  1. Two scoreless against the amazing Burke Badenhop? Did he go two scoreless at any point in a Brewer uniform?
  2. Of course they do, but they also started 2-8 last year but finished April 14-11. Yeah Yuni got hot if you recall and carried them for a couple weeks.....let's get some runs!
  3. JB starts the bring back Yuni thread No, Halton is my guy. Then again Yuni had a hot April last year, only he was playing 3B.
  4. I don't know but maybe the .324 batting average in 200+ AB last year And Mike Trout hit .220/.281/.390 in his first year. Small sample size. I take last year's numbers with a grain of salt. The dude doesn't walk, and pitchers won't be afraid to pitch to him because he has no power. His minor league numbers aren't all that impressive, a very empty .300. The pitcher has to miss the strike zone for him to walk. "No power?" Check the stats from last year. Hard to slug .479 in over 200 AB's with "no power".
  5. "it's only game four people" They were completely out of it 50 games in last year. These games mean something.
  6. Been almost 4 full games so far, and the Brewers have zero hits from their 1st baseman. For those asking if it could be worse than last year, well so far it is.
  7. I just don't understand the venom toward this guy. He dropped in out of nowhere, put up two outstanding seasons, but struggled in 2011 yet the team still won 96 games so as with Yuni, no harm done. He was first class all the way, involved in the community, and gave it his all but couldn't shake a slump that ended up lasting 2 years. He went to Japan, seemingly found his stroke and is now back playing regularly and is off to a good start in a few games. Good for him! If the Brewers are in contention and are looking for a bat and to shore up 1B, I'd be all for bringing him back if not later this year, then for 2015.
  8. I don't expect there to be much if any drop off from 1 to 5 in this rotation. Potentially, it's one of the deepest rotations they've ever had and with Thornburg and Smith both capable of sliding in if needed, it's even deeper.
  9. I think Brewers should do away with these noon starts after night games. They come out of Arizona playing entirely day games and now they are squeezing two games in with 20 hours.
  10. They likely won't get that consistently but when they do, it's not too much to ask for 2 out of 3.
  11. We can only hope for his sake they get him some runs at some point. Great effort appears to be wasted.
  12. We didn't "have to see" Weeks. They just had to pay him one more season. Apparently they don't understand the distinction. They'd be getting a better bang for their buck if he were elsewhere.
  13. Roenicke playing bad percentages (Weeks' .118 with RISP in 2013) and Rickie lives up to that. Segura was the better choice there.
  14. I am optimistic the 1B situation will undergo a major upgrade at some point this season. I am also confident it won't take much to upgrade over what they've started the season with.
  15. I'm miffed if I'm Henderson. He shouldn't have lost the closer role based on 9 spring training innings, where his concentration level was likely nowhere near where it is in the 9th inning of regular season games. I consider Henderson a veteran and therefore would put no stock in spring training performance. It's not like K-Rod was great this spring either. He allowed 10 hits, 8 runs/5 earned in 6 innings, and had both a higher WHIP and higher ERA. I'm not concerned about either, but why the switch? Could the Brewers be playing games to lower Henderson's arbitration number next winter?
  16. Nepotism in any organization can lead to problems. Players see teammates released and shortly thereafter a son of a coach on the parent team is signed? Relatives of higher ups in an organization may or may not be getting special treatment, but in most cases that's going to be the perception.
  17. Great to see Casey McGehee back in the major leagues! Nice opener for him! Would love to see him find that stroke he had in 09 and 10. Never say never. Casey might be worth another look for 2015.
  18. "unless Overbay proves to management that he's completely washed up" I would expect that to be obvious around Mother's Day.
  19. The demise of Gallardo might have been premature. He may not hit 94 with the consistency he once had but he's using a 87 mph slider more now. No, he likely will never be that ace in the true sense, but a .607 career winning percentage is nothing to be sneezed at. Sure W-L isn't a good measurement in a particular season but over 180 career starts it does mean something.
  20. That's 5 shutouts of the Braves in the last 7 meetings. All 4 wins over them last year were shutouts and that's 15 shutouts recorded by the Brewers since June 15th last year. Amazing.
  21. Making room for vets Hermida and Mattison and Gindl not making the opening day roster caused a backlog. If either vet doesn't produce, they won't be around long.
  22. I agree, but in the context that it also has created the problem of not having a power bat off the bench (obviously this is why many are miffed that Overbay was selected over JuanFran). In the NL, that is a pretty important role imo. Keeping Gindl would have provided power off the bench also. The roster is a bit off kilter mainly because they punted on the 2B situation, but also because they went with a weak bat in Overbay to make some starts at 1B, and to pinch hit. None of these roster decisions seem fatal but could they be better? Probably. I think Schafer, Gennett, and Bianchi will all see some significant time and be useful off the bench when not starting but as always adjustments are inevitable.
  23. Umm, isn't this the point of owning a team? Most ownership groups have some degree of financial restraint that's in line with their revenue stream. The Angels could justify Pujols because of their enormous tv revenues. But 84 year old billionaires have a much greater sense of urgency (check the actuarial charts) and are less likely to concern themselves with draining some of their fortune to accomplish their goals in their lifetimes and so aren't all that worried that revenue will cover an insane contract or two. There's already a hugely uneven playing field in the game of baseball. Adding another element (rogue elderly free spending ownership willing to risk massive year to year losses) just makes things that much worse.
