  1. That was translated from English to Japanese and back again.I don't know why, but I have been laughing non-stop for 20 minutes after reading this. I need more background on this, why the translation?
  2. Never noticed this on the bottom of the page before, but BF.net had a record attendance day on May 13, 2008 (728 users). What gives with that day? Should I be embarassed for not knowing?
  3. Sweep the leg Johnny! http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/8c3355819943882212fdbdd8afeaad9ccf26f0a.pjpg
  4. Is it just me, or does it seem like all of MLB is trending towards what used to be considered very young players? Perhaps it has to do with recent economics and/or teams being smarter, perhaps there was an unusually large influx of very talented young players, or perhaps there is no difference at all. I even read somewhere recently that 25 is becoming the new 27 in MLB, when a player is expected to reach their peak. Might this even be the impact of a much lower rate of steroid usage, not providing some of the benefits that an "older" player may have over a younger one? Nonetheless, I was wondering how this might affect the structure of baseball contracts in the future. Will we continue to see the 3 year league minimum and 3 year abitration structure that exists? Or, will we see a reduction in the amount of time a team controls a player that they brought up from the minors? Any offseason thoughts on this? I love following the young emerging players, as I think most do who come to sites like this. However, I only recently began to wonder if this trend might impact some of the contract rules we are accustomed to in baseball.
  5. I am also pretty sure that Adrian Hernandez made a SICK play on a bunted ball where he basically did a somersault and threw the guy out at second. Anyone else remember this?
  6. I was thinking that Bill Hall intentionally blinded himself with Lasik surgery in order to give opposing pitchers a chance.
  7. With so much baseball knowledge on this site, I was curious to see what some of your all time favorite baseball calls have been. I am most interested in Brewers' broadcasts, but any will do. Of course Uecker's call of Braun's homerun in our last regular season game last year is near the top of my list, but I especially like the type of calls where an announcer completely loses it due to the excitement of an unexpected play. One that stands out for me (sorry if the details are incorrect) is when the Brewers came back from a 5-0 deficit against the Reds at Miller Park in the 9th inning. Bill Hall crushed a homerun to win the game and I still get chills thinking about Sutton's call of the homerun. I think this was in 2004 so I cannot find the actual highlight. The Mother's Day homerun call was not that bad either. In fact, I just love Bill Hall highlights... What other ones stand out for you guys? Links are appreciated, but not necessary. I just like remembering some of the exciting/funny moments (i.e. Happy Youngster).
  8. What in the world are they thinking then? Don't they have Chris Davis who can fill that role? Or is Davis a lefty?
  9. I just read something over on CBS Sportsline regarding the Rangers' considering batting Nelson Cruz 4th in their lineup. I know the guy tore up AAA again last year and had some nice numbers in September, but did he impress everyone enough to make that kind of leap. If the lights went on finally for Cruz and this is for real, the Rangers have a very scary lineup this year. Has anyone on this site been following this guy closely enough to provide some further insight?
  10. I always thought that without a salary cap, MLB should convert to the Euro-style multi-tier division thing they do with soccer. Go ahead, pay as much or as little as you want, but just know that if your team finishes as the bottom couple of spots, your team moves down to tier 2, and a few other teams move up one division. How cool would it be (and good for attendance) if a minor league team were battling to be promoted into the majors, or if the Yankees were battling to stay at the Major League level. This would work well with college football too. Nonetheless, I think the Yankees have been angering people due to their status, attitude, and money long before any of us were born. I find it much more fun to just root for them to fail, and enjoy the national media dissecting the team and its issues when they lose 3 games in a row. This same attitude can be applied to the Red Sox. I fear what a salary cap may do to baseball. Would this shorten player's contracts/careeers with a team? Would it shorten a player's overall career length? Who knows, but I have a feeling it will cause more harm than good.
