  1. I don't see anybody on the Knicks that I'd want, unless we can turn this into a salary dump involving Gadz or maybe even Redd. But the Knicks won't take on salary for 2010.
  2. For me, its really appears to be just Bruce Seid that doesn't like Gallardo. He pitches like an #1 starter in my game, and other GMs seem to like him. Weird thing I noticed last night: I needed some additional outfielders for my Class A squads, and actually found some really good hitting pitchers (like AAA level, ratings-wise) available late in the draft. I'm experimenting with changing their positions, to see if they can be useful players. edit: wow, this game is awfully realistic. I signed Ben Sheets to a minor league deal. He came back from injury, pitched a couple games in AAA, and I called him up after I had an injury to one of my other starters. He makes 3 very good starts, and asks for a contract extension. Give him 2 years + team option, and the very next day, he gets goes down with bone chips in his elbow. Only out for the rest of the season, but still...
  3. What?? How could anyone think that such a cute and cuddly pomeranian is ugly?
  4. Definitely. Take him now, before he starts getting too wiggly. My son is 18 months old, and I can't take him to games unless we plan on hanging out in the play area the entire time. Last year though, he was great - just sat on my lap the entire time.
  5. If he's not showing up for workouts for people who are interested in paying him, I have to suspect that he has nothing left and is waiting for someone to gamble without having seen him pitch (no idea if the Phillies had or not).
  6. But all pitchers had only one PA combined last night. I'd think say that having the pitchers "bat" in the All-Star game would create more pinch hit opportunities for other players, if anything.
  7. Huh, I thought the whole point in selling the team was to avoid something like this. The Cubs are worse than GM. Your 2010 Chicago Cubs: We're not going out of business, we're getting down to business.
  8. I can't think of any better ideas. Deciding home field by team record doesn't work, because there are so few common opponents. Record against common opponents would be ok, but most years there won't even be any. The All-Star game is better than flipping a coin IMO.
  9. Comedy "flowbee" option? Well, it certainly does suck.
  10. Yikes. I'm sure its a cool experience and everything, but I never thought I'd see so much marketing-speak from a barbershop. I felt like I was reading a BOSE catalog.
  11. I have a soft spot for GIANT Pomeranians. http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/dsc_0627.preview.jpg
  12. But those are so informative! "Hey guys this is chef Jerry Garcia today we're going to make some delicious PIGGLY WIGGLY bratwurst first we fire up the grill and then put the brats on the grill. Let it sit a few minutes and then MMMMM we have some delicioius PIGGLY WIGGLY bratwurst!" I swear Bill Schroeder did some grilling promos a few years ago from the exact same kitchen/deck. I'm convinced that they're actually at Bill's house.
  13. Prince is definitely under control until 2011, but its not obvious to everyone. Last week I emailed a local sports talk show about potentially trading him, and mentioned that he was under our control for two more seasons after this. The host read my email, and stopped and said something like "first off, that is wrong" after reading that part. So yeah, not everybody gets it.
  14. I'll admit that my post was based on a very, very big "if". Matt Cain (career WHIP higher than Dave Bush, to put things into perspective) alone wouldn't get it done for me, so I would expect at least another player in addition. Unless they're willing to part with Lincecum, the Giants probably aren't the best trade partner.
  15. I agree, but I'm still a little concerned. I've thought many times about trading Prince for a top-of-the-rotation starter, and then finding scrap-heap, AAAA mashers like this guy to play 1B until another prospect takes over. Not saying I'd definitely do that, but I do feel like 1B is a very easily replaceable position.
  16. I noticed that Evans didn't even bring the ball up the court for the Kings every time. He very well could end up at SG. Jennings was awesome. He's playing like a true PG, and not an Iversonesque undersized SG that a lot of people expected. Johnson had his best game so far, and Alexander had possibly his first good game as a Buck - he was actually making his shots, and was a lot more sure-handed in both possession and grabbing rebounds. His positioning (particularly on defense) still needs work, but overall an encouraging sign. Back to Jennings - his shooting mechanics really need some help. I have no idea what it would take to tear it down and teach him to shoot the right way, but if the Bucks' coaches can do it, this guy could be unstoppable. The fact that he can be reasonably effective with his goofy middle school shot is actually kind of impressive, in a weird way. I know I should step back and remind myself that this is just the summer league, and they're playing against guys who will be bagging groceries in a month, but I can't help but get excited about the upcoming sason.
  17. Beane: YOU CAN'T HANDLE STEALING BASES!
  18. Jennings looked very good. He could have had a bunch more assists too, he had some nice passes that resulted in missed wide-open jumpers that an average NBA player probably would have made. What really impressed me is that he looked like he was still trying to work on stuff (jump shooting and distribution, particularly), so he played well despite not showcasing his biggest strength (attacking the rim). He sort of looks like a middle school kid when he shoots from long range, but hey, whatever works. I also have some hope for Alexander, since his biggest weakness IMO is basketball IQ, and that is something that hopefully will come with experience. Despite his age, he still hasn't been playing the game as long as most rookie/second year players. He desperately needs to play, whether that's with the Bucks or in the D-League. That all said, he's been really bad, to the point that I almost feel bad for him.
  19. I hope they keep the ghost-jedi Bill James thing. So ridiculous, it goes all the way back to being good.
  20. I personally think that Chewbacca if he played for the Brewers is a better 3B, but to be fair his sample at the major league level is still pretty small.
  21. I'm guessing they didn't show Alexander's airballed dunk attempt. He was pretty frustrating to watch...if you don't count his miserable shooting, he actually looked like a great player to me. Unfortunately, shooting is kind of important.
  22. I'm convinced that Richard Kessler is the biggest jerk in the world, and I'll never shop at his store. Also, any Miller radio commercial that is supposed to match up with their TV ads, but the voices are completely different, and they always overexplain the joke.
  23. Jim Paschke tweeted earlier that former Bucks announcer Eddie Doucette is calling 8 of the games, so I'm guessing at least some of the internet feeds will have commentary. I suspect that those ones might be on NBATV as well. As for the rest, I haven't heard anything specific.
