  1. One thing I never realized is the big time effect that energy has on your guy. At the end of my second season I was mostly hitting weak ground balls and the occasional line drive. Come Spring Training I was hitting jacks like it was going out of style. By the end of the third week I had 6 home runs and 5 triples. I did some research and it seems like you absolutely need to put serious attribute points into your durability. It gives you a bigger boost in energy on off days and lessens the days off you're given.
  2. I'm almost always a sim kind of sports gamer, usually in it just to build rosters. This is the first game in a long time that I actually want to play the contests. I just enjoy the hitting aspect so much. I didn't play that much over the last five days so I'm still in the middle of my second season, in late July I think. The Brewers are fifth in the WC race and it's not looking good. It's unfortunate too because the points you get in the playoffs are huge and there aren't any goals. So if you make the WS you can really beef your character up. Right now I've got a BA of .436 and an OPS of 1.19. I've been knocking in quite a few runners lately and I have around 76 RBI. I don't qualify for any leaders unfortunately, but with some luck I could be there by the end of September. If I do I have to think I'll be MVP.
  3. I made the Brewers 40 man on RTTS at CF after my first year in AA. Lead the league in average, OB%, OPS%, doubles, walks and triples. I had a solid spring training in year two and made the big league club (19 years old) as a CF/IF utility player. Around one start a week and the first or second guy off the bench. For skill purposes it would have been better to play everyday in the minors. RTTS is ridiculously awesome.
  4. Yup. I think I've become pretty adept at batting. I guess fastball and low. Then I move the left stick into my zone and leave it alone. Once the ball is thrown it's just timing. If it's not in my zone I don't swing. If I'm down two strikes and I have to protect, I've become good enough to the point where I can pretty easily identify balls and strikes. I started as a CF. Their power is pretty low unfortunately but I've been racking up doubles and even triples now.
  5. I'm now batting .355 with an OB% in the .420's. I still haven't hit a home run but RTTS gets much easier the more you play. I have a surplus of training points to help me with challenges as they come up. This game is gonna dominate my weekend. Watch the Tourney online and play The Show.
  6. I always use it pre-delivery. I guess the pitch and location and if the location is revealed I slightly move the left stick that zone. I don't keep my thumb on stick, just enough to shift my focus towards that zone pre-pitch. It usually works quite well.
  7. Ugh. Textbook example of what I'm talking about. Runner on 2nd in a tight game in the 7th. My goal was to drive the runner in. I got the count to 3-2 and was sitting dead read on a fastball down the middle. I get the pitch I'm looking for, the ball indicator telling me exactly where it's going to be. I use a power swing and I end up popping the ball up directly behind 2nd base. The next time up I look at the swing analysis. My eyes were locked in on where the ball was going to be, location was my wheelhouse and it said the swing was perfect. Yet for some reason I get a lousy pop up to 2nd. What the hell?
  8. I haven't played online yet. In fact I think I've only played one regular exhibition game. I'm only really trying to play through RTTS. I'm batting around .330 and my OBP is over .400. My biggest thing is the lack of good hits. It only seems like a reach base when I hit a texas leaguer or ground ball with eyes. Granted, my power rating isn't good, but can it be when I start as a CF and have to devote most of my points to vision, discipline and contact? I guess I'm just nit-picking. Like I said earlier, the depth on this game is ridiculous and it's world's beyond any other sports game I've ever played.
  9. Just like last season, RTTS is excruciatingly long and tough. It's fun, but I don't know if I have it in me to play a couple hundred games just to make it to the Show. I wish they would have made it simpler somehow. As it stands I'm using every slider and rule to help me out. Once I'm in AAA or my ratings are good enough I'll reset them. Hitting has gotten easier but it still seems to be blind luck most of the time. My strategy is I guess fastball and the bottom zone in Classic 1/4. If I don't get a pitch in that zone, I don't swing. If I do, I use the left analog stick to slightly move my vision lower. After that it's timing. Depending on the pitcher's stuff I might not even swing. But if he's only got a change or curve or slider chances are I'll take a hack. The most frustrating thing is when I get a fastball right down the pipe, I swing perfectly and get great wood, and yet all I see out of it is a lazy fly ball. I don't care who you are. If you put a ball on a tee like that you should be hitting bombs. As it stands I've had about 220 at bats in RTTS and I've yet to hit a dong or even a line drive to the wall. The only time I see an extra base hit is when an outfielder tries to throw out the runner ahead of me at 3rd or home.
  10. Yea, I'm pretty lousy at hitting and that's on easy with the classic 1/4 guess pitch feature on. I don't remember having to get good wood by using the left analog stick so much. I'm sure that's why so many people are having issues with the hitting. I think it's tough to the point of being cheap.
