  1. I'm going to be honest, I have a feeling that Parra is going to be special. Yeah, he got a late start at the majors, and he's not as young as some guys, but you just don't get a lefty who can hit 95-96 on the radar gun consistently. If he can mature enough and get control of his pitches, he's going to be a force to rekon with in the NL Central for many years to come.
  2. These aren't historical fiction or non-fiction, but the Mitch Albom books have some really good lessons for life. I enjoyed those quite a bit. I haven't read any of these, but I am interested in majoring in history in college (I'm a juinor in high school right now) so I think I'm going to have to take a look at some of them over the summer. I'm glad this topic was started. I didn't realize there was so much history background at this site.
  3. I'm going to vent about the trainers because for all we know they were the reason that he stayed in. Fire Caplinger!!! He should be gone tonight!
  4. I'm pretty sure he smacked the ball around pretty good. I know in one of his final games he hit a home run according to BA, and I think he had a couple extra base hits too. I'm not positive on the specifics though. All I heard was that he did pretty well.
  5. Fire Skaalen. Yes, I know it's jumping the gun and it's not going to happen. But the guy doesn't appear to have a clue. The entire offense continues to struggle, and all he can do is shrug and say to keep doing what they're doing. I wouldn't be as hard on him if the offense actually looked disciplined, but they don't, from top to bottom. I think something that we've learned from Wynegar and such is that the hitting coach really has nothing to do with the way the team is hitting. He can only do so much, but then one of the players has to start leading by example and achieve some success to get the other guys to do the same. It's unfortunate but true, and right now we don't have a player that's willing to do that. I'm still waiting for the day that Prince matures a bit in the box and realizes that he does not have to do it all by himself. That at bat today was pitiful, and it's become far to common in a situation like the one he was in. I would have loved to seen a walk or seen him just get on base in that situation. But no, we gotta' try to tie it up with one swing. I really hope the bats come around soon. This is getting ridiculous.
  6. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to sneak a few looks at my cell phone in school today to follow the game and get to a class that goes on the computers today. My school's senior class is going to the game for their senior trip today--unfortunately 90% of them are Cubs fans. I only wish I could be there, but maybe we'll do something along those lines next year too.
  7. From what I recall, Hardy is participating, unless he shaved it before last night's game. I didn't really see him much last night. I know Braun hasn't gotten one yet, but him and Weeks are the only few that I know of. BA and Schroeder were wondering if Yost was growing one. That'd be something to see!
  8. Just don't hit it to the ground on the right side.
  9. This one goes on Reed. God what an idiot. It'd help to be able to throw the ball too. Crap.
  10. Wow it's been one year since his last save. Irony's an interesting concept.
  11. Yost did give them a shot to stay in it by taking out Bush after that first batter. Many wanted him to leave Bush in there to finish regardless.
  12. Did they just give Gwynn a standing ovation?
  13. Hmm... If Turnbow messes this one up... Ergh, I don't know if I can handle a Turnbow ninth tonight.
  14. He's baaaack!!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Well, if it's gonna' happen tonight, then I think it's going to have to happen this inning. There we go Braun! It'd be great to get some sort of cushion (whatever that is for this team at this point).
  16. Well, with that said, it doesn't help that in those ten inning games our starter could only go five or six innings at best. Yost has had enough faults so far this season, but I don't think the fact that our bullpen is depleted is one of them.
  17. I'm not going to make excuses on what pitcher the Brewers face --- at least Hamels is a lefty. The offense has struggled lately and it still is. There isn't such a thing as a weak schedule in a 162 game season. The boys gotta have better at bats. That's the disappointing part of it. I gotta' say that I have my doubts about all of Weeks, Braun, Fielder, Hall, Hart and Hardy continuing at the rate they're at. As one guy put it in the "Cubs, World Series" thread, even if just two of those guys heat up, we'll be okay. I'm not too worried about the hitting, but the bullpen is where I think our success will be determined.
  18. I don't understand how people can blame Yost for having to use the different arms in the amount of extra inning games they've been in so far this past week. It kind of ruins the argument that people have against the guy. Personally, I think he wanted to give Bush a shot to get through the seventh, but Bush blew it. I didn't really understand it at first, but now I guess I can kind of see what his was thinking. First, Hardy's speed is pretty poor he wasn't scoring unless it was a home run (something you're not going to get out of Gwynn or Counsell), and also, I'd say that Bush's bat is only worse than Gallardo's. And as for the reason he then proceeded to take him out in the seventh, it's what I said earlier. He wanted to give Bush a shot to get through the seventh and save an arm in the bullpen for the final two innings, but the leadoff double was no week blooper so he figured that it was probably best to take him out right away if he wants to have a shot at winning the game. And for that reason, they still have a shot, even if it might not be much of one.
  19. I don't really understand why Yost did that, but it did save a pinch hitter for possibly later in the game which might help. It's almost like in the bottom of the sixth he wasn't sure if he wanted to try to win the game, and then in the top of the seventh he decided he wanted to give it a shot. I'm doubtful about whether or not Counsell or Gwynn would have extended that inning so I'm not going to get all worked up about it. If Bush doesn't give up a leadoff double and gets through the inning unscathed, then the move doesn't look as bad.
