are durable. If Johnny keeps his head up, he could be the next Chris Coste or Kelly Stinnett.
  23. *WARNING* *WARNING* This is the National Argument Service bringing you a national Can of Worms alert. Please proceed with extreme caution.
  24. When you rip a manager for pinch hitting one of the top pinch hitters in the league, upset that the 21-year-old rookie didn't get a chance, you are grasping at some extremely thin straws. Hoffy, I know your heart is in the right place. I know you go way back to the ESPN boards. I don't question your loyalty. I guess we just disagree on how to voice our frustrations with the mediocrity of this team.
