  1. Clark's demotion would indicate to me a lack of respect for OBP, as that was fine, but his BA is low. Not a good sign.
  2. EY picked off 1B, Helms out by 10 feet at 3B, making the first out of the inning. Icky start, hard to believe we're up 1-0, go Ben.
  3. While it is an understatement to say Tanzer is an idiot, nothing was stopping Matt from calling the Pads and taking the money. Remember, the agent works for the client. Agents can recommend, but they will do as they are told. What's ol' Matt up to these days? EDIT: To answer my own question, he's pitching middle relief in the Central League for the Fort Worth Cats. Good secondary numbers, he'd be worth taking a flyer on...bet that $4 mil looks pretty damn appealing right now.
  4. Just to clear something up, Clark is our property until 2007, unless someone takers him in the Rule 5 draft. We do not "lose him" if he is not added to the 40 man, we just risk him being taken. I'm not really worried about that, so for now, let's hope he pounds the ball in HD and readies himself to begin '04 in AA.
  5. Likewise, as far fas Franklin goes - he is not having a bad season at all, but the guy is gonna be 30 at the beginning of next season, and I think he has already "turned into" what he is gonna be...an adequate #5 starter at best. His season this year is only about a half of a win better than replacement level. Makes you think just how bad our starters have been, huh? Franklin is proving better than I felt, but just a bit. Most good AAA starters will be mediocre or just a bit below if put out there every 5th day.
  6. So, if Wes pitches, looks like Davis will get the callup to go Friday.
  7. The top 20-25 prospects need to be thought of as "outside the box", with no concern for anything except their development. I have to believe Prince is still in Beloit because of his age, not to win a playoff berth. I certainly hope that's the case, at least.
  8. One more start like this, we can get a couple middling prospects for Rusch.
  9. If I'm Rickie, I accept a lot less money to sign a major league deal THIS year, if the Crew is willing to give him one. It puts him in the bigs in 2006, ready or not.
  10. I believe the Carolina League is generally respected as the "best" of the A+ leagues. I welcome a change just to get away from the goofy stats that HD promotes, ala AA El Paso & AAA Denver.
  11. Oh, if we only could have got Ensberg instead of Ginter for Loretta...he'd be stuck behind Helms right now. That said, I'm certain Morgan has played some SS. Can you imagine that bat in an offensive hole like SS? I have to believe he'd be 2nd to ARod.
  12. I know Robert has mentioned a couple times we should sign the best few players from each independent league each offseason and give them a chance. What's there to lose? It also reminds you of how much difference there is between AA and the majors. But, anytime you can pick up a 26 year-old who throws hard for nothing...I don't see much of a downside.
  13. Well, I was working, but where was everyone else? Ford seems to have applied the Peter Principle to his pitching. At this stage, he certainly appears overmatched as a starter, even if it's just a mental thing. As of today, Obermuller looks to be a better option than Matt.
  14. I've never proposed trading Ben, MB, nor do I want to deal any young pitchers. He's the type of arm we need more of, not less of. 25 year-olds with upside that are pretty decent now are few and far between. Kudos to Ned and his staff for removing him after 105 pitches. Many on here would have had no trouble having him "build confidence" and "tough it out" throwing 142 as we chased that 67th win as if it came with a prize.
  15. I have no idea which draftee we are talking about Scoop must have been on the OJ jury.
  16. I said earlier I'd let him walk if he demanded a major league deal. I probably would make an exception, but it goes against everything I believe in. As for the bonus, you can do that any way you like, regardless. Joe Mauer had his split up 4 times, if I recall. Signing a MLB deal has nothing to do with arby or free agency.
  17. I know a place that does wonderful custom framing, Colby.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Many soccer players are petite. The only sport that comes to mind that you actually see short people do well consistently is distance running. And, when you get to world class, I assume longer strides give the advantage to tall folks as well.
  19. Danzig and his cheap buddy ought to take in the AZL Brewers...no lines. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  20. Davis was a no brainer to sign to a minor league deal. As I said a couple days ago, how did he get passed DET & TB on waivers? The DevilRays see value in Damion Easley, but not a 27 year-old lefty?
  21. While Huntsville is in the playoffs, all you have to worry about are kids not going over their pitch counts. I can't believe that will be a problem, so as Rev, Jackson would say, The question is moot. All teams have the same roster limits and have all-stars participating, so it's a problem all over. Until you see a reliever pitching 3 innings one day, then 2 the next, things are fine. Odds are, you won't see Mike jones or Pero Liriano pushed at all...though the last man on the staff may see extra action.
  22. Only 64 AB's, so it is a verty small sample, but Gwynn is off to a .375 /444/.500 start to his pro career. Another good sign is his 5 doubles and 1 HR out of his 24 hits...if 25% of his safties go for extra bases, he isn't nearly the "slap" hitter we were led to believe he was.
  23. Woah Solvdd? Painful.
  24. Huntsville gets by with 10 pitchers, we have 13 in Milwaukee. The irony is overwhelming.
  25. Stietz may have asked for his release. I wouldn't have given it to him. We still own the rights to Dustin 5th rounder, I woulda let Jon retire. Heck, I'll go as far as to say I'd look for Stietz types to pick up, former top 5 picks that have struggled. Goodness, Chad Green is finally not embarassing himself at AAA. He'll never be a star, but he may still get some ML time. Some take longer than others to figure it out. Obviously, as a high pick, they have "tools", but haven't put it together. It doesn't seem far fetched to say that if you find ten of these guys, a couple will make it.
