  1. Just because someone doesn't say anything to a person, that doesn't mean they aren't thinking something. Same with bad breath. Someone can have breath that could make a horse keel over dead, but few people will speak up and say, your breath smells like rotting garbage, you might want to buy some Tic-Tacs. I was in the very full doctors office waiting area about a week ago and this fat chick had on a way to tight t-shirt that left part of her belly hanging out, but i and nobody else there said to her that she looked pretty damn gross in that top. Given the looks on the faces though i caught of others as they looked at her, i'm quite certain others were sharing my thought. As for those shoes, whenever i see guys wearing them, they look like a man wearing womens shoes to me. I wouldn't wear them under any circumstances, buy hey, it's their feet and their fashion choices.
  2. So am I. To be fair I'm waiting for it to drop out on Dempster too. It just baffles me to see a bad RP turn into a decent SP. And that's the wonderful part of baseball and in general, all sports. Each year is a new season and as much as fans try to predict/guess how players or teams will do based on previous years, there are always so many players who do much better than you'd ever expect or do worse than you'd expect. To bad for us Brewers fans though, it's the Cardinals who are riding a patched together pitching staff and a better than many expected offense to a 42-29 record and not us. Braden Looper/Todd Wellemeyer/Kyle Loshe/Joel Pineiro That had to be a frightening thought for most Cardinals fans entering the year, yet here they sit with the 2nd best record in the NL.
  3. I tend to think there is something to that. Considering the fairly smallish payrolls the Twins have had to work with under Terry Ryan before his recent retirement, they have have had a good amount of success. When they've won, it seems from my outside view that they won mostly with pitching, defense, speed, and high batting average hitting vs winning with power and guys who walk a lot. They don't seem to draft many young mashers with fielding issues that they hoped would learn to defend later. Even though i don't follow the AL that much, this young Twins team seems typical of other Twins teams when Ryan was the GM. A young pitching staff of mostly homegrown arms, some young toolsy athletes with speed, a high batting average team, and not much power.
  4. The most stunning thing for me is watching Seth being able to throw 2-0 or 3-1 curveballs for strikes. I was glad when the team decided to give McClung a roster spot as the last man in the pen simply out of hope that Maddux could do something to help fix a large guy with a blessed arm. Watching him early on this year, i saw some positive signs that he was getting better command of his fastball, but he really still had pretty big problems commanding the curve and only seemed to throw it as a diversion. When he got moved to the rotation, my biggest fear was that having Seth throw many innings, he'd get exposed easier because in a way, he was a one pitch pitcher. I thought the pen role suited him best and he was doing a solid job there, so leave him be. Now the guy is out there throwing very hard to hit curves for strikes even while behind in the count, something he almost never did as a relief pitcher. To me, that's been the key to his success. As we saw at times with Turnbow, even if you throw 95, if the only pitch you can get over is a fastball, big league hitters will time it and start ripping liners all over the place.
  5. I have seen six of his starts this year. Not once have I ever thought he'd be capable of blowing through our lineup while allowing one hard-hit ball in five innings. I mean, if you want to keep making excuses for this garbage, that's fine. I'm not going to apologize for having higher expectations than to see my team embarrass themselves in the only games my friends bother to watch. Slowey now has as many hard-hit balls as he's allowed. "But he's pitched well before, so it's okay. And I'm sure he was a good hitter in Little League." - Ned Yost Has nothing to do with excuses, you just for whatever reason are getting all extra bent out of shape because a mediocre pitcher is shutting down the Brewers, even though stuff like this happens around baseball all the time and not just against the Brewers. Check the box scores of games nearly every night, you'll find a very mediocre pitcher who leaves fans of the other teams saying, how did we not hit this guy. How do you think Astros fans felt when Bush went 7 innings and only allowed 4 baserunners all game two starts ago? You act like only the Brewers have some monopoly on struggling to score runs some nights vs less than stellar pitchers, even though it happens all the time in the big leagues.
  6. We aren't the only team to struggle sometimes vs a mediocre pitcher Prior to the last start by Slowey, he only gave up 5 runs over 21 innings and his ERA was only 3.76 until the White Sox torched him.
  7. This is Bush to a tee The guy can just cruise through any batting order, but get a few guys on and Bush just has an amazing ability to hang meatball curves or 87mph fastball right over the heart of the plate.
  8. The Twins aren't exactly doing much at the plate either while facing 5.50 ERA Dave Bush. They hit one ball hard all game and were lucky that an error left a runner on base for the ball hit by Mauer. Watching both guys pitch, both Slowey and Bush look very similar. High 80's straight fastball and mediocre stuff overall, needing great command each night to get outs.
  9. I know i shouldn't have done this, but i took the packing out a day early, man it friggin hurt big time while taking it out. They looked like mini tampons shoved up my nose. I still feel like crap, but at least i can breathe a bit through my nose now and don't have to have that gross bubbling up of mucus/blood/packing in my nose. My one fear though is that i wasn't supposed to blow my nose at all when the packing was in, but i cracked about 5 times and did it anyways while i was trying to sleep the first two nights. I did it as lightly as possible, hopefully it didn't damage anything from the surgery. I'm dreading having the splints taken out next week, how bad is it? Many years ago when i liked to hang in bars every night and got into my share of fights, i do remember one time catching a wicked right hook straight to my nose and feeling like my life was ending at that very moment. I do wonder now if i broke my nose that night, but just never realized it.
  10. In defense of Seth, he made a fairly dramatic change to his pitching mechanics, which could be playing a decent sized role in why he's having more success. He's not throwing in the high 90's since the change in his mechanics, but McClung seems to have traded that for better command.