  11. Whew, now that the season is over I can get back to theorizing and second guessing on BF.net. I don't post much here during the season, leaving all that fun for the off-season when I miss the Brewers. It really helps me get through the winter. I probably am not the only one who views/contributes to this site more in the off-season than during the regular season. Anyways, I was just thinking back to how angry I was in 2007 when we tanked and missed the playoffs. I wasn't certain we would have the chance any time soon again. However, fate smiled on us and we made it in 2008, but we were still playoff "inexperienced". I truly believe that if we had made the playoffs in 07, this team would have performed better in the 08 post-season. Not that we would have necessarily made it to the next round, but I think the team would have put its best foot forward at least and made the Phillies truly beat them. How much weight do the rest of you on this site place on playoff experience? (I am especially curious with our so-called "experienced" SP playing like junk yesterday). My only wish is that we make it back in 2009 to test this hypothesis.
  12. As a fan, I shoot for the playoffs. However, I sure hope the team is shooting for the World Series. Any team that make the playoffs should be expecting to win it all, especially after seeing what has transpired in the past couple of years (i.e St. Louis). I have far exceeded my "college-aged" years, but I would be thrilled to be watching baseball in Milwaukee in October. I missed game 7 in 1982 because I chose to watch the Dukes of Hazard instead. I guess I expected baseball playoffs to be the norm in Milwaukee. I think if the Brewers made the playoffs and played well, I would be fine with it. If they went out like the Cubs did last year, I might be pretty frustrated. All of this said, I have been wondering lately why I have tempered emotions this year about the Brewers. I just don't seem to get too high or too low any more. Sometimes I think it is just that I am getting older, but I think it really has to do with the fact that I am not used to following a winning baseball team. The usual complaining, optimism about future prospects, and high hopes for unknown players does not seem to apply any longer. I may just be protecting myself from disappointment, but I think it has more to do with learning how to be a fan of a winning team. Oh well, it doesn't matter anyways, this team is playing very well. I just hope they keep it going and I also hope the Cubs start losing a few games here and there.
  13. I think this may hurt Tampa a little this week (see Gallardo/Brewers), but assuming Longoria can come back in a few weeks it might be a real boost to their confidence, especially if they have managed to hang on to first place. I don't think fractures are all that bad, given some time to heal. Imagine the Rays still in first in 2 weeks and then Longoria comes off the DL and they bring up that uber-prospect Price, it could be a shot in the arm for them.
  14. Much appreciated
  15. Hey, somebody help me please. A few days ago somebody posted (in an IGT i think) about some ideas they had for changing the lyrics of the song "Motorin'" to "Mota's In". Does anyone know where I can find this, I want to show it to my friend. It was pretty funny, and I have had the song stuck in my head ever since.
  16. Just sitting around bored after a beautiful day here in Milwaukee, so I decided to google Ned yost and I come up with this image. Is this really him? It certainly appears so. http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/977252a9e7869138b50a9dc49b73dd199bcde6e.pjpg

  18. Maybe Lohse isn't this good, but tonight he appears to have outstanding control. Here's to a strange development to throw him off his game.
  19. Boy, I hope our guys go to the opposite field tonight.
  20. I was just reading another thread talking about how bad some of the recent ex-Brewers have been doing. However, I don't really like to take joy in that kind of thing. If we are going to do that, we should probably also talk about our biggest mistakes (signings or trades) that the Brewers have made. I have a pretty short memory, so I could not come up with many, other than Jeffrey Hammonds. Out of curiosity, what other ones stick out in your minds?
  21. Isn't anybody else concerned about making too many deals prior to the deadline. I can't seem to recall a team making 3 mid-season deals to make a playoff run. We just added an excellent starting pitcher for the rest of the year, don't get too greedy. I want to win, but perhaps we are in the best position right now. The only thing I see happening is one of those after-the-deadline deals that always seem to occur.
  22. I hate how the radio shows are talking about what to do with Sheets, and how he "finally" is performing in his contract year. This guy has been a critical component to our team for many years and has done well, even though he has had some injuries. We should feel lucky to have had him for this many years and let's see if he can help us get to the playoffs this year. If we lose him after that, so be it.
  23. Man, could you imagine how brutal that type of raod trip could have been for past Brewer teams? We had enough trouble with 6-9 games being played on the West Coast.
  24. Not sure why you referenced Bill Hill, but this guy played on 5 teams in 6 years... More seriously, I really miss Bill Hall being good.
