I have friends who also DVR games. FWIW, I don't always do that. I watch sporting events with friends or family sometimes and then it's usually watched live. It's just when i'm alone that i DVR games to avoid the endless commercials. Often say before a noon or 3PM Packers game if i'm watching it alone, i'll take my dog for a needed walk and then by the time i get back, i can watch the game mostly commercial free. But hey, everyone is free to watch games how they wish. On the front of going online while watching games, that's just not my thing. I rarely have interest in say posting in game threads during real time. To distracting, especially if it's a big game. I'd much rather keep more focus on the game itself, than what some random posters online are saying about the game that i can see for myself. Obviously it's not an answer for baseball or any sport given they want people watching all of those commercials.
-
That's why if say a Packers game starts at 3PM, i'll start watching around 45 minutes to an hour later. It allows me to fast forward through most commercials, but not the whole game. I'll usually catch up with the live feed around the 4th quarter. To each their own i guess. I'm so used to using the DVR for most anything, i can't deal with the endless commercials anymore during a football game for injuries, reviews, after each kickoff, etc. In baseball late in games when there is one pitching change after another, it's so nice to fast forward right through all of it. I have no problem with avoiding what you said of fast forwarding right to scoring plays, unless it's a game i'm not really invested in or i'm in a hurry. I watch sports specially for the drama. No reason to watch if i only skip to scoring plays. Plus, it's also nice being able to pause a game for whatever reason pops up or rewind to watch a play over if the network doesn't show a replay.

Do we know if he was hit/attacked first? I never went around picking fights in my younger more wild days, but i did spend a good amount of time in bars and was involved in a few fights where i or a friend was swung at first. Once that happened, i wasn't going to just stand there and let another guy beat on me without retaliation. Now maybe Broxton started this fight or another guy did. If it was the other person starting it and was throwing punches, he has every right to defend himself, regardless that he was drunk. What happened between him and the cops is a different story and he's probably lucky that he didn't end up getting blasted with a taser or some pepper spray.

That is a fantastic idea if you don't care if you watch them live. However for most it is something they prefer and even more so as older fans, erm, pass on. I'm basically watching the games live, just about an hour later, not the next day. By the time the game is over, i've pretty much caught up with the live feed, all i did was allow myself to avoid having to watch about an hour of commercials, instead just hitting the fast forward button. Sometimes these games, baseball or football end up having so many commercial breaks that even after waiting an hour to start watching and fast forwarding through all of the commercials, i catch up to the live feed before the game is over. That's how many stoppages of play and commercials there are. But hey, i get that some don't mind watching all of those commercials.

From at least the TV side of things, I have a very simple solution to long drawn out games. I DVR all of them. Say a Brewers, Packers or World Series game is starting at 7 PM. I'll watch some other show i've recorded for about an hour or so, then turn on the game i wanted to watch. Boom, all commercials fast forwarded right through. It's amazing how much easier it is to sit through football games with tons of replay reviews, injury timeouts, and baseball games with numerous pitching changes when you can fast forward right through all of the commercials which then follow. Sometimes i'll be at peoples houses who don't have a DVR and it reminds me of just how happy i am to have one because sitting through endless commercials is torture unless in a festive party environment. That doesn't even include the wonderful ability to pause anything you are watching for whatever reason comes up.

2016 World Series: Cubs vs. Indians (Cubs win Series, 4-3)
danzig6767 replied to 1992casey's topic in Archived Game Threads
Amazing how baseball has evolved to where come postseason time, bullpens have become close to or equal with starting pitching in terms of importance. -
I think the Bucks simply were in desperate need of a guy who can shoot threes and play defense from the SG spot, partially because the Vaughn pick is proving to be a complete bust. Man is he horrible. FWIW, i do think MCW has a place in the NBA, but fit will be important because of his biggest deficiencies in IQ at point guard and his horrific shooting. He does play hard though, defends, and has the size to post up smaller point guards. Put him on a team with shooting and where he's not asked to run the offense much so he isn't dribbling the air out of the ball, he can be a productive bench player. I'm mostly frustrated with the Bucks front office overall. We have two great young talents in Giannis/Parker, but i don't trust those in charge will put a quality roster around them. I did love the Dellavedova signing, but then they foolishly hand Plumlee 52 million even though he was a RFA, on top of the 40 plus million Henson was given. They'll be making nearly 25 million combined the next four years and neither is close to being being good.
-
Based on what? Point guard is almost always a position where good players at that position are more so born than taught. Instincts are needed to be a quality PG and MCW is severely lacking in that regard. To think he'll just some day get it as a point guard would take bucking serious odds because that rarely happened. Going forward, i see MCW as little more than a backup energy PG off the bench who plays good defense. Mix in his terrible shooting, he has to be surrounded by shooters for space. On this Bucks team though where Giannis will be handling the ball so much and a lack of shooting with Middleton out, having a brick machine from the perimeter like MCW playing off the ball often is a terrible fit. Both of Snell and MCW are spare parts type of NBA players, but Snell at least fits the Bucks roster better if he can hit open threes and defend. With both of Giannis and Parker being guys who will score most of their points in the paint, they need other players on the court who defenders have to respect can hit threes or else they'll just clog up that paint.

