  1. And That stated: Players on MLB 40-man rosters are not subject to suspension for marijuana, so they have probably the most progressive policy of the major US sports. Minor league players, on the other hand, still do get suspended for pot. This kind of makes me hate baseball (not really, I love it)... but seriously...this is like government level stupid logic
  2. I like him....to the point I actually traded for him in my Longitudinal fantasy league - where we have 30 teams and 114 player rosters - yes we have over 3,400 players in total....
  3. people need to watch that Uhen video...he is FILTHY
  4. Considering the guy traded for Beasley was just cut and that Snell has been excellent, I really don't think you know of which you speak
  5. http://tripleplaybaseball.proboards.com/thread/23714/mlb-salaries?page=1&scrollTo=72409 Thought this was very interesting...Forgive the weird aspects surrounding it, as it actually comes from a post made in a fantasy league I am in but the data is accurate
  6. The expectations going into this season were a bit odd for me as I knew the Brewers were going to not be a contender. I thought they had a chance to be a fun follow however. In reality, they were more fun than I expected. The final 73-89 record is better than expectations (the 9th pick in the draft is good enough for me, though I know many wanted a higher pick) and I think the fact they did not lose 90 is a big deal. Players such as Thornburg, Perez, Villar, and Carter surprised and excelled. I come out of this 2016 Brewer season with a great deal of positive memories, as well as expectations for the future, and that is about the best comment I could have hoped for in March of 2016.
  7. Watched the video of the near brawl with Jose Fernandez that McCann caused...what an insufferable fool
  8. The North Carolina High School team I coached played in Zebulon one year in the State Championship.....the park itself is desolate and a bit weathered and is pretty badly in need of updating. The park itself is fair, perhaps a bit more offensively geared but distances conventional. One of out players that is now in the Giants organization hit the scoreboard with a blast in the 2nd inning - which was something apparently only one minor league player had done before - it was about 475 feet...We won the championship, so I have very positive memories of Zebulon, and is only 2 and a half hours away from me, so I would be very pleased if that is where High A ends up
  9. The Braun performance enhancement scandal has been one of the most disappointing/confusing situations in my sports fandom....as a fan, the only Ryan Braun I have ever seen flies fully against a guy that would pull a Bonds and perpetuate a lie/run others into the ground. I still like the guy, think he has been a great teammate and pro, appears to love Milwaukee despite obviously being a SoCal guy, and has been the anti-Weeks as he has been shuffled around the diamond. If the negative chunk of Braun could be taken away, yes that chunk that guys like Jim Powell(who i love) cannot get past, Braun would have a legacy similar to Yount and Molitor. As was mentioned above, I think Braun's last game in Milwaukee as a home team player is approaching. I also hope that this is recognized and Braun receives an appropriate warm goodbye
  10. McCalvy just mentioned that the Dodgers offer for Braun was Puig, McCarthy and 2 un-named minor leaguers...with BMacs salary included, it appeared that money back to LA would be minimal...He stated that the potential deal went to last possible moment, that Braun stayed at the stadium due to feeling it could get done, and that the two teams truly ran out of time to finalize details....Braun will not be a Brewer in 2017 (my opinion).
  11. if we go 12-12 the rest of the way we go 73-89 and would likely get the 9th pick....I would rather not lose 90 (which I think is a big deal mentally) and get the 9th pick than go 69-93 and get 7th pick...Am I alone in this thought?
  12. Mitch Haniger? Not close in my estimation....Cordell has been mentioned as the best athlete in the Rangers organization - an organization that is rife with excellent athletes. He was also regarded as having the 2nd best raw power in the organization with Gallo the obvious best power source. Like Gallo, Cordell has major swing and miss issues in his game, and he also lacks baseball instincts to some mild degree I think and came from a small school in Liberty. However if you search his youtube stuff, you will find some catches that will literally make your jaw drop and some blasts to left that may have come off the bat around 120 mph....he stalled last year some and is going to be 25 for spring training, so he certainly has some warts to him....however he has serious serious upside as well, which Haniger does not have
  13. The Reds announcers were really excited about this story...they said he not only admits to not being a hard worker while being in the organization, but also intimated he had serious hard-partying ways that helped to derail his career....they mentioned a few indirect quotes from Hernan indicating that he devoted himself to faith and family and considers this to be his 2nd chance at his career....he did quite well this year in AAA.
