  1. Please take this the way it is intended, but "listening" to you by message board(not bored) is far more interesting than hearing Ron Santo.
  2. What compounds the issue Al is the fact that both were signed by the same division opponent. Even if we got a bag of balls in return, I guess it would be nice to know they couldn't hurt you in the future.
  3. For those who don't know, Knox not being able to wash his hair is a huge sacrifice. He is generally one of the last people out of the locker room and it is usually for grooming reasons.
  4. I find it rather funny that a kid(Macias) from a 2-8 team states no pitcher in the league will stop them. They haven't exactly lit up the Snappers the last two nights. I have a curiousity question for you boys about a possible change in the Brewers philosophy with minor league players at the upper levels. This question is borne out of our recent release of Matt Parker. I know darn well he is better than several of our Huntsville bullpen pitchers. He was a AA All-Star last year. Milwaukee could have easily have sent him to AA and replaced Rivard, for instance. Are we releasing our players strictly for THEIR sake upon making the in-house determination that the player cannot serve OUR major league team even though they could greatly help a minor league affiliate? While we will never know the true reasoning, that was supposedly the motivation for releasing Luis. I guess I just have a hard time accepting these players being released when Giron is allowed to float between AA and AAA at a much more advanced age. On the other hand, if we are supposedly doing things for the good of the individual, that is somewhat admirable.
  5. Senator, you asked about Eric Henderson. He has been plagued by various arm and shoulder injuries. He is basically a soft tosser(IIRC tops out in low to mid 80's) and has one of the best first base pickoff moves I have ever seen. Last year, during a Snapper game, he picked off two consecutive people and the first one was frozen stiff. Not that it matters for baseball purposes per se, but he is also a very intelligent kid.
  6. The angle that Pods took to the ball in deep center in the 8th was flat. It kind of reminded me how young kids try to catch a ball. Rather than running on an angle TOWARD the ball, he was running parallel WITH the ball. Unquestionably, it should have been caught. Since I never heard of Scott Posednik until last year, does anyone know if this has been a long-term rap and perhaps what kept him from the bigs since he doesn't have power to offset his mistakes?
  7. Considering they have had rainouts and days off(and no long extra inning games to my recollection), that is rather odd. It will be interesting to see how that goes for him. He doesn't have the type of repotoire you would associate with a starter.
  8. The Snappers front office is going to Fort Wayne this weekend to catch-up with Brian Schackow, former GM of Beloit now employed by the Wizards(from the "Where Are They Now?" category).
  9. If they are indiferrent to winning, who are we to look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth?
  10. He is but not starting. Morreira told me at Saturday's game that he and Dana were switching piggyback roles tonight.
  11. I realize we will soon be going to mostly night games, but speaking on behalf of all first-shifters many thanks for the play-by-play.
  12. Here's hoping Keith makes good use of that playing time.
  13. IIRC, John Santor of the Peoria Chiefs started in the MWL All-Star game last year instead of Prince Fielder. But, yet, he is back in low A and well, we know what Prince is doing. Just thought I would provide that tidbit of information.
  14. Madbad, the office staff has already started such a "pool"(I am going to assume no money involved)http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif and the pitchers were discussing the same topic on Saturday. One of them(will allow him to be anonymous) stated he would put the over/under at 13. I told him I would put it at 20, since I thought Lou was the only one who showed the ability to do so.
  15. Hey madbad, got a few questions for you. 1) I noticed Moss didn't strikeout. Was he more aggressive at the plate and did he hit the ball well during his outs? 2) How on earth did Guilder Rodriguez get three hits? He is Ralph Santana lite. I am going to assume at least one was by bunt. He tried on several occasions during the Quad City series. 3) Did Palmisano pull any balls during his hits or outs? During the QC series, everything went to right field. I agree with you on your assessment of Drew Anderson. He is a big kid who doesn't necessarily drive the ball, but hits line drives to all fields. I can only assume that Peoria must have played some long and/or extra inning games before coming to Beloit. At this stage of the season, you generally don't allow a guy to stay out long enough to get pounded for 11 hits over just four innings. It's nice to see you are high on Kloosterman, as Eveland and Montalbo certainly did a good job, as well, during the prior series. We could have a staff that gives us a chance to win every night. At the low class A level, that's not easy to come by. Lastly, I am hoping that I did fall victim to the small sample. This team did not look like a run-scoring team during the QC series. Time will tell.
  16. I wonder if the Pirates are still glad they took Bullington over Upton. My goodness, the Devil Rays are going to be at least competitive in the not too distant future. Like us, they are stocked with young position players and just need the pitching. Fortunately for us, we don't have evil empires in our division.