  11. If he signs for the same length that Braun did he should get more. They'll be buying out arbitration and four free agent years. I understand that, but what if Hart's agent asked for as much or more than Braun got during the same arby and free agent years that were bought out from Ryan?
  12. All of my life i've never been able to breathe good through my nose, so i decided to finally go see a ear, nose, throat doctor. It took him about 5-10 seconds looking into my nose to say i had a deviated septum, which i had never heard of before. The doctor basically said that if i wanted to be able to breathe through my nose, i'd need to have surgery on that deviated septum. He did warn me that after the surgery, i'd have packing in my nose and be uncomfortable. Well a warning to anyone whoever decides to have surgery on your nose, my lord is it flat out miserable. I had it done yesterday and after i got home, it was one of if not the most miserable days of my life. Blood and mucus fills up your nose with the packing inside it, but you aren't allowed to blow your nose. When you try to eat or drink, you start to gag because your nose is so plugged. My whole face and mouth feels swollen and sore. When you try lay down to sleep, your nose fill up even more, to the point it feels like the congestion goes all the way back to your eyeballs and it feels like i'm breathing through a thin straw. Has anyone else here had surgery on their nose and was it as miserable as what i'm going through right now? It's taking every bit of willpower in my body to not just rip this packing out ASAP and not wait until Saturday.
  13. I'm fairly confident that it's only a matter of when, not if the Brewers get him locked up long term. The only thing i wonder about is i think the Brewers got a real bargain with Braun's contract and what if Hart's agent asked for more money than Braun got?
  14. I understand that viewpoint, but then again, Harrington could have told Boras to take the 1.2 million offer from the Padres.
  15. I've long been a Weeks supporter who thought it was only a matter of when he broke out and became the player we all hoped for. It's year number four though of him being our everyday player at second. The reasons and/or excuses for his very inconsistent production at the plate are finally wearing thin with me. If Weeks can't show pretty dramatic improvement at the plate as this year goes on, i would hope Melvin checks into at least finding someone else to play second for us next year. It's gotta be pretty dramatic improvement at the plate because i don't see him ever becoming a good defender because he just lacks the fielding instincts other good middle infielders have. If he wasn't a subpar defensive player, it would be easier to stomach these prolonged hitting slumps that Weeks gets himself into. The double whammy of bad offense and defense from him when his bat is cold, that's a real problem for the team.
  16. It amazes me how often pitchers make flat out terrible throws to first base after a bunt or infield roller to them. I understand that they don't do it all that much, but these are guys who throw a baseball for a living. Anyone have a theory as to why so many pitchers look like they've never thrown a baseball before on these plays?
  17. Another very solid start for McClung so far No bad for a guy who was called McDung by many whenever he entered a game. Time will tell if he can keep it up, but for a 5th starter, hard to complain about his results since the switch.
  18. Yep I don't give a crap about the Twins at all. At this moment without checking, i could only guess what the record is within 5 games . When i check the box scores at night, i check the Cubs/Cardinals/Astros first, then the rest of the NL. The only time i see whether the Twins won or lost is while browsing for the NL box scores, i happen to pass over the Twins score. I'm going to the Twins game on Saturday and it has zero to do with it being the Twins. I'm going because i want to see the Brewers and because it's supposed to be nice out. I do hate the Vikings and hate Gopher Hockey teams though, but as for baseball, the Twins are just another AL team that i don't care squat about.
  19. Or it could do the reverse, annoy him that it's a point of emphasis in his contract negotiations If i had to guess, the only thing i could possibly see Sheets accepting in regards to incentives is say a 3yr/45 million dollar deal that vests into a 4th year if he meets certain innings limits over those three years. Or a 4yr deal that vests into a 5th year via meeting innings criteria.
  20. Those weren't curves that Bush left right over the heart of the plate
  21. Man, if any quote ever summed up Yost to a tee, the above does it perfectly
  22. I never in the past cared for the job Haudricourt did, but i think he's done a better job this year. I think in general his chats have been better and i listen to him sometimes on Steve the Homer True's talk show, it's usually a good listen. The Witrado guy is another story, i don't care for him at all
  23. How does Weeks manage to miss so many balls like that which either hit his glove or go over/under it?
  24. The debt is only in place because Attanasio wanted it there for tax reasons. When Mark bought the team, he paid less up front because he assumed debt, that debt could have been paid off on the sale if he wanted to. Since Attanasio has owned the team, he's made healthy profit totals each year and used good amounts of that profit to lower the debt, which makes the team more valuable whenever he chooses to sell. That debt isn't as much a team debt as it is Mark's debt and each year he keeps paying it down is roughly the same as putting it in his own pocket. Their revenue streams overall aren't that poor either when you factor in all the money the Brewers receive from revenue sharing and attendance. The TV contract is where the team is getting short changed. I'm not trying to imply that Attanasio shouldn't be able to keep pocketing profits each year like he has been, but these aren't the Selig day with little revenue coming in and the team losing money each year. As for Sheets, any chance to sign him will need to be before he hits the market. If Sheets wants to stay enough to take less, we might have a chance. The yearly amount he wants obviously will matter, but i see the number of years being the key sticking point. If he'll take something like says 3 years with a 4th year vesting based on innings pitched and with a team buyout, i can see the Brewers being very interested. Maybe Attanasio/Melvin would give four guaranteed years at around 15 per, but i see that as the max limit and mabye they'll view that as to much risk. If he wants 5 years, Ben's gone for sure.
  25. I only see one pretty remote chance that Sheets stays in Milwaukee That being Ben really wanting to remain here and taking a discount to do so. If he wants top dollars or very close to top dollars, he won't get it in Milwaukee.