Miller Park isn't a restaurant though and you must be thinking about fast food, not most restaurants because sit down restaurants will charge anywhere from say 8-15 dollars for a cheeseburger and fries, depending where you go. I go to Six Flags each year with my kid and two other people. They also charge a ton for concessions. When i go to shows at the Riverside or Pabst Theater, drinks are expensive. Same with anything at the Bradley Center. Concessions at the zoo aren't cheap. I went and saw Hell or High Water last night. It was 13 dollars for a popcorn and soda combo deal. Individually it would cost more and popcorn is super cheap to make. Pennies per serving. BTW, for anyone reading this, go see that movie. Nearly any place people attend which has concessions, the items being sold are expensive. It's simply up to attendees on how much they are willing to spend. I generally spend more on concessions than probably the average people by just purchasing whatever i want at that given time regardless of price, but i get why others either feel they can't afford it or justify the costs in their minds. It is what it is and won't change. Concessions at events are pricey.
-
Myself, along with friends/family who i attend games with are generally the spender types. We don't fret much over prices when going out for entertainment, but i do loathe waiting in long lines for concessions. It really annoys me to miss a half an inning or longer simply to wait in line for those concessions or be forces to walk a distance to find shorter lines. So i'm perfectly fine with paying say 5-6 bucks for a brat or 4 bucks for nachos, but i don't want to wait in line 15 minutes between innings to do so.

Scooter needs to go bye bye, 2nd base full time as many others have stated should go to Villar who not only is a vastly superior hitter, he'll offer more range and a better arm defensively. Thirdbase is something Stearns can try to address in the offseason. I'd be more willing to just hand it to Perez if he wasn't so allergic to taking walks and given his bad history in the minors also in that regard, the odds of him becoming a significantly more patient hitter are pretty slim.

What could Braun bring from the Dodgers?
danzig6767 replied to SandyTolan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
There are also the playoffs yet to come. If Puig plays well as part of a Dodgers team which say makes the World Series, they may choose to not even try trading him. -
Yea, McCann is right near the top of the list of douche-bags in all of baseball. Madison Bumgarner would also share one of those top spots, but at least he's a great pitcher.
-
Segura lowered his hands at the suggestion of Luis Mercedes who he worked with over the winter in the Dominican Republic. Nice to see him experiencing success again. Yea, same thing happened with Broxton and he also thrived as a result. Once in awhile a tweak with a hitter or pitcher in their mechanics can have a pretty dramatic impact.
-
Segura reminds me a bit of Broxton. Once in awhile a hitting or pitching coach can have a dramatic impact on a player. Segura struggled badly for two straight years with the Brewers and after the trade to Arizona, he was told to try lowering his hands and clearly it's had a dramatic positive impact on him as evidenced by his fabulous season. Broxton also struggled badly early on this year and looked completely lost at the plate. He like Segura was told to try lowering his hands and the results were pretty dramatic. For many already major league baseball players, coaches can work with them repeatedly and still only have a minor impact on fixing flaws of that player. Here and there though whether it's a tweak in a batter's stance at the plate or say a pitching coach changing a pitchers arm slot/teaching them a new pitch, the results can be much more dramatic. Look at Arrieta with the Cubs.
-
Even if the Brewers knew what Broxton would do and knew they were going to be trading for Brinson, I don't think that should change much on the draft pick. Either you like Ray or you don't. The probability is still that Ray is two years behind Brinson. Neither have seen major league pitching yet, I wouldn't assume both will make it. If they do, there is always two other outfield positions to fill. And finding trades to move outfielders is probably a little easier than any other positional trades to accomplish. Plus, if hypothetically Brinson or Broxton already has CF locked down and is a better defender there than Ray when he's ready to come to the majors, but Ray can be say an .800 plus OPS hitter, having another athletic outfielder who is above average defensively in LF or RF wouldn't be a bad thing. Defense saves runs just as offense produces them. As others have mentioned, a surplus of good players at one position opens up trade opportunities at some point.
-
Plus, if someone gets hurt, Perez can fill in for them with very solid offensive performance. Yea, that can be very valuable to any team.