  17. I have to admit that I forgot about the infield defense when stating the Stars wouldn't win 100 games this year. But, boy, it is so good to see Nelson back to hitting for power. If we can get him and Krynzel to levels of expected performance, we will really have something. SOMEDAY, at the major league level, our future will be so bright, we'll have to wear shades(was that ZZ Top?).
  18. Perhaps, to ease him into things. But, given the way he is going, move him up.
  19. Madbad, you are correct. Dillard pitches(though I didn't confirm if he actually starts) on Tuesday, with Morreira and Eveland switching piggyback duties on Wednesday. If you recall, Eveland started the opener and Morreira followed him.
  20. In the Montgomery manager's defense, he found out he couldn't save 15% on his car insurance. He had to take it out on someone.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/pimp.gif
  21. Greg, I gotta admit you have me somewhat confused. The minor leagues aren't about performance, but the Brewers needs?? Then you go on to say it isn't about the Brewers covering their butts financially. Wouldn't the players performances supply and dictate their player and monetary needs? Therefore, wouldn't it behoove the Brewers to play the superior individuals? Therefore, wouldn't it behoove you, presumably as a Brewer fan, to care about the other minor league players. I think the organization has already made some statements to that degree by cutting such dead wood as Carter, Carpenter and Gold. It's not just the high rounders that shape the team's future and fortunes. Does the name Mike Piazza(56th round) ring a bell at all? Then it was brought up that others wanted Gwynn, therefore he is presumably good. Dare I remind you Packer fans plenty of people also wanted Tony Mandarich at one time. Perhaps, Jamal Reynolds should play since he is a first-round pick. I fully realize I am using football as my basis of comparison, but if the Patriots used your guys thinking they wouldn't have won two Super Bowls and Tom Brady wouldn't have been a two-time MVP of the game. Remember, Bledsoe was the first-round pick and long-time starter. However, Belichek, realizing there is a discernible difference between pay and production, stayed with the people who got him there. He realizes once contracts are signed that some will get paid more to do/produce less. When you go to work tomorrow, you will see at least one example of that rest assured. I believe Ryan Knox will someday don a major league uniform, just not for the Brewers. Why? He is absolute force on the base paths(you internet savvy people find me a small list of people who were more efficient stealing bases), tremendous bunter and go-getter in the outfield. He will never start, but will play as a 5th outfielder for some NL contender that realizes that his skills can win you late inning, one-run games that can make the difference between making or not making the playoffs. The Oakland A's of years past used an individual by the name of Herb Washington in much the same fashion.
  22. Bill, I am a little confused. The box score shows all of Parker's runs being earned. Can you help me out?
  23. BTW, I asked the president of the MWL if the entire league had off for Easter Sunday and he said yes. I also asked if they planned on doing this futuristically, to which he also responded in the affirmative.
  24. tyguy, I am actually glad you called me out on the carpet. It gave me a chance to re-evaluate the situation. I truly wish the organization would have drafted a POWER hitting corner outfielder with the second pick last year. We already have enough of the speed types. But, they didn't. Is that TG Jr's fault? No. He showed very little last year(and I have others in my corner on this) to merit a two-step jump to AA. Is that his fault? No. Even though Ryan Knox hit a three-run homer on Thursday and went 2-2 last night and has 3 SB's, Gwynn will unjustifiably start in his place once Nelson returns. Is that Tony's fault? No. Given the people we have playing the outfield at HD, there is no reason he couldn't have started there, allow Knox to play full-time, wait for a major league injury or some other happening before reshuffling the deck. Is that Tony's fault? No. Which begs the obvious question. Who's fault is it? Clearly, that falls on management. I mean, what, is he going to do cry if he is temporarily in HD on a losing team away from Prince and Rickie? That sounds like an enabling mother who says it is OK to knock all the candy off the racks as you are checking out of the store(and I'm not saying that's the case, but I think you get my point). My biggest beef with this whole situation is he is playing in place of someone who is more deserving. I went over this in the "high draft pick cuts" thread. IMHO, once the checks are in the mail and the contracts are signed, everyone should be considered equal. If the higher draft pick can play at least as well as the low round guy, I have no problem with it. When he can't, it raises my eyebrows. When I first graduated from college and started in the workfield, a wise sage twice my age told me about the "Golden Rule." His explanation was "he who has the gold, rules." Being the naive youngster I was, I didn't believe him. Now that I am unfortunately much older, I see what he means. It plays out in baseball, in much the same way in life in general. I still don't think it is right. tyguy, I am going to try real hard to place at least a two week moratorium on such statements about Gwynn. But, when he is playing and possibly failing, and Knox is riding pine, I am going to say something about it. Maybe, I will just need to direct my disgust away from Tony and toward the boys in suits.
  25. I will be in Beloit. With Easter, I have a busy weekend. It might be late Sunday or early Monday before I get back to you.
