  1. The Brewers (19-18) start their second and last series of the season against the Expos (13-25) this evening and try to remain unbeaten this season against their opponents from the great north. The series is being played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, PR. Game time is 6:05 CST. Doug Davis (3-2, 3.99) goes for Milwaukee and has the unenviable task of pitching the game after Ben Sheets' 18 strikeout masterpiece. It's like being the fourth batter after back-to-back-to-back home runs. Davis has been the second best pitcher in the Milwaukee rotation after Sheets, and should be back in the top 10 in NL innings pitched with a good start against the punchless Expos today. Davis hooks up with Expos starter Zach Day (2-4, 3.35), who is quitely turning into one of the better young pitchers in the game. 2. For anyone who may be in the know... *cough*brewcru1*cough* I'm wondering what the status is of the players on the DSL and VSL rosters. Because the Brewers aren't fielding teams there, they really can't have a roster there. Have they all been assigned to Arizona yet? Thanks for any info. Edit: Just a thought... is it wise to have a pitcher for the Mavs named Homer-o? That's just asking for trouble.
  3. He slammed the door... the door was just on a very big hinge.
  4. The one thing I'll take away from this game is Helms' "errant" throw 10 feet over a leaping Overbay into the 5th row. That was one of the worst throws I've ever seen. And forget anything good I ever said about Durrington.
  5. Yost has apparently forgotten that his bench consists of anything other than Trent Durrington.
  6. Being that he's in the rotation, yes. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Now who is the pitcher going to be? Kieschnick was warming up, but I'd rather see him tomorrow assuming there's no Capuano. I say let Ford out there one more time... why not? Edit: Bennett. Good enough.
  8. Best words I've read in a game tracker lately: "Hall walked." Followed by "Hall stole second base." Followed by "Hall picked off second base." Followed by "Ginter infield single." Grr.
  9. Couldn't they have found older Braves unis? The Brewers look more like the Braves than the Braves.
  10. It's a good thing that they pinch-hit Spivey so they can't DL him retroactively. Oh well. This is the first Brewers game of the year that I'm going to be able to watch, so I'm amped. Go... Santos! Er, yah.
  11. I thought I had read that it was the team's goal to convert Bausher to a starter this season. But, maybe not. I'd rather he just stayed in the pen. And I was right about Adams. Yay.
  12. IIRC, Yost said there was "no way" Kinney would be starting in the near future. I don't think they'll rush Capuano back, so it looks like it is going to be a bullpen game, which Kinney could be involved in at some point. And I think Reichert is the pretty clear choice over Adams. You sign guys like Reichert for these types of situations, hoping they'll pan out a little in AAA first. Reichert has done that, and Wise did, too. Adams, on the other hand, is a prospect and still needs to be handled as such, especially since they are trying him out as a starter. If they stick with him in the rotation, it won't be until July at the earliest until he's ready to be promoted. The only other option besides Reichert is Jason Childers, who has more than proven himself in AAA over the past year and a few months. He doesn't throw real hard, but he might be decent in middle or long relief.
  13. Methinks Ned may have just about had enough with Ben Ford. Wouldn't be surprised to see Ford down and Reichert up by the end of the weekend.
  14. On a whole other note... Ty Taubenheim's Brewefan stature has grown, literally. He had been listed at 6'5, 220. However, we were made aware of his actual size, which is 6'7, 240. Big kid that one.
  15. In their neverending quest to finish a series with a record over .500, the Brewers take on the dead-ball era Expos in a three game set at Miller Park. The first game is today at 7:05, and the Brewers will need a walkup crowd of around 9,000 to break 10,000 in actual attendence for this one, so get out of their and boo those guys from north of the border, and tell 'em what for about their crappy stadium (San Juan or Montreal). In the words of Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, tell 'em the Brewers will send them "to bejesus and back." It's nice to feel pretty confident going into a game, and especially a series, that your team has a good chance to win the game or the series. It's been awhile since the Brewers have faced an opponent that was obviously worse than the Brewers were. The Expos' pitching staff is very respectable, but their horrendous offense is one of the worst MLB has seen in years, and has nullified their pitching successes. The Expos are dead last in virtually every important statistical catagory in baseball, including team runs, OBP, SLG, OPS, and are next-to-last in team home runs and walks. The Brewers, who are ninth in baseball in runs scored, have more than twice as many runs scored (164) as the Expos (76). To put that in a per-game average, the Brewers are scoring 5.3 RPG, and the Expos are scoring a pathetic 2.4 RPG. Wow. And what about that pitching? As good as they've been (4th in baseball in ERA, 3rd in runs allowed), there is no way that the pitching could compensate for the offense's anemic output. The Expos's pitching staff has given up a 747 OPS, which is 13th best in baseball and my speak to some over-achievement in the runs-allowed department. By contrast, the Expos' offense is at an OPS of 603. You don't win games when your pitching staff is allowing an OPS 140+ points higher than your offense is achieving. But again, it's not the pitching staff's fault. Junior Spivey is scheduled to make a return to second base in this evening's game, so we should see Keith Ginter again sometime in August. 16. The Brewers will once again attempt to go for a sweep, this time in a Sunday afternoon affair with the NY Mets at 12:10 CT. Victor Santos toes the rubber for the Brewers in his second start of the year. He faces off against grizzled veteran Steve Trachsel, who is having a very good year outside of one start. The old Lyle Overbay was 1 for 3 lifetime agaisnt Trachsel, meaning the new Overbay will hit two home runs today against the Mets pitcher. I guarantee it. 17. Here are your lineups. Ginter still isn't benched? Whoa! Brewers Mets 1. Scott Podsednik, CF 1. Kazuo Matsui, SS 2. Craig Counsell, SS 2. Danny Garcia, 2B 3. Keith Ginter, 2B 3. Mike Piazza, 1B 4. Geoff Jenkins, LF 4. Karim Garcia, RF 5. Lyle Overbay, 1B 5. Eric Valent, LF 6. Wes Helms, 3B 6. Mike Cameron, CF 7. Ben Grieve, RF 7. Ty Wigginton, 3B 8. Gary Bennett, C 8. Vance Wilson, C 9. Adrian Hernandez, SP 9. Tyler Yates, SP
  18. My own thunder needs to strike. Yates would be the Brewers' third starter.
  19. The Brewers look to secure a series win this afternoon as they lock horns with the New York Mets in the second game of a three game weekend series. Adrian Hernandez (0-2, 10.03) gets his first start of the season and looks to make a statement similar to that of Victor Santos'. The Brewers face Tyler Yates (1-3, 5.40), the Mets' worst starting pitcher. 20. It is sweet to see Manny's name back in the pitching lineup. It may only be for a few innings, but we all need our Manny fix. And on the radio I said he'd be in the bigs next season, so he needs to get his pitch on. Today is a good day, indeed. BTW, new Power 50 will be out late this evening.
  21. "We'll try to track down some more info on this bottom half of the Brewers lineup. Jim, what does your laptop say?" "Sorry Bob, but all I know is Durrington is Australian and one handsome gentleman." "So back in 1964..."
  22. Relying on Jeff Bennett in a tight game is getting a little old. Help, AAA, help. And what horrible managing by Yost in the ninth. He was probably trying to fake out the Reds by having Moeller bunt and then go to a hit and run, but Moeller should be doing neither. Just let him hit. This game really, really irked me.
