  1. I love how baseball relates to the recent past as the "steroids" era.....yet they have their heads in the sand and don't even acknowledge that HGH use is rampant. We're in the HGH era right now, boys. They are ignoring the obvious again while acting self-righteous about trying to clean up the past. I find it obnoxious.
  2. I agree....the league has some skin in this game. Foreign players have created worldwide interest and therefore $$$$. It's good for the game. At the same time, the league cannot allow these folks to dictate where they play or they'll create an imbalance in competition....time for Stern to get something done. I hope they hold tight and tell him to sit if necessary. The downside is they'll lose him after three years anyway.
  3. I don't like Barry one bit. He's earned the disdain....yet I think he is being unnecessarily vilified. The same media folks that made him a hero...and buried their head in the sand when it's been obvious what was happening are now acting cheated....it borders on being dumb...and I'm not playing.
  4. I'm sure he's a nice guy and a fine citizen.....but please keep Elmer in Nashville. Nothing personal.
  5. He's beginning to show signs of life.....
  6. I heard on ESPN radio this morning that Sammy is on the block in Texas. I don't think he fits a need, but seeing that he is from Texas, there is always a chance.
  7. Does anyone know anything about DiFelice's stuff? He had great numbers at Huntsville, but looks like an older journeyman type. Anyone know anything about him?
  8. Pinch hitting for Rickie Weeks in a clutch situation????? Ned is showing some sense.
  9. I give him points for remembering the very forgettable santos.
  10. I am agreeing with the notion of limiting his innings. He's taken the ball every five days, dominated, been promoted and pitched a perfect game...staying healthy the whole time. I'd ease off the accelerator a bit and remove a bit of pressure. He began the season as a question mark, and has turned into a serious organizational asset. Ironically, Mike Jones entered the season the same way, and he's probably done, at least in Milwaukee. That alone should cause them to pause a bit with Manny. He doesn't have much more to prove at this point. He'll have his innings before the end of the season. Given his total dominance of lefthanders (less than .090 batting average), I would expect to see him in Milwaukee sooner than later.
  11. I can't provide an appropriate description of my feelings about Sheff without being banned.
  12. They do need a new arena, however, or they'll be gone in a decade. I don't think the Pettits are going to cut another check, and the city is clueless, as they watch empty warehouses and industrial buildings and yearn for a return to 1950. The Pettit's are dead. Neither will be cutting checks. The Bradley Center will be selling the naming rights. The answer is for the BC to merge with the WI Center District and use their taxing authority to make the infrastructure improvements....it will happen when things go on "code red." Nothing stops it from happening now but the egos involved. It's an absolute no-brainer.
  13. I agree about Berman. His shtick was funny and groundbreaking 20 years ago....it was lame 10 years ago, juvenile five years ago and now someone really needs to pull him aside and be a good wingman. I feel the same way about John Madden, yet Madden actually provides some meaningful insight once in awhile. Berman does not.
  14. That's a great idea. I think Brian should invite him back, and then mess with his designation under his name, listing him as inbred, using pink lettering and the number of post as minus five hundred or something negative. He'll leave soon enough given his narcisstic tendencies.
  15. No kidding? Aguilar has that kind of arm?
  16. Inman has me a bit spooked right now, but he seems to be improving/settling in a bit. I might have had Gamel and Ford listed above Cain and Gillespie. Cain is one of my favorite guys to follow...but he's been quite disappointing this year. After a horrid start, he's coming around but seems to really lack punch. On the other hand, Ford has surprising punch. I'm hopeful for all those guys though. As always, great work by the team....thanks for sharing. What is the reasonable expectation for LaPorta at this point? Finish next season in AA? That is kind of what I'm looking for.
  17. I wonder if I'm inbred or a ******? It would have been fun to let him hang around long enough to provide us each a classification. He really needs his WOAH SOLVVD.
  18. Well, it'll be too late in a couple weeks. The more Gwynn plays the more his value will drop. I see it the same way. I think Gwynn's trade value is at an all-time high right now.
  19. In order to make room for LHP Chris Cody on the Brevard County roster, RHP Josh Baker lands on the disabled list once again. Good luck to Josh. Bad news for Josh, coming off the injury. I recall being giddy a few years ago thinking he was a steal, having been overlooked as the fourth best pitcher on the Rice staff.
  20. JoeHova, when a moderator asks members to do something, please comply. Can this stuff be done in private? It's inappropriate in almost any instance, family or business, to take someone to task in front of others. It looks like grandstanding, causes embarrassment and almost never delivers the appropriate impact because of all the other unnecessary issues that must be first overcome. I don't understand why it is common practice here. That said...I think this is a great place...I just don't understand why this is common practice at brewerfan.net. Respectfully....foam
  21. Is there a report of the severity yet?
  22. I agree...I think that is how we'll first see him in Milwaukee, and depending on his success, perhaps seeing an increased role (later in the game in more pressure) if he succeeds in the lower pressure situations.
  23. They will not be in the tryout mode in September. Parra, if up at all, is unlikely to be used as a late inning guy. I don't know, Al. When rosters expand on 9/1, and with lefties batting below .090 against Parra this year, I would not be surprised if they had had on the roster to use situationally down the stretch. I agree they won't be in the "tryout" mode....they won't give him a start to two to see what he can do. That's not my point. I do think Parra can be valuable as a situational lefty come September though when the rosters expand anyway.
  24. I think come September, Manny Parra would be a devastating LOOGY. Also, I don't think we can ever stop thinking about mining nuggets that could pan out. Seven years of committed drafting and developing is finally coming home to roost, and while the major league level has lots of intriguing folks that will be around awhile, we still have to be thinking about finding guys with high ceilings who might develop down the road.
  25. Some #1 picks never make the bigs. And Weeks is still just 24. Considering he's at last year's pace and is nowhere near 100%, I'd say he's having a fine campaign. --Visit Al's Ramblings...analysis and statistical folly since 2002. I get your point about a #1 pick and still being young....but I stop short of trumpeting this as a fine campaign. Give me Crabbe or Graffanino at this point and send Rickie either to rehab for awhile or to play in AAA.
