  1. Height means next to nothing in baseball. Sure, you'd prefer 6-1, but who cares?
  2. Bowman is exactly the type of HS pitcher I'd look to draft, while eschewing them in the top 5 rounds. Take your college arms and top position guys early, get them signed, then knock on Bowman's door and say we know you should have been a 3rd or 4th round pick, here's 3rd round money. It's like getting a bonus pick. Sure it costs more, but you got 3rd/4th round talenmt in the 21st round...I have no problem taking a gamble in that scenario.
  3. Only 4 12th round picks signed last year at all. I'd be plenty happy if we signed our top 10.
  4. I'd never dream of pitching for my HS again. I doubt I'd play SS either. And, if I was another player, I'd understand completely. In fact, I'd tell him he was an idiot if he would.
  5. I think it's becoming obvious the Brewers don't feel the closer role is a spot to put a prospect. Adams was the best pitcher in the 'pen at Indy, and he was pitching 2-3 innings at a time, then moved into the rotation. Childers was just an arm to them, and they used him as the closer, maybe to give him a chance elsewhere. Phelps would appear to be in a similiar situation.
  6. I'd a lot rather have Rushford than Liefer myself. Jim has shown the ability to get on-base at every level, except those few AB's he got in the bigs that September. Good to see Ben back. I assume he was not on the roster until today, thus the TBD.
  7. Few HS players make it out of rookie ball that first year. Even less of a chance for a pitcher to do so.
  8. On my 'puter, it goes right to the list of '04 draftees. Huh. Thanks for the info, Ben, will send right away.
  9. I seem to recall we gave MassBrew's area HS arm $60K plus college, and I thought he was 15th-20th round. Or, maybe my memory is hazy.
  10. Ben, they've already listed the '04 picks in that spot. Any other info, estimates or guesstimates, are appreciated as well.
  11. A dad I've corresponded with through Ramblings had his son taken in the 12th round today? Anyone know of a link to the 2003 bonuses? I know BA had one a long time ago. If no link, an "in the know" estimate would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. LA has the 2nd or 3rd best system, don't they? DePod is in an organization with a lot more cash than OAK. He's no idiot.
  13. I thought we had more than that the day of the Sexson trade, but I could well be wrong.
  14. Sounds like the Crew is one of those "gutsy" teams willing to take HS pitchers.
  15. WaB is funny, see, no one else can tell he's dead.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Actually, it's funny because it's in such poor taste.
  16. Cameron is yelling "hey, batter, batter, batter, kannidy, kannidy, kannidy, kannidy.... (sp?)" ........ The Stars always ran the audio version of that Oof. By far the most overplayed audio clip ever, and one that shows how teams are afraid of silence, the perfect example of playing a generic noise. I might have thought it was funny...then I turned 8. No one seems to get the fact it's funny in the movie because it's so stupid.
  17. If Grieve is dealt, Corey will get the nod, and play the majority of the time. There really isn't much of an option. Now, if the offerings for Grieve are single A relievers, Hart will probably stay down until September. Hart may well be the choice to come up regardless of what OF goes down. No one wants to Liefer to play everyday, he's a bat off the bench with pop.
  18. Me will never understand what you call "feelings". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Upset over the result of a low A game? It's about development. Parents can come to the game and just let the kids run around and not have to feel overly worried about their safety. Ooof. That must be wonderful for those folks who wanted a nice quiet nigth at the ballpark.
  20. Complaining about pizza at the ballpark? That's like complaining about the strip club not having a senior menu. There's not a chef named Luigi crushing fresh tomatoes in the back for his signature sauce, for Christ sake. As stated, the brats and burgers at Miller are excellent. I have purchased some bottled water from a vendor that was barely cool, but I can't complain.
  21. Mass, Scott ran right to the ball and had it skip past him. Terrible angle to the ball. If not for his ability to outrun most of his goofs, he'd be as bad a defensive CF as you can have. I'm not going to get on his case, as he only had the one play that cost us bases, but he simply looks out of sort on any ball hit over his head...and not that comfy on line drives hit in front of him. If we still had a Jason Conti to sub for Grieve, I'd be all for putting Clark into CF in the late innings. And no, I'm not a big believer in subbing for D.
  22. You pretty much summed it up, Greg. Solid, healthy, and plenty young for his league. He was good in his year of 22 at AA, and is doing fine in AAA at 23. 507 K's in 543 innings. 35 HR's in 543 innings. I would project him as a #3 starter at best, but much like Bill Hall, the guy has plenty of ceiling left to surprise me. And, I've always been a big believer in having a couple #2's and a bunch of #3's, as I hate risking $10 mil per year on a couple tendons, elbow, and shoulder. EDIT: Corrected typo.
  23. Liriano is the most underrated pitching prospect we've had in years. He may end up as a relief type, or a bottom of the rotation innings eater...but he still has the potential to be more.
  24. Well, most of the "improvement" has seemingly been a result of banishing Hernandez to AAA. Ford had an OK ERA except for one game, but he's been replaced easily enough. Santos has taken over for Kinney, and done admirably well, shockingly so. Wes O hasn't pitched in almost 3 weeks. The days off and the rainout has minimized the effect of the 5th starter, and the bullpen has been excellent.