  11. When they release the new roster file (jesus that thing should be amazing), follow these directions (from the forum):
  12. Is this game almost too deep? I have to let the CPU handle half of the operations it seems (banking, injuries, marketing, facilities) and I'm still blown away with all there is to do. I gotta admit, I giggled like a little girl when I got to the year end contracts screen and it told me Escobar's deal was up, but was not arby eligible. I could, however, offer him a contract. I ended up locking him up on a long term deal that took him through his arby years. Then there's the 40 man, the rule 5 draft, the amateur draft in the middle of the season....I've never seen depth like this on a console.
  13. I love the game. I love the animations and the graphics. Batters tend to have their pre-at bat rituals down very closely. Not just their stance but their swings seem to be accurate as well. Very, very cool. The only thing I wish it included involves the minors. What would have made this game perfect would have been an A, AA and AAA team. Not just the teams, but also the rosters. I understand you can't include their names, but had they done something like Ben Lawson (Brett Lawrie), Luke Cano (Lorenzo Cain), and Jim Johnson (Jeremy Jeffress) for all three rosters this game would have been perfect from a Franchise mode standpoint. I have a question for those who have tried RTTS in '09. Is it as frustrating as it is in '08? I love the concept and maybe if I had the patience I'd enjoy it more, but it seemed that if you wanted to get your ratings up, advance to the majors and actually stick around you couldn't sim much of anything. It meant playing hundreds of games and I just don't have that kind of patience. Also, the level of points you had to devote to attributes so they simply wouldn't decrease was quite a bit. Another frustration I had came from actual performance. I could get called up, bat .450 for a month and hit 9 bombs but get sent down in favor of someone who sucks. It was based on ratings and not performance. Has that been tweaked?
  14. Two months ago Rosenthal said that there was no way the Brewers resign CC. He even handicapped it: http://msn.foxsports.com/...-CC-sweepstakes-can-begin That rubbed me the wrong way. It could be he just doesn't want to admit he might have been wrong about the whole situation.
  15. I read a blurb somewhere earlier today. A list was done of the worst defensive players over the last three years. McLouth was one of the three outfielders.
  16. I think you only have to ask one question: is booing going to help a player out? Is it going to make him concentrate more on that throw to first, or hit his spot on the mound, or make better contact at the plate, or run faster or harder into second? Any athlete (or anyone with half a brain) will tell you the answer is no. Athletes put a ridiculous amount of pressure on themselves to succeed. They feel pressure from their coaches and owners and GM and even their teammates. Why, as a fan, would you see fit to add to that? Booing doesn't help a player. So why, if you want to see them succeed, would you do it?
  17. I'm exited to see what Gamel could do, but the thought of him making an error in a critical situation scares the hell out of me. I'd be more inclined to trot Escobar out there.
  18. Both threads being equally ridiculous.
  19. Also, on a side note, it wasn't uncommon for me to bounce or sky the first few balls when just playing catch in practice or before games, throwing along the chalk in the outfield. I was a left fielder as well and when I warmed up I usually couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with my first couple tosses. It's weird.
  20. Pitchers spend every day throwing from a certain position, arm motion being the same, feet starting and landing in the same spot. It isn't rocket science; they get used to doing that to the point that throwing a baseball any other way is awkward and requires thought. Where pitchers screw up is when they don't step with their throw. This is the part I don't understand. Since pitching as a freshman in HS my dad would yell, every time I got a comebacker or fielded a bunt, "Step and throw!!". It honestly helped. It's a reminder to use proper form when making the throw. Something as simple as stepping with the toss makes all the difference in the world. If you watched Tavares when he tried to make that play tonight he did the same thing every pitcher in the world does when he screws up a throw to first. He tossed it flat footed. If he takes a step that ball makes it to Fielder. Maybe it's something taken for granted at the pro level, but if I was sitting along the first base line I'd be screaming "Step and throw!" simply out of habit.
  21. I don't see why Prince would be upset with this. I'm sure that there have been attempts to get him to sign a long term deal. If he wants to wait it out, then that's his prerogative.
  22. What drives me crazy is people who try to deflect criticism from one player by placing it on someone else. We're talking about Weeks, the NCAA batting champ and the guy that people thought would be among the best hitters in the game. I love that he's patient at the plate and willing to take a walk. But as of yet, he's been a poor hitter and the injury excuse can only last so long.
  23. That's also in seven at bats. Kapler's at 26.
  24. Like others have said, he'll get a standing O. I'd be extremely surprised if there's any booing going on.