Jeremy Jeffress arrested in Dallas (DWI)
danzig6767 replied to Hammer's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The thing is though, Jeffress easily could have also been drinking and driving sometimes here in Milwaukee, but he simply never got caught. Same thing with the weed found in his car. I unfortunately used to recklessly party a lot in my early 20's and that included drinking and driving sometimes. It took me hitting a pole to stop doing so and feeling so very fortunate that i never hurt anyone during that reckless time in my life. Point being, before hitting that pole, i drank and drove other times without ever getting caught. -
Villar isn't arby eligible until 2018 so i don't understand why you are so worried about this right now. The team will have another season to see how he does in all aspects of the game before having to submit dueling arbitration values with his agent. Even then it will only be his first arbitration year and thus the amount of money the two sides will be haggling on will have no impact at all on whatever budget Attanasio sets for the team. It will be close to pocket change separating the two sides in the grand scheme of baseball money today. If he's still a quality player after that, then the subsequent arbitration years start getting more and more costly. By then though, Villar could have already been traded or locked up to an extension. Either way, what he has done this year will largely be meaningless from a financial aspect given his 500 K contract will just be renewed at a slight increase.
-
Yea, if Villar is still with the team during arbitration years and he's still making an abnormal amount of dumb outs on the bases, without question the Brewers will have that data and present it, assuming the team and agent don't strike a deal first.
-
Not true. Plenty of people here stated their strong dislike of K-Rod.

I cringe every time I see comments like this one. It has been said hundreds of times on this site, probably by hundreds of different people, but I completely disagree with it. I often wonder if those making this statement have ever coached the sport on a level past t-ball. Even a little league coach/manager makes several decisions per game that 100% effect the outcome of a game. High school, same thing. Yes, the players play the game, but the manager makes a lot of decisions, often in the heat of the moment, just like a football coach, that dramatically effect the outcome, which in turn has a profound effect on wins and losses. The problem with your argument is that over a 162 game season, these things tend to roughly even out from manager to manager. So many fans though love to over-analyze and criticize decisions in the moment which go bad, but largely say nothing when very similar decisions work out well. That leads to consistent X manager is an idiot type of posts on forums of most teams in baseball from year to year. You spent years blaming nearly anything that went wrong for the Brewers on Reonicke and then a lot of the same bad things happen also under Counsell. It's been a long time since the Brewers had a manager who wasn't constantly criticized. Many Cardinals fans think Matheny is one of the worst managers in baseball. Royals fans mostly hated Yost until their team made the World Series. It would be very rare to find baseball forums which don't have vastly more negative posts about a manager than positive ones because it's so much easier to play armchair manager behind a computer where fans don't have to make countless decisions to be picked apart.

Scooter Gennett's trade value
danzig6767 replied to Harry Doyles JD's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Gennett is the greater talent. Villar's career OPS is .717. Gennett's is .743. Villar strikes out a ton for a guy with minimal power. Scooter has more power and has hit for a higher average over a longer sample. Even Villar's strength, stealing bases, is completely offset by the times he gets thrown out on the bases. Gennett is nowhere near a better talent. Villar has a .390 OBP which is elite, Scooter at .325 is pedestrian. Villar is a switch hitter without a liability from either side. Defensively he has better range and a better arm. Villar is also developing as a hitter as he's gotten everyday at bats. He's on pace for about 13-15 home runs, 40 plus doubles, and 80 plus walks. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he hit 20 homers next year and his plate discipline doesn't look to be a one year fluke.
