  1. I don't mean to be facetious at all when stating that Frank wasn't keeping his last guy on the bench. Rather, he was sending up the better hitter. Alvarado is a statue at the plate, Saenz can drive the ball(as he has already proved this year). As far as the absolutely disappointing Snapper ending, Guilder got a case of the "yips" when we were one out away from winning a game despite giving up 17 hits. Bases loaded bottom of the ninth with two outs. A slow roller is hit to Guilder's right. He seemed to be in between wanting to tag the runner going to second, flip the ball to SS or throwing out the runner at 1B. He bobbled the ball and accomplished neither. On the very next pitch, ball hit to his left by a fast runner. If he squares his body to 1B, he gets the guy. Instead, he hurries the throw and sends a palmball past Ramirez. Earlier in the game(and, I almost hate to go down this path), Rodriguez should have been given another error on a soft hit one-hopper that he mishandled. Moss lost a ball in the lights that eventually lead to a run. Anderson got picked off first with nobody out, only to see Palmisano and Rottino get consecutive hits afterward. That really hurt. It was a game we should have won in spite of ourselves, but didn't. It really stung as the three teams in front of us all lost. Better luck tomorrow. Good night.
  2. I would have to agree with you on Scarborough. I always liked his defensive ability. Now, they have him playing 3B. In the past, he has played 2B very well and Ok at SS. This makes him potentially valuable to a National League organization. If we were still in the AL(not you, but the league)http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif , I would say he probably would much less value.
  3. I was very impressed with his live arm last year during my trips to Huntsville. However, he seemed to tire after 5 or 6 innings, perhaps due to his slender build. Nice to see him post 10K's and go 7 innings.
  4. I have been thinking that it might be wise for the organization to flip flop Ozzie and Enrique. Ozzie is doing well, and given his "power," he shouldn't have very inflated HD numbers. Cruz, on the other hand, needs to experience some success to regain confidence. Anyone else feel the same way?
  5. Ty Taubenheim provides another Billy Koch-like save.
  6. Other than injury, I don't think there can be any other explanation. I told my wife Saturday at MP that Adams and Hendrickson should be brought up relatively soon. I admittedly do not understand all of the Super 2 implications. Therefore, I thought it would be a little later than sooner.
  7. Hopefully, this game gives Mossy the confidence he needs to get back on the right track. I talked to him after Sunday's Kane County games and he sounded like a young kid who lost his beloved pet. He was very down on the world despite missing a double by a few feet. It appeared to me he was sorely in need of something positive for his frame of mind. He has the talent.
  8. Greg must either be sent back for EST or used strictly in mop-up roles until he can prove to be anything close to effective. I know coming into the season there was alot of board love for this guy. Why? Kloos spent the whole day(2 innings) dealing belt high off-speed pitches that got hammered all over the park. His previous two starts were equally grusome. Snapper rotation should be Eveland, Montalbo, Pena, Morreira and Villaneuva(in about that order). We are a month into the season. I think it is past the time of scrapping the piggyback system. Case in point: Morreira pitches strong six innings on Saturday and as a result, Eveland(our best pitcher) throws three innings and won't be seen for a week. That's ridiculous!
  9. Been thinking of that myself Roco. BTW, I have been so busy lending money and finishing a remodeling project that I haven't posted for about a week. I need to get to bed soon!
  10. Greg, I got to know him reasonably well last year. He was an outfielder most of his college career until his coach encouraged to become a pitcher. Unquestionably, he doesn't throw as hard as say Sarfate. However, he is generally around the plate. Bottom line: he hasn't spent a great deal of time as a pitcher. Therefore, I'm not sure what to expect from him.
  11. Given their respecitve ages, the Brewers might want to consider swapping JDLR and Paul Stewart. Just a thought.
  12. Yeah, MB, I was just telling the wife tonight that I thought 11-15 was very respectable for a team that, for the most part, is devoid of prospects. It's nice to see Hinton adjusting well to life at 1B. As far as my beloved Snappers are concerned, what is up with the pitching staff? Good gracious, is Kloosterman turning into a left-handed Carpenter? His last two starts have been abysmal to be kind. I would much rather see a guy get HIT, than walk numerous batters. The upcoming homestand features the top two teams in the standings and they need to do well against at least one of them to have a shot at a first-half playoff spot. No time like the present to start getting things shored up.
