  1. Interesting that Rogers got the call. Won't happen but would love to see him take over at 3B against RHP and play 1B against LHP, and relegate Ramirez to facing lefties only. I'd make one more move. I'd DFA Jimenez who apparently is in witness protection, and bring up Herrera who's got some useful skills and who is also off to a hot start. By the way Monty, Rogers has played more at 3B than he has at 1B so far this year at Colo. Springs so yeah, he's still considered a 3B.
  2. Gatewood with some positive signs the last few days!
  3. Until Parra produces better than the replacement level .257/.301/.375 he has so far in a Brewer uniform facing almost exclusively RHP, it's still a waste.
  4. Don't pay an additional $10 million to a washed up 3B. Don't pick up the option for the manager who oversaw a collapse of historic proportions or basically tell your GM that he has a job for life. Nobody paid the price for last year's collapse. Manager doesn't hesitate to bench a complimentary player a day or two for losing his cool after a bad AB like he did with Gennett, but does he ever bench a star/former star who makes a bonehead decision on the bases or in the field or who is frequently taking swings at pitches a foot off the plate?
  5. There is never any reason to play Ramirez in a day game after a night game.
  6. The leadership of this team holds nobody accountable, from the owner on down to the manager.
  7. Every team you play looks great by comparison when you aren't scoring, aren't hitting HR and are getting mediocre starting pitching and inconsistent bullpen work.
  8. I hate that comparison a lot. Scott was good the entire 2003 season, didn't fall off the face of the earth the next year, was a 70 steal guy(RARE), had some power....I mean let's be honest he was a well rounded player. Segura had two good months and slowly nose dived for over a year. Jean Segura has value, but he is about to be arbitration eligible and that all star appearance will inflate it. Podsednik went from hitting .314 in 2003 to .244 in 2004. That's a pretty significant drop for a guy without a ton of power and who wasn't a great centerfielder defensively either. I know Segura's drop off is fresher in everyone's mind but believe me there was plenty of negativity on this site's forum about Podsednik despite the 70 SB after his 2004 season, which was really brutal for the team. Podsednik was the leadoff hitter and after a .379 OBP in 03, it fell way down to .313 in 04. Segura's year wasn't that bad either taken in the context that offense around the entire league was down last year and the fact that he plays a key defensive position and is several years younger than Podsednik was at the time.
  9. Ramirez now has 2 HR in his last 218 AB's going back to August 1st of last year. Much of the defense of spending an extra $10 million to bring him back centered on them having no other alternative. Really?? There's not much that they can do about Braun where I think the jury is still out, but they could have walked away from Ramirez and tried to find at least a cheaper place holder and didn't.
  10. Brewers need one or two more controllable cheap arms to allow them to deal Garza this winter and make salary room for all out effort at Jordan Zimmermann or another of the many premier starters who'll be FA this year.
  11. Segura's drop off in 2014 doesn't affect his trade value as much as some suggest. It's similar to Scott Podsednik's situation a decade earlier. In 2003 Podsednik was 2nd in ROY balloting after posting an .822 OPS. The following year his BA dipped 70 points leading posters on this site to conclude he'd lost 90% of his trade value. Lo and behold he gets dealt for Carlos Lee. Say what you want about Lee, but he was a legit middle of the order hitter in his prime at the time. Teams wanting a young SS will discount his 2014 which in this day of pitching dominance probably wasn't as bad as it looked either. With Segura, Sardinas, Arcia, and even Rivera, the Brewers have an excess of young talented SS.
  12. The one guy on that list that I was surprised didn't make the Wisconsin roster and bypass Helena is Josh Torres. He had a terrific year for AZL Brewers in 2014.
  13. It's going to be tough evaluating the two guys worth following there, Rogers and Sardinas, both of whom are off to hot starts with the bat and who figure to put up good numbers. Rogers has a chance for inside track on 3B job in Milwaukee next year, but will monster numbers in that place equate? Hopefully, he'll be up by August and get a real look at the big league level.
  14. That wasn't just some run of the mill minor league pitcher that Arcia had his pair of doubles against. Robert Stephenson is the Reds #1 prospect on BA, and is rated between 16 and 24 overall by the major rating services. Nice that Brooks Hall outdueled him too. Excited about the futures of both Arcia and Sardinas.
