  1. Nothing in Blazek's past suggests he belongs on a major league roster. Not surprised in the least he's struggling.
  2. Maybe the new commish can invoke a slaughter rule into MLB. RR has set the leash at 7 runs for his starting pitcher. Whopee!
  3. Starting to get memories of the first Brewer game of all time a 12-0 shellacking at the hands of the Angels.
  4. This is starting to look like that start that essentially ended Hiram Burgos' major league career a few seasons back.
  5. What sense does it make to keep two long men in the pen if the manager isn't going to pull the starter after he allows 6 runs in 3 innings?
  6. There's such a fine line between success and failure for Lohse. If he doesn't have a feel for all his pitches, look out. Looks like one of those bad days for him so far.
  7. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sick of the Padres making deals. Padres are a real threat now.
  8. He could also be an option as a RH at 1B Quentin has never played 1B in his entire professional career. What makes him an option at 1B?
  9. The OF is nothing special. They just replaced Hermida, Mattison, Gindl, and Halton with 4 different AAA nomads. The lineup looks vulnerable to LH pitching.
  10. My preference is anywhere on the infield club level. Second choice is loge level. View is great from both, but you aren't fighting crowds in the club level.
  11. Negatives: Bad contract has 2 years and $24 million remaining. Coming off a bad year: .244/.287/.367, 10 HR, 60 RBI. 33 years old. Didn't have great spring. Positives: Primarily a 2B but has played 40+ games at 3B. Has flashed enough power to profile at 3B, even if down from peak power years. Has shown ability to bounce back from bad seasons. Followed up .665 and .655 in 2010 and 2011 with .878 and .818 in 2012 and 2013. Even in "bad" year in 2014, still had 39 extra base hits the exact same number as Aramis Ramirez in 2014. Provides veteran off the bench or as semi regular. Projected role if a Brewer: basically replace Luis Jimenez as extra guy floating between 3B, 2B and 1B and be primary RH pinch hitter. Probably at least 300 PA available for 2015, more if injuries dictate. Potential to be everyday 3B in 2016. I would think Arizona would need to pick up at least $15 million of that remaining deal. Not advocating but food for thought.
  12. I probably should have specified except for middle infielders who tend to keep rising if their gloves warrant and there are openings available. Gomez also had multiple years at AA.
  13. Have to agree with you on dropping most of last year's AAA team. It's not like the guys they dropped: Kentrail Davis, Halton, Gindl, and now Morris have had any trouble finding teams that wanted their services either. All are playing somewhere in AAA this season. Or that they had to make room for other guys coming up in the system. Or that the guys the Brewers signed were any better (they're not). In the case of Matt Clark though, I think he did show more than Morris last year.
  14. They never push a guy to AAA who hasn't succeeded to some degree at AA, and Richardson didn't meet that criteria. With Taylor, Wren and Reed all at AA, it left no room to keep him around for another AA try. He's going on 27. Hard to argue he hasn't gotten a chance.
  15. Schafer and Parra aren't the problems. The 100 or so PA's Schafer gets won't be make or break. He'll get a few hits here and there. Sure it would be nice if one or the other had a bit more power. The problem is the infield duo of Jimenez and Gomez. They are going to need a guy to play a lot between 3B and 1B. Jimenez projects to more like 300 PA and he's unproven. I'd really prefer a salty veteran in that role. They also might need those two against a tough lefty reliever late in games. I'm hoping Gomez doesn't play much. That means Gennett and Segura are producing. If either of those two get hurt and miss time, I would hope they'd call on Sardinas over Gomez.
  16. Not a real impressive group particularly the duo of Gomez and Jimenez in the IF who between them are a combined 38 for 167 (.228) in the big leagues. You would think Melvin could have come up with a tad more accomplished pair in the offseason to back up an aging 3B in decline, a SS coming off a subpar year and a 2B who's untested to this point vs. LHP. Not a real strong PH threat anywhere either. Parra's the only sub who's ever seen time as a regular in the big leagues. That's not say the bench won't turn out to be adequate but it's hard to look at it as a strength based on the track record of these guys.
  17. There's a dozen or more guys toiling at AAA with similar skill set to Morris every year. They aren't all that hard to find as the Brewers proved when they grabbed Clark last year. Morris is that prototypical lefty swinging 1B guy with some power that isn't quite good enough to crack the big leagues where to make it at 1B you have to be a very good all around hitter, not just a guy who'll pop an occasional HR.
  18. Well once Clark was optioned, it was a foregone conclusion that Morris would either be released or traded. That they got anything in return is a plus.
  19. "Ramirez looked slow, with his swing and in his walk" Ramirez is an old 36. Going to be hard to hide him if Roenicke insists on batting him cleanup.
  20. They can keep Herrera and Schafer by just releasing Hector Gomez. They already have two other SS besides Segura on the 40 man, both of whom will be at AAA. Herrera can play in a pinch but if they need one for injury replacement, just call up Sardinas.
  21. Morris' future (not in Brewer system, hardly "destroyed") seems to me to have been a foregone conclusion since Clark heated up in AAA last year. The entire AAA roster is left handed hitters as it is.
  22. Tough time for agents trying to find roster spots, even for former closers. Teams have little roster space available. Things will open up as they always do.
