  1. Anyone that used to read Bill James old baseball almanacs might recall a category that James used to put players like Don Mossi in when he reviewed certain decades of baseball...I think Hader might fit well in that category (being intentionally vague so as not to offend)
  2. what a silly statement...yes...we have a chance of catching the Cubs.....sure, whatever you say.... The Red Sox are very catchable as they have ridden a wave of hitting that is not sustainable and both top teams right now have a wide disparity in home/away games....at the 1/3 way of the season, the Rays have a chance of getting back in this if they add to current team and get a better performance from Archer
  3. Marc Topkin, the lead writer for the Rays states today that the window for the Rays is right now, and he believes a deal for Lucroy should happen....obviously a fair ways a way from should to will, but writers have been known to posit their own theories from information they have culled, and Topkin is one of my favorite twitter follows because he definitely in the know.... Some things his article http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/rays/analysis-rays-need-to-get-radical-before-season-slips-away/2280354 mentions is that Jake Odorizzi is viewed as a trade chip, which confuses me as he ia 26 year old pitching like a solid #2 starter, and it should be mentioned that their top prospect, Willy Adames is a near clone of Arcia - a smooth shortstop with pop and speed...Adames is a top 25-50 prospect in baseball, and would be a strong get, if not for the prospect overlap. The other prospect I have seen linked to a potential deal in Brent Honeywell, who has unfortunately been shut down with elbow issues after tearing through the FSL in the early stages of this year....the level of seriousness of the injury is up for debate, but it does concern me. So I have to conclude no easy answers come from the Rays farm and multi-team deals have become very rare...that said, the Rays have some very valuable pieces, a chance to contend in a weak AL East, and a definite need at catcher
  4. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/15924604/vanderbilt-commodores-pitcher-donny-everett-dies-drowning-accident Tragic.....would have been a quality pro..... Crazy how 29th and 30th round picks pass away...horrid
  5. The Mets handling of the Wheeler/Flores/Gomez fiasco may preclude this deal from going down but with Wright being sidelined indefinitely, Aaron Hill and the full amount remaining on his contract should go to the Mets for Rafael Montero. Montero is a guy at 25 that has had setbacks and has met with only moderate success in the hitter friendly AAA PCL. However the fact that heis stymied but the Mets rotational depth and the fact that his stuff still flashes as a starter makes him very interesting....I think Hill has played well enough to suggest himself as a Murphy type that can get hot and make a difference, though with Arcia's ascension/Villar's move to 3rd his future value to us is muted.
  6. Newberg and Morris - 2 of the biggest writers on the Rangers scene have been talking back and forth tonight about a thought/rumor in which The Brewers would trade Lucroy and Carter for Tate/Gallo/ and the contract of Fielder, which is a big amount to eat - $110 million bucks thru 2020 - and it should be noted that Prince has been a shadow of himself this year - a .194 average and .555 OPS
  7. Hernan Perez is actually pretty darn athletic...On the Braves telecast last night (since I live in Charlotte) the announcers were marveling how he was faster than Villar on the bases as he was running out his triple
  8. It is almost like Hader was talking directly to Young geezy in his quotes after the game: (I think he is being handled just fine by Brewers) "I really haven't had a stretch like this before," Hader said. "I really believe participating in the [Arizona] Fall League helped me to redefine my mechanics and my pitches. The biggest thing for me was to remember that feeling from the fall and to carry it over to the season. "That being said, it's been a process. Early in the year, I was having a hard time getting past the fourth inning. Since then, I've made an effort to get contact earlier in the count as opposed to trying to strike everybody out and doing too much. The strikeouts will come and I don't need to make every pitch perfect." Right now we're at a pitch count of about 90," the Maryland native said. "When you're feeling good, you always want to get that extra inning in. There have been a few times when I finished the sixth at around 80 pitches and I wanted to get out there for a little more. But down here, you're building yourself up to play in the big leagues. The goal is to stay healthy and trust in the process so when you do get to the Majors, you're ready to go." Oh, and please read that Diplan piece....very good
  9. love those video links on Biloxi game...Phillips is just a full-on nutball......he is going to get some Carlos Gomez like hate from opponents if he keeps it up in majors....plays the game with a huge amount of joy
  10. this is the scumbag that continues to rail on Gomez after Carlos fought back, yet this Kaplan dip still will not address his comments....A tremendous coward
  11. Wow, thank you for calling this to our attention....had not heard of this...Gomez is 100 percent correct to be pissed...the writer is bushleague...would have never done this to a player ops'ing above 800
  12. Holy smokes - that was some impressive hustle and speed by Maverick Phillips
  13. Milone is on waivers and Brewers could pick him up for free if they assume his contract. Milone has mediocre numbers this year though his k rate is still good....his numbers over last few years are slightly better than Chase Anderson....this type of pickup would allow us to trade Peralta if there is a market while not having to rush an arm that is not ready
  14. It might be Jorge Ortega....the guy has still not allowed a walk in 23 innings, and while he has marginal stuff his zone placement might play ok in a 5th starter role
  15. I never agree with Briggs, but Schwarber's swing looks a ton like Babe Ruth's swing...who knows what his results will eventually be, and he did hit just .243 last year, but I hate that he is out for the year because I really loved watching that kid swing - it was/is a special stroke.
  16. Just to reiterate what we are watching with Giannis - he now has the most triple doubles by a player under 22 other than Magic Johnson in NBA history
  17. We are 33,000 and change away from registering the 1,000,000 post on this site. I was wondering if we wanted to have some fanfare with this event? It would be nice if we could have a brewerfan prize package attached to the person that gets the millionth post (if this can even be determined)...I would think the even would happen sometime in May.
  18. If you do not laugh to the point of tears when you hear Maverick Phillips laughter you are not human......it is amazing.....i may actually become MaverickPhillipsfan http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/370333781.html
  19. As the season approaches rapidly, I just wanted to revive this....I think that the link report this year is going to be insane, and the increased popularity of flagpolesitting our milb system indicates to me we need to value our resources as Brewer fans and not double up our work..... D of U and brewcrewball do a nice job on the daily minor league reports as well, but the discussion of each days events is amazing on this site - a 35 post thread on any given day on the merits of Dustin Houle's athleticism speaks for itself I don't want this idea to get buried if it does have some legs- i thing merging, or at least coordinating resources seems like a worthy effort
  20. No.No.No.No No.No. I will not have brewers4eric, who is brilliant typically, bail on this rebuild.....I will not allow it.....boomer on the other hand- go for it man - I can give you several other team's fanboards you can start visiting.... But brewers4eric, please reconsider your feelings of resignation that this season will suck majorly
  21. It depends which syllable he accents in his last name...if it is the latter, the teacher in me prefers his nickname to be Green Eggs....
  22. EBAT, who has become one of my all time favorite contributors here raises a great point...this is just the first initial step in Stearns plan....Guys like Cameron see the tide turning with smart trades....these deals are not one sided...in fact I love Khrush for Oakland...they are just smart deals that increase talent AND fill needs
  23. Why does anyone really argue with Briggs? He is a smart Brewer fan but is entrenched in his viewpoints....this is an amazingly efficient rebuild with the understanding that rebuilds are not perfect animals and they can fail despite the best workings of their puppetmasters....it is not hard to see.