  14. This is in no way to be confused with my post last year regarding Lopez perhaps being a top 100 prospect, though I will vigorously assert in no way was that a pox upon him that resulted in his poor year. Instead I have some numbers for you: 72 innings pitched - 42 hits - 12 earned runs - 11 walks - 84 k's over his last 11 starts...take away 2 rough starts right after the death of his brother, and it becomes 62 innings pitched - 26 hits - 2 earned runs (!!!!!) - 8 walks - 74k's Holy crap.
  15. Fun with charts....basically Keon has been hitting the ball, even his ground balls harder than anyone in baseball https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_leaderboard?year=2016&abs=50&player_type=batter
  16. One of favorite stats has become exit velocity over the last year or so that it has become readily available. Last night Keon Broxton had a game that is very unusual in that all 4 of his at bats produced an exit velocity over 100. His at bats clocked in at 103 105 111 and his laser shot of his home run was registered at 115mph. The top bat speed for a home run this season has been Mike Trout's 120mph shot and the fact that he had 4 at bats at an average of 108.5 is freaking astounding. We all know that Broxton has had awful contact issues in the past that still exist in a modified degree. There is a good discussion on him going on in the Gomez thread, but I think it is obvious that this guy is our centerfielder for the near future - we have given him regular playing time and he has blossomed. I think he a bit of Lorenzo Cain in him but honestly Broxton can do things Cain cannot do. Broxton's 17 stolen bases extrapolate out to over 60 in a season and the uniqueness of his bat speed and contact stats need to be recognized It is true that even his recent 58 at bats (a good number to multiply by 10 to dream on full season production) since he has been given regular playing time he has k'd 20 times - a troubling ratio indeed. However, in those 58 at bats he has also hit .400 on 24 hits, scored 11 times, had 9 extra base hits, walked 12 times and had 10 stolen bases with a 1.1 OPS Despite the k's it can be argued that he has had the best plate appearances of any player in baseball over than time frame. Coupled with the hard data that shows he is contacting baseballs at a velocity that others are not matching (when he connects) my short sample analysis makes me very enthused about Broxton.
  17. Bucks have hired Craig Robinson, who besides being Michele Obama's brother, was also a quite good coach for Oregon State University for 5 years till 2014. His title will be VP of Player and Organizational Development...Would not surprise me to have Obama be a significant presence at Bucks games starting in 2017 and their might actually be a chance he joins the ownership group: From realgm via the Washington Post: There has been plenty of speculation about how President Obama, who is only 54, will pass the time when he leaves the White House. White House press secretary Josh Earnest added one more possibility to the list: NBA owner. The proclamation came with a lot of caveats: "potentially, if the opportunity arose, under the right circumstances." Earnest, though, was clear on one point: The president has "discussed" being part of an NBA franchise ownership group.
  18. Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer The Cubs say they unintentionally played the song 'Smack My Bit.ch Up' last night when Aroldis Chapman walked off the mound in the ninth inning. The Cubs will have a strong response to it this morning. It was "unfortunate and should not have happened," according to the team. I actually have enjoyed watching the Cubs team last 16 months or so - enjoyable, entertaining and a good group....this Chapman deal might go a bit sideways for them, and despite my good vibes towards the players on the team, I will be pleased if it does because of my dislike for their fans and to some degree their management....the Cubs have a very long, very entertaining, and very painful litany of swoons and failures....maybe stupid mistakes that pull them from World Series appearances just reside in the team DNA, right down to the guy that plays the entrance and exit music...
  19. Taveras is gaining traction in my mind as possible because what the Rangers are doing with him seems odd - bumping him up to his 3rd level to the northwest league at age 17. Think Stearns may have asked for Rangers to challenge him perhaps....So far he is really struggling at the level....Payano is still dl'd
  20. While stretching to get a double last night, Stanton's groin apparently did not make it to 2nd base, as he has a very serious injury that will cause him to miss the rest of the season
  21. The Indians game tonight makes me think trade with them is more likely....Perez, who is hitting .048 was pinch hit for in late inning as part of unwieldy double switch, then the .550 ish OPS Giminez brought in vs. Nats.... That level of overt weakness vs a good club is the type of thing that spurs a deal
  22. Stat of the day: Gatewood in his first 94 games this season: 8 walks Gatewood in his last 2 games this season: 4 walks Now tied for 4th in league in home runs
  23. From Nick Cafardo in Boston Globe today: 3. The Giants really wanted Aaron Hill and were disappointed when the Red Sox acquired him.
