  1. I was at the game last night. Yuni made some sparkling plays defensively at 3B.
  2. Why bother with a guy like him who's never played 1B? It's not like his bat is that valuable. Corey Hart and his agent are enjoying watching him but I'm not.
  3. I completely agree with turbokey. If Francisco is the answer, I don't want to know the question. He's just another low average swing for the fences guy who's horrible defensively at 1B as well as 3B and a terrible situational hitter. I'm not that huge on Morris, but I'm sure a Morris/Halton platoon at 1B can do better than Francisco. Give me Jeff Bianchi any day if Ramirez gets traded. Bianchi is an above average defensive player and while he won't hit for much power, he takes good approaches with men on base, a novelty on this roster. Someone mentioned seeing some Mark Loretta traits in Bianchi and I agree. I think A Ram needs about 6 healthy weeks and he's not going to be able to be dealt this year. Maybe this winter. That contract is tough to move.
  4. Boomer could hit them out to any field and won 8 Gold Gloves. He also brought the Brewers Cecil Cooper.
  5. I'm feeling old as well. RIP Boomer. It was the 73 team that turned me from a closet Oakland fan to a full fledged Brewer backer. Specifically it was 10 game win streak in June that year. Now 2/3 of the big 3 of Dave May, Boomer and my guy, JBriggs are gone. Sad day.
  6. Which is why the Brewers should hold on to him and see what the market is for him this winter. Oakland might be a good fit, but if there's no other teams competing for his services, the return isn't being maximized and there may be an even better fit out there.
  7. Except everyone knows $10 in concessions probably costs the team $1 or less in actual cost. Doubt this promotion costs them more than $500k. It's hard to pinpoint. If people use it as a discount on clothing that they normally wouldn't otherwise purchase, it might actually be a net gain in that they reduce inventory that might have had to be put on sale later. If people use it for their normal brat and a beer they usually pay full price for, then that's costing them the full amount. If they normally wouldn't otherwise spend anything at the concessions for food/drink, then the cost is minimal of their product cost. Then there is parking revenue generated when people who would have otherwise eaten tickets show up because of the $10 incentive or people decide to attend a game who otherwise wouldn't. It certainly won't cost them anywhere near the face value of the vouchers.
  8. His performance is what's preventing a deal. The good news is he's certain to clear waivers so he can be dealt after the deadline. If somebody did claim him, then it would be bye, bye. The Brewers seem determined to keep putting him out there in hopes a little hot stretch will spark some interest. If the Brewers want anything of value back, then they'd have to pay a large portion of his salary.
  9. The old saying goes, you build a team with strength up the middle. Gomez, Segura, Lucroy and ???? Oh well, 3 out of 4.
  10. Melvin shouldn't lower the asking price for Lohse. Next year at this time and even this winter, Lohse's contract won't be as big an issue for teams looking for a proven starter. I don't see anything happening now. Sooner or later, Lohse is either going to help them contend, or he's going to bring something of value back. When that happens is irrelevant. Dealing him strictly as a contract dump now makes little sense as their track record suggests they'd go out and find another similar type.
  11. While I agree Attanasio is a fan's owner in that he's always tried to reward them with effort and pushing the payroll, he's clearly in a PR pickle from a business standpoint now. As he stated the other night, this is not going to go away any time soon. He's clearly counting on loyalty from his fan base, but he knows darn well this is going to be a tough offseason selling tickets. I don't buy season tickets, but I think anything short of a prorated refund to the season ticket holders of the money that would have been paid to Braun, doesn't quite ring true.
  12. These are my thoughts exactly. Yes he has a lot of innings on his arm, but he's still only 27. Even a modest bounce back and he's still very useful if not ace material. If he reverts to his previous form, then he's going to still have very good value next year, that's assuming that the Brewers are out of contention of course. I do think the Brewers need to monitor his work load the rest of the year. I wouldn't shut him down just yet, but an extra day or two of rest, and once the rosters expand and they want to look at Nelson and Hellweg, give Yo the rest.
  13. Why cherry pick those random situations? His whole season has been terrible. Mainly because those are money situations, and those numbers are off the charts bad, not just terrible.
  14. Halton saw almost no time after he stranded a runner on third with less than 2 outs in the last game he started in Arizona, a 2-1 loss. Nevermind that Francisco has done that about a half dozen times since, and he's in there every day.
  15. I'd be okay with a Bianchi/Gennett platoon once Ramirez is back playing 3B. The production at 2B this season has been putrid, and that's on Weeks.
  16. Don't we all want to ask Braun, man, what were you thinking? People do make mistakes. But most mistakes, people can at least understand and relate to the motivation because most all of us have weaknesses for one thing or another. He wasn't after a high in the way most people are. He could have any number of gorgeous women. The world was his oyster. Did he get some thrill out of beating the system? Was that such a high for him that he'd risk his reputation, and while not his entire contract, certainly his earning power off the field. To the extent Tiger Woods damaged his brand through a promiscuous life style as a married man, at least most men can relate to the temptation. The lie is more damaging but at least we can relate to trying to protect ourselves. People say he would have been better off coming clean, but that wasn't an easy choice either. He still would have had to answer the simple question why.
