  1. Is it? I suppose Hart could crash like he did last year. I truely believe the real Bill Hall is back. Weeks could regress to his career norms, but I doubt it, I don't even think he as hot as he could get. Cameron is already just 1 Value Win from Fielders entire 2008 total, and its May 1st.
  2. Another night of Hardy rally killing on a night Hall doubles and walks. Make the switch Ken.
  3. I think Machca was just saying Salome was injured so much in spring training he never got a meaningful look at him. You can't evaluate a player in his 1st game back after an injury, and that was pretty much Angels entire spring, as he got re-injured a couple times.
  4. Well we can't quantify actually making the playoffs, its easy to see the impact it has had on our payroll. If we never traded for CC, we wouldn't have the payroll we have.
  5. Prince will have fewer value wins than everybody but the catcher this year. Prince plays a position anyone could play, well, except him. Who is this equivilent talent your replacing others with?
  6. As a mid market team, we can't pay players what their worth, as that worth includes what the Yankees and Red Sox pay players. Our players need to be bargains, and Fielder will be the 2nd worst dollars per production players in our lineup next year, besides the catchers, and that could become debatable.
  7. I agree Fielder will pick up the pace on offense, and have a season similar to last year. However, he was worth just 2.6 Value Wins last year. If we pay $10.5 million, plus another $500 K for his PA incentive, for under 3 Value Wins next year, that isn't a good deal for a mid market team.
  8. Wang isn't dead, he'll find himself again. I'd rather have Wang than Suppan, but I'd much rather have Cameron/Suppan than Duffy/Wang. Cameron is very valuable, and we don't have a replacement close to him yet.
  9. Try looking at a spray chart before being so condescending. Hall has always been a dead pull hitter against righties. His spray charts from 2005-2006 look exactly like his spray charts from 2007-2008. The difference is in 2005-2006, Hall had the batspeed to turn on inside pitches with authority. Then he decided to bulk up when moved to the OF. That ruined him, because he lost batspeed and couldn't jerk pitches middle in. Hall has lost the bulk got his batspeed back, and looks like the guy he used to be, the one the earned this contract. Like I said earlier, his swing will never look pretty, but its effective. Combined with his defense, and you have one of the most valuable players on the team. Hall is on pace for over 4.6 value wins this year. Thats outstanding. His contract is a bargain. Fielder is the bad salary in this lineup next year, not Hall. Hall is Adrian Beltre for half the money.
  10. Theres nothing we can do to get Hardy out of his slump, but we can switch him in Hall in the order so Hardy stops killing rallies, only to see Hall leadoff the next inning with hits, including HRs. Hall is back, lets use him.
  11. Congrats to Carlos Corporan. I stated a few years ago that he would someday be a big league backup, and here he is. I would prefer Corporan to other backups like Koyie Hill or Paul Bako. Corporan is very good defensively, and he's become more patient at the plate. Hopefully he can become a latebloomer at the plate and earn a bigger role here. I fully expect Corporan to get the start catching Bush on Sunday. I'l be there, and I'll give him a big hand.
  12. Sorry guy, I should have referred to it as post #81. Then I should adjust my setting to 50 a page. That does sound more convenient.
  13. Battlekow posted this on page 5, and he also posted how Totalzone is calculated for the minors. Be sure to read that, as it admits its calculated from very incomplete data, and since their is no other stat to compare it to, there no way to check its accuracy. Its great to have this as a loose guideline for minor leaguers, but it shouldn't be taken as factual as UZR is for major leaguers, or even as Totalzone for major leaguers.
  14. Thats awesome stuff tri. This offense becomes truely awesome as Braun evolves into a bigtime OBA guy.
  15. I like Cameron too, but where is this money coming from? If we pick up Loopers option, and let the FAs walk, we're at $90 million for next year.
  16. That OF may not be as good defensively as this one, but would still be solid if you believe in the UZR stat, which I do. Hart career UZR/150 is very good when playing CF. I think he tracks flyballs better in CF than RF. Braun is playing much better defensively this year, as we would expect, and his UZR/150 is +14 this year. He would fit very well in RF. Gillespie is reliable with solid range for a LF.
  17. I thought it was Fielders inability to scoop a throw that jinxed him.
  18. The play Hall made in Bush's no-hit attept was as good as any play I've seen a 3B make. Hall is definately benifitting from losing the weight he lost this past offseason, and he looks like a guy who could easily play SS right now. Hall hadn't had alot of experience at 3B, and its a position where you need experience to quicken the reaction time. Hall should be considered for the gold glove, and highlight reel plays like the one thursday will get him into the discussion.
  19. Agreed. Usually the box score will double credit a caught stealing, calling it both a CS and a PO, but the game recap reveals Maldonado actually picked the Dunedin leadoffman off 1st in the 1st inning with a snap throw, then threw him out trying to steal 2nd in the 4th.
  20. The problem with Peavy, as pointed out in the Peavy thread, is after you curve his stats for park effects and figure in age regression, we wouldn't be getting a top pitcher. Then theres the no-trade clause factor. To convince Peavey to waive his no-trade clause to come to Milwaukee, he'd likely want that $22 million option for 2013 picked up. Thats an absolute deal breaker.
  21. Jim Callis calls this his favorite trivia question: Which HOF was quickest to 100 wins?
  22. I love everything about the TWS Timberratler broadcast except that they don't give any radar gun readings. Pedro Lambertus appeared to throw gas, as was reported last year. Lambertus has the typical power pitchers build, with a very thick lower half. When I watch Mike Marseco, I think "this must be what Craig Counsel looked like".
  23. I'd say the odds of getting to at least 7 wins is pretty good right now, especially considering the pitchers we face in Houston. Russ Ortiz is terrible, and Felipe Paulino isn't much. Mike Hamton is competitive, but we eat up lefties, especially ones without a great change-up.
  24. Brauns chances per game are low because he was taken out for defense. If you play fewer innings per game, you will have fewer chances. I did say Gamel is a better defender than Braun. This question is more about how soon you think Gamel will be tollerable defensively than how he compares to Braun, as being better defensively than Braun doesn't mean anything. Also, you can't use chances per game as a useful stat, because it doesn't take into account things like a pitching staffs K rate or ground ball tendencies.
  25. With the option, Looper gets extra guaranteed money because of the buyout. However, with the mutual option, the Brewers are off the hook for the buyout if Looper declines from his end.
