  1. I'm with X. Is there any word on what's going on?
  2. link: www.mercurynews.com/giant...ck_check=1 According to that, Barry Bonds may be traded at some point this year. Considering that the Brewers offensive weakness is OBP, Bonds would be the perfect fit in LF to take over for the platoon (which is doing pretty well, but the OBP isn't there). Actually, considering that Bonds is at least the best player since WIllie Mays, he'd be a perfect fit on any team. He's leading the majors in OBP, and he's 5th in the NL in slugging. His defense has the reputation of being bad, but it isn't. It's merely mediocre, which is fine. How about this lineup down the stretch?: Weeks Hart Bonds Fielder Braun Hardy Hall Estrada Jeez, that would be great. That lineup would score a lot of runs, with Weeks and Hart getting onbase in front of Bonds, Bonds driving them in and getting on base in front of Fielder, and Fielder driving him in and getting on base in front of Ryan and JJ. If Bill continues to heat up, all the better. Bonds crushes lefties to the tune of a .985 OPS for his career, so no platoon worries with him and Fielder stacked. Another option (if you believe in mitchell lichtman's research) would be: Weeks Bonds Braun Fielder Hart Hardy Hall Estrada I realize that Bonds is probably the most hated sports figure since Muhammad Ali (Ali is loved now, but wasn't at the time) but he can really play. The Brewers aren't trying to win Miss Congeniality, they are trying to win the WS. Bonds is a 10 and 5 guy, so he can veto any trade, but the Brewers have a great chance to make the postseason and they are the team that Hank Aaron last played for. I could see him oking a trade here. The media here is not ferocious like it is in NY, Boston, Philly, or Chi (or even LA), which would probably be a good selling point. All that said, I doubt the Giants would just give him away. They would probably want some high-level hitting prospects in return and the Brewers don't really have any. They would probably have interest in Jenkins, as he'd be the youngest everyday player on their team, but beyond that, I'm not sure what kind of package the Brewers could put together. Maybe Jenkins, Gwynn, Crabbe, and Cole Gillespie or something like that?
  3. Nashville with a nice 4-2 win guarantees all active Brewer teams are in first tomorrow.
  4. The downgraded the number of dead to 6, which is still awful. That's a real shame. I wonder what that charity does? Whatever it is, that will put a damper on their reputation.
  5. The fact that he's staying is better for everyone. Marquette should be in good shape next season and James has a chance to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of NBA scouts.
  6. Yeah, Mench is much, much better than Nix at the plate. Nix just can't hit ML pitching and his lack pof patience ruins any chance he has of contributing with the bat. However, you would think that Nix would have value to some team, considering the fact that some of the more advanced defensive metrics have him as one of the 2 or 3 best defensive outfielders in baseball. The Bewers have TGJ as a defensive sub, so they don't need Nix, but surely some team could use him as a poor defensive or aging outfielders legs. Boston has a large share of poor defensive outfielders. So does Cincinnati. The Yankees, Twins, Dodgers, Mariners, and White Sox all have one egregiously terrible fielder. Bonds is often removed in the last inning or two in SF. Those are the teams I'd be calling if I was Melvin. Maybe he is doing that and nobody is interested though. After all, most teams have a speedy CF who can't hit at all in their system.
  7. holy cow, that's literally the same block I grew up on. Is it in that apartment building or is it a duplex? My sister-in-law is looking for a spot, I'll tell her about this if you haven't found anyone yet. The only thing is, she's kind of cheap so I can't guarantee she'd be interested. It's worth a try though.
  8. well, just because the Brewers are not a glamorous or competitive franchise. They've had some good prospeects the last 5 years or so, but it will take awhile for affiliates to realize that the Brewers may be a desirable team.
  9. The Cubs are clearly better than the other 4 teams in the division. I think it's fair to be worried about them. Also, the Cubs have the resources to get a big-time player at the deadline, so they will likely get a lot better in a month or two. Actually, it's kind of crazy to not be worried about the Cubs, considering that they have a much better pythagorean record than the Brewers and have the potential to improve a lot.
  10. oh, ok, thanks for the tip. I still have a little bit of hope that Crabbe will join Prince as members of the 2002 draft class that contribute for the Brewers.
  11. I'd say: Sizemore Webb Utley Gonzalez Willis then maybe Hart, if he can continue to play like this. It's funny, the 2000 NBA draft was also historically bad and the Bucks got the best player in that draft at #43 (Mike Redd), which is exceedingly rare in basketball.
  12. Hmm, I wonder why the Brewers always seem to have affiliates who have bad situations. edit: Actually, never mind, it makes perfect sense.
  13. I'd like them to sign Scarpetta most among the guys left. Merklinger seems very unexciting to me based on his scouting reports (bad stuff, bad control, little upside). The reports could hopefully be wrong, but still, not encouraging reports.
  14. Nice, I hope to see LaPorta at Huntsville before the end of the season. I may be too optimistic, but I think it's possible.
  15. Chase Utley was much, much worse than Weeks is at the same age. I'd rather hold onto him and hope for improvement than give him up and throw in Capuano for a guy who is 4 years older and closer to free agency.
  16. They say that pigs are smarter than dogs and horses, yet most of us (obviously excluding devout Jews & Muslims) don't hesitate to eat them. eating a horse does seem kind of weird though, considering they aren't bred for food but rather to help humans. What I mean is, they aren't bred to maximize the qualities that would make them good to eat. I think part of the aversion to eating horse in America comes from that. Considering that their main purpose is not to be eaten, it is seen by most people as garbage meat, something to be eaten only after everything else is unavailable. Same with dog.
  17. don't forget Yost. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. I'm hoping for a proven bullpen arm at this point. Tom Gordon has had 6 straight excellent years in the pen. He's injured this year (sore rotator cuff), but is supposed to be back in a week or two. If he's healthy, he's a guy who could really help shore up the bullpen. If you think he could be had for less than Vargas or Bush, that would indeed be ideal, but I'm not sure that would be the case. I think he's even signed for another year after this one. I think a healthy Tom Gordon would be a much better 8th inning guy than Turnbow. Gordon is as dominant but less prone to getting rocked. He's old, but still quite good. I'd love to get him and an ok prospect for Bush or Vargas and filler.
  19. I agree with jackalope. If Capuano will only miss another start or two, call up Yo to get a little experience. If Capuano will miss a month or more, I'd like Villy to get stretched out for the role.
  20. San Diego might make some sense, but SD already has 4 better outfielders, and Branyan can play the corners too. Unless I missed some Padre getting hurt, Brady won't get much PT there either. He seems to clearly be on the downside, I don't see him hanging around much past this season.
  21. So, the Brewers should now stockpile starters at the expense of other pieces of the team? Eventually Bush and Vargas will be gone. Why not deal one now in order to fill a hole? The Brewers have 8 starters, why not trade one of the worst ones if you can get something good?
  22. I don't really get it. Yost is Cox's son now?
  23. huh, Maroth is a solid #4? I don't see it, he's maybe an upgraded version of Wayne Franklin, but that's all I see there. No way does he bring anything good in return. He'd bring in a Graffanino or Juan Encarnacion type at best.