  13. A nine-year veteran of minor league baseball playing for a pitching poor team(meaning HD, in particular) in high class A. He's gotta be on the savior list.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Nice catch Toby. Villaneuva is listed with five appearances and four starts. He has only pitched four times. Conversely, Pena has started three times. Something is very wrong with the numbers. Plus, Villaneuva gave up 4 runs in five innings last night and his ERA(early in the season, mind you) was raised to 4.56. In all honesty, I don't think the Snappers as a team have given up less than five runs during any one of his starts and he has usually been in the game for most of them. Hence, my concern for him. Also, Beloit has several options(Durost and Dillard, for example) that could take his spot with better results.
  15. Is the earth rotating properly when Kade goes 4-4 and, of all people, Luis Martinez gets a crucial hit, all in the same night? I think I will sleep with one eye open tonight.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Madbad, just curious what your thoughts on Villaneuva. I personally thought of this start as a crucial appearance for him. Statistically, he did not fare well against a poor hitting team. It may be time to demote him to the pen or send him back to extended spring training. He has yet to put together a decent outing. What do you think? Also, I really like Robby Deevers. He is one of the few Snappers who has the ball jump off his bat(others would be Palmisano and Anderson). He has a cannon for an arm in right. He made an absolutely perfect throw to home during the last home game against Peoria about a week ago that saved a run and forced extra innings. Personally, I would love to see him play more and/or be the DH. Madbad, was the wind blowing out again tonight? Drew normally doesn't elevate the ball enough to hit one out. Just curious if he got a line drive into a jet stream. Thanks for your input.
  16. Actually, I just wasn't impressed with Rottino's swing. If you watch him from behind, he falls off to right field(doesn't come straight at the pitcher). Watching him from my normal 3B dugout vantage point gave the appearance of someone with an off-balance swing. I must now amend that to say he basically has a right-field stroke. I think he can be hurt with inside pitches. In fact, during his first at-bat yesterday, he got tied up with a inside fastball for strike three. No question, though, the kid has proven he can provide some pop. Yeah, Terry, can hit the ball out of the infield, but he has been up against some pretty bad lefties the last couple of days. I'm going to leave the jurors in the room on him. The Snappers have played one good team(Lansing) so far and didn't fare well overall and offensively. If they plate some runs against Cedar Rapids and Kane County(current division leaders) during a mid-May homestand, I will officially(happily) backoff on my stance on their offense. Actually, Murray's injury has "helped" the team in that Acosta, who began on the bench, is a far superior offensive player. I hate to say Moss' injury helped, as well, but gosh you can't help but improve upon the numbers he was providing. Long story short, today's Snapper team is a little different/better from the one that played on days one and two.
  17. Since I have been ripped(perhaps too strong of a word) for being down on Gwynn, it is nice to know his own dad thinks he has major flaws in his swing. I described it as pigeon-toed, he said too far out in front. Basically, we are coming at it from the same angle. It is very difficult to drive the ball the way he hits.
  18. Roco, that better not be your indirect way of saying Hooters is more important than the Snappers.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  19. You guys really have my envy being at the game on Saturday. I try really hard to make the debuts of former Snapper players(like Hall, Pember, Childers of recent memory). Unfortunately, spring cleaning duty called and by the time we were done(for the day, anyway) it was too late and opted for the later-starting Snappers. I have to honestly say I would not have envisioned Saenz doing that based on his second half performance at Beloit. He made the MWL All-Star team, but his stats didn't scream prospect at you. In an instance like this, I love being wrong and look forward to being able to congratulate him down south in a month.
  20. Believe me, Roco, I will. However, COLD beer is the last thing on my mind on a day like Saturday or Sunday. I had a few hot chocolates instead.
  21. Dana did an excellent job in his piggyback stint on Saturday. His pitches have a ton of movement(cover the whole plate) and he was throwing consistent strikes.
  22. I hope everybody had as much fun as can be expected given the circumstances. Had we done the typical 50/50 raffle, I would have been able to meet you. I was next to the "Rizzos" trying to stay warm near the press box. Met some at Culvers after the game. And, yes, the T-Rats starter was bad as was his successor. In fact, the whole team is rather bad. In last night's game, they sent TWO guys to the plate with averages over .225 and the highest one hit a mighty .250. Five of their six wins are at the expense of one team(Burlington). It's going to be a long year in App-le-ton.
  23. Actually, they play on Tuesday, as well. Need to get tomorrow's game before getting our brooms out.
  24. Any of the Gwynn supporters care to reopen those comparisons to Krynzel??
  25. Why do I have to be at work when I could be at a 4 1/2 hour baseball game?