  17. After being "player of the month" for June, Weeks has returned to his early season form in July: .169/.319/.322. For the year, Weeks has driven in just 12 of 190 runners on base when he's batted. He's 1 for 30 with 2 outs and RISP and is hitting .118 overall with RISP. I think another visit from Scooter is in order. Weeks was far more productive not playing every day.
  18. Eh, I doubt we'll see Davis or Halton except against lefties. They'll use Schafer/Gindl against RHP and they seem enamored with Francisco's 7 HR in 133 PA, so he's going to start there nearly every day. I like that Bianchi is now getting an extended look. I really think they could do worse than have him start either at 3rd or 2nd.
  19. Alexei was a good 2nd tier SS when he was hitting 12-15 HR per year. He's hit 1 this year. In fact his drop off in power seems awfully suspicious. He's also not cheap. I can't imagine the Sox turning down the deal. They might be holding out for a position player. They have decent young pitching.
  20. I think a lot of people here, in the Milwaukee media, and in the front office of the Brewers are living in a state of denial, the first stage of grief. I've moved on to the 2nd stage, depression. I here a lot of people say, "I never really was that big a fan/worshipper", or "I'm immune to players doing this kind of stuff", or "I don't care that he's a lousy human being if he produces for us." Really people, really? Ryan Braun is no ordinary player. He was The Guy for this franchise. Think Milwaukee Brewers and the first guy that comes to mind is Ryan Braun. Period. You guys really think that now he's going to be able to somehow extricate himself from the role of team leader to more just a paid mercenary from somewhere else? Exactly how is he going to do that? Now he'd be hounded anywhere but more so in the place where all this happened. Oh, I have no doubt he'll still have some fans. Fans are like that. But what he did and the bold face lies he told are a stain not just on him, but on the organization. Fans elsewhere will take out their dislike of Braun and punish other guys in Brewer uniforms as long as he's still wearing one. He needs to go somewhere where their is another highly beloved star player, and he can just be a guy who is a good player and doesn't have to be a good guy. It probably needs to be someplace too where fans are most jaded.
  21. You realize he was a 6th round pick because people knew he would be a tough sign, right? He got paid like a supplemental pick or better. That is where he would have gone if signing wasnt a question. He is 21 years old and has never played 3B until this year. Give him time before saying he cant stick there. Who are the 9-14 guys you would put ahead of Delmonico in our system? I rank guys not as much on ceiling, but as their likelihood of being a guy who contributes at the major league level. I'd rank him behind Tyrone Taylor, Mitch Haniger, Victor Roache, Scooter Gennnett, Orlando Arcia, Coulter and 8 or 9 pitchers, Nelson, Hellweg, Pena, Jungmann, and a handful of others. It's his lack of position that hurts him in my mind. If he were close to average defensively at 3B, he'd be in my top 6 or 7. But he's not. If all he is is a good power bat at 1B, he joins several others in the system, Nick Ramirez and Garrett Cooper for instance that are on that same level. Those guys are slightly older, but not that much.
  22. I think we need to temper the excitement a bit here. This is not an "absolute steal" or a guy on the level of a supplemental first rounder. He was a 6th rounder in 2011. He's performed to that level, maybe slightly better (he might be a 3-4 round guy if a draft were held today). He apparently has no defensive skills whatsoever. He's made 12 errors in 63 career games at 1B, and his 3rd base play make Mat Gamel and Ryan Braun look like gold glovers there by comparison. He's got some pop, and some patience without ridiculous strikeout totals. But he's an under .250 hitter. Profiles to me as a George Kottaras in the making more than a Prince Fielder. For guys without position, they have to be outstanding hitters. He may become one. He may not. I wouldn't put him in the Brewer top 10. More like around 15. Still he does add depth to a system that can use it so that is a plus.
  23. Typical guy that Melvin likes. Has power, doesn't hit for much of an average, can't hide him in the field. To be fair he just turned 21 and he's at high A. Wait and see I guess.
  24. If his being here affects the atmosphere in and around the team, and so affects a segment of the ticket buying public that they stay away, no amount of production is worth keeping him around even if the return for dealing him in a strict baseball sense is less than equal. His actions and deceit cut to the core more so with Brewer fans than anywhere else. He'd get a much cleaner slate elsewhere from the fans. The Brewers gave him that contract not just to produce on the field but be the face of the franchise. He can no longer fulfill the second part of that. I might buy the argument for keeping him long enough to showcase that his skills haven't diminished, but once that's been accomplished, then you offer him up and sell to the highest bidder. He didn't just damage the Ryan Braun brand, he damaged the Milwaukee Brewer brand.
  25. The tradeable assets in the rotation will be just as tradeable next year, and a return to his prior form for Gallardo will increase his value. Someone on ESPN quoted a scout as describing Gallardo as a 4-5 starter. That's not going to bring the desired return.