  15. I know it's harsh but Ramirez is done and the sooner they realize it, the better. He is the worst cleanup hitter in the NL. He's now a singles hitter who can't run. In his last 27 games going back to last year, he has 5 extra base hits, 5 RBI and 2 Runs scored. When your cleanup hitter is accounting for one run scored or driven in every 4 games, you are in serious trouble. Colorado had 3 guys exceed that in one series.
  16. The depth issue is overstated. Depth can be traded for or picked up off the street. Brewers do have some players on their 40 man worth keeping an eye on that could help as soon as this season. I'm talking specifically about Rogers, Sardinas, and Clark. Thornburg has started successfully in the big leagues and there are any number of guys capable of stepping into his relief role. The problem with the Brewers is that in the past they dawdled removing ineffective starters who are getting paid. No way Garza gets removed any time, and Lohse likely would last into August as Wolf did several years ago.
  17. When a team stumbles like they did down the stretch last year, and management acts like either it didn't happen or it doesn't matter, then there certainly is a problem. On paper, this is a middle of the pack team. As with all middle of the pack teams, if a lot goes right, then they can contend but if a lot goes wrong, they can finish last. The fear is there's was no accountability for last year's failure so what incentives does this group have? When that happens you end up with a bunch of underachievers. Melvin's astonishingly sitting on a new contract too and Roenicke's had his 2016 option already picked up. They'll continue to make excuses if this team doesn't perform.
  18. Parra's WAR numbers are all based on defense and he skewed very high there in 2013, probably a bit of an outlier. He's basically replacement or just above replacement level offensively. You won't win with replacement level offensive production in a corner OF spot. They won't win with the 2014 version of Braun either, but lets give him a few months. I didn't say Sweeney or Presley were great players, just that offensively they are comparable to Parra. Parra and Sweeney have identical OPS+ of 94 for their careers and Presley is close with 92. Both got caught in numbers games but they have enough talent to be bench players in the big leagues as does Parra. Only $6+ million is a lot for even a quality bench player.
  19. I don't buy the lack of depth argument. They aren't tied to the guys who are currently on the bench being regulars if a starter goes down. They could and probably would go out and get a better option from elsewhere. There are also 3 guys in AAA that if they perform well enough, could be viable options to bring up just as they did with Gennett and Davis two years ago. That's Rogers, Sardinas, and Clark. All looked a lot bleaker in July 2013, and they played around .500 after Braun went down. They have one of the premier catchers in the game in Lucroy who's in his prime. I think Davis can get better too and I'm not pessimistic on Gennett at all. If Lohse is completely done, and I doubt that as he's had really bad outings before, Thornburg has had success starting in this league albeit over just slightly more than a handful of starts. Other guys at AA and AAA will have opportunities too. Sure if a bunch of key regulars go down, they can become this year's version of the 2014 Rangers. But that's true of any team.
  20. These guys best bet might be finding an indy league team.
  21. I tend to agree with you Boomer, though I believe Davis can take up some of the slack of a declining Ramirez and I think Segura should bounce back. They simply cannot afford losing Braun and/or Lind for 40+ games. It's very disturbing that they just simply acted as if the final 5 weeks of 2014 just didn't occur especially considering they had also a mini swoon in July.
  22. There is no way they contend replacing Braun in the lineup with Parra or Davis in the lineup with Parra or Gomez in the lineup with Parra. The offensive drop off is steep. Replacing Parra on the other hand with a cheaper option is pretty simple. Cubs just DFA'd Ryan Sweeney who's pretty much the same guy as Parra. Outfielders who can hit you .260 with very little power and some defensive skills aren't worth what they are paying Parra. Parra career: .274/.326/.395 .720 OPS. Brewers paying him $6.24 million for one year. Ryan Sweeney career: .276/.333/.380 .713 OPS. Cubs on the hook for $2 million including $500K buyout, unless he gets claimed. Astros just released another OF with similar skill set as Parra in Alex Presley (.259/.299/.395), who's set to earn $1 million this year.
  23. For all of you out there that claim Ramirez pads his stats in non pressure game situations, he's backing you up today so far.
