  1. In some ways, I almost wish the Brewers were bad again. It was more fun to be overly excited and optimistic about Jim Rushford and Pete Zoccolilo than to curse the names of Mike Burns and Claudio Vargas.
  2. I'll guarantee that he's a worse centerfielder than Gerut.
  3. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that his avatar photo doesn't have ©s and ®s and TMs all over it. The Brewers' logo does, though. Its probably not likely, but the club or MLB could send out legal threats if the logo is used without authorization. JimH5 wasn't trying to be rude or anything, its definitely worth noting.
  4. Now, I'm normally a pretty positive guy, but to expect that Chase Wright would outperform Dillard or Burns is hopelessly optimistic IMO. As fans, we like to see changes when something isn't working, but I just don't think we can realistically expect much better - more likely, the alternatives will be worse. Anyway, Burns isn't as horrible as most people make him out to be. He has pretty good control and he strikes people out - that's usually a better indicator of future success than showing no control and not being able to strike anybody out (like Dillard and Wright this season).
  5. He's just not very good as a starter. For awhile, I thought he might be able to be a poor man's Dave Bush, but since being moved back to the AAA rotation, he can't strike anybody out, and he's lost some control. He was alright as a short reliever last year, and that's probably where his major league future lies, if he has one. Personally, I thought Josh Butler had the best shot of any pitching prospect of joining the rotation this year, but he's on the DL now.
  6. for AA LHP Aaron Thompson. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9875596 Hmm...I guess if we would have gone the "trade Fielder for pitching" route, we could have gotten a replacement for approximately Donovan Hand.
  7. I don't see what the big deal is. Somebody has to pitch. This move doesn't mean that we're sellers or buyers, just that we needed to fill a roster spot due to injuries. And standing pat isn't the worst thing - it could just mean that there weren't any worthwhile deals on the table. Plus, we could still take the division with 85 wins, and get hot in time for the playoffs.
  8. What does anonymity of the web have to do with anything? Does everyone have to say "My name is XXX and I live at YYYY, in case you disagree and want to beat me up. Here is my opinion:" before they say anything? Anyway, I never said that this was done for fame or to further her career or anything like that. I suspect that she knew the person who taped it (because they were likely in the room), and probably knew that the taping was going on. She probably did *not* expect or want it to end up on the internet. My suspicion is that ESPN people saw this, asked her if it was real, and then freaked out and tried to start doing damage control stuff before there was even an issue (thus, inadvertently creating the ordeal in the first place). They came up with this silly peephole/find the real killers story to protect her image when they probably didn't need to do anything. They'll probably be quiet about it from here on, now that they've realized their error. I don't really see how the video could have been shot 1) through a peephole, and 2) completely without her knowledge. I don't see how they could just conveniently "not know" which hotel it is or where it was. But really, this is all speculation, so who knows. Not much in this story makes any sense.
  9. I think you're doing a good job of this, but its hard to tell for someone just taking a quick glance. The subjects and first few sentences of the posts kind make it sound like you're re-reporting news that people can easily find elsewhere. I can see that you're not doing this, so maybe try to make the titles less news-y, and go into the opinion part from the start?
  10. No, but do we know that that these guys were really standing next to the house and peering in? "Outside my window" could mean a lot. It sounded to me like they were still in the car parked on the street. People park on the street while sitting in the car in front of my house all the time, and they've never bothered me. But then why get lawyers involved, and why draw attention to yourself by saying stuff like "hay guys i'm the naked video girl thats all over the news!!!" to a 911 operator? Nobody cared about any of this a few weeks ago, and most of the people who saw the video probably assumed it was someone who looked like her. I don't think it was "staged" (as in, she intended to have it posted on the internet) but having seen the video, I don't buy the peephole explanation one bit. If she didn't want it to be a big deal, the obvious solution is to not talk about it. Yeah, it seems to me that some ESPN PR people found out about the video and got worried, tried to be proactive and presented this peephole theory, and then realized after the fact that they only made things worse. I suspect that this story will just die down eventually.
  11. I did have problems getting the Brewers feeds live when I was living in Minnesota, but had a WI billing address on your credit card. But that was in 2003, and I've heard reports saying that this isn't the case anymore. YMMV.
  12. Coffey, DiFelice, Stetter, Hoffman, and to some extent, Gallardo? Everyone else is right around where they should have been expected to be.
  13. Also, keep in mind that last year, the Mariners were desperate to get rid of Washburn - they couldn't even give him away. Now he's suddenly worth trading Hardy or Weeks for? I'd take him, but not for that much money/assets.
  14. I remember seeing his videos on youtube a long time ago, and I thought they were hilarious. I'm just amazed that a TV network hired him for their broadcasts. "So, what do you do for a living?" "I impersonate batting stances!" Its awesome and ridiculous at the same time.
  15. You can't make trade opportunities appear out of nowhere. This isn't like a video game where you can trade Bill Hall and Mike Rivera for Cliff Lee. The other GM has to want players that we're willing to give up, and that's not always easy. And Mike Burns is probably better than Jeff Suppan...at least Burns can strike people out once in awhile.
  16. No HILARIOUS jokes about leaks in the roof? I'm disappointed.
  17. Wait, she called 911 because a car was parked outside? Sometimes there are cars parked on the street in front of my house, should I be calling 911 too? ...
  18. I'm surprised to hear how much teams are allegedly willing to give up to get Jarrod Washburn. Last year, Seattle was desperate to get rid of him, and couldn't even give him away. Could Bedard be a PTBNL too?
  19. Is Suppan really below replacement level? Wow, the bar must be set pretty high. He's below average surely, but I have my doubts as to whether that level of production is readily available off the street. edit: wow, I hadn't looked at his numbers that closely. Didn't realize he's been that bad.
  20. He did bring in Nick Green and Chase Wright, both of which I thought were very good acquisitions - I always like to see a AAA rotation made of players in their mid-20s with something to prove. Green was injured for a bit and hasn't pitched well, but has had some very good games here and there. Wright has been consistently mediocre, but at least he provides a little more depth.
  21. Last year, I had a dream where in the last game of the season, the Brewers quietly activated Derrick Turnbow without announcing it to the media. The Brewers needed to win to make the playoffs, had a 1 run lead over the Cubs, and the Cubs managed to load the bases with no outs in the 9th. Dale Sveum came out to the mound and signalled to the bullpen for a righty. The door opened, Metallica came on over the PA, and Turnbow appeared out of nowhere to strike out the side and preserve the win. Turnbow then announced his retirement after the game, Chet Steadman-style, and elevated himself to legend status.
  22. How about Prince Fielder, Craig Counsell, Casey McGehee, Rickie Weeks, most of the bullpen, and anyone else who has exceeded expectations? Does the manager get credit for those? Fact is that all players can have good years and bad years, regardless of coaching staff. If they didn't, everybody would know who will win each division at the beginning of the season.
  23. and hoping for another Doug Davis-type nugget mining. edit: by that, of course, I mean 2003 scrap-heaper-turned-ace Doug Davis.
  24. How many games did we win by many runs when Sabathia pitched? You really have to take the average of all of those, its impossible to predict the scores of individual games.
  25. Villanueva hasn't pitched more than 3 innings in a long time, so it isn't surprising that he got hit hard in his 4th inning. Dillard has shown that he can be very good in middle relief, and very bad in a starting role, so I'm not surprised that he didn't do well in extended innings. Next time through the rotation, Villanueva should be able to pitch a little deeper into the game, which is good - now we might need both of them to start.
