  1. Ben's two-seamer is his better fastball, definitely. He has to be able to hit his spots with the four-seamer to be effective, however. Even though he was only throwing in the mid-80's last night, he is capable of staying around 90, not that it makes that much of a difference. I think what DHonks might have seen as another breaking ball was just a hard change-up. Ben throws at a lot of different speeds, and sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a flat curve and a hard-breaking change. He is capable of effectively pitching between 70-90 MPH, which is a good thing. As noted, he also usually hits the black of the strike zone, and with his sink, he'll get lots of ground balls. He doesn't strike a whole lot of guys out because he's usually confident enough in the curve that he'll use it earlier in the count and show another pitch (like the sinker) to induce a weak swing. And does anyone else think that if he had a little longer hair, he'd sorta look like Jeff Weaver (sans coke binge look)?
  2. The post count of this thread may dwarf Ben's pitch count by game's end. Well, I'll help.
  3. Maybe they should have recalled Sanez instead... Bzzt. Try again. Both these pitchers could be gone after three innings. Yay for pseudo-bullpen games.
  4. Keep the ball down, Ben. Is it to much to ask to have your first ML strikeout be against LoDuca?
  5. I wonder if George Webb is developing a complex from failing on predictions for the better part of a month? Five runs my...
  6. So can they bring Bennett back in for the ninth? I think he's good for it. Edit: Is anyone else reminded of a bad guy from some anime when they hear the Dodgers' PA guy?
  7. Bennett for a second inning? Hmm. You'd think that if a team had 13 pitchers they could find someone to bridge the gap between the 7th and 9th innings.
  8. Does Bob not realize that he keeps saying Davis is going on four days of rest and how back in the day, pitchers always only got four days of rest? Err...
  9. Looks like Doug Davis (3-4, 3.41) is the starter for the Brewers this evening, replacing Ben Sheets, who has been ill with a viral infection. Davis takes the hill on three days rest. The Brewers will once again look to get the offense untracked, this time against Dodgers' starter Jeff Weaver (3-6, 4.38) . Game time is 9:10 p.m. CST. 10. Huntsville has sort of turned into last year's High Desert as far as players playing out of position and some stinky lineup combos. Raburn playing first? C'mon. Barnwell batting above #7? C'mon. MB is right, this team really needs some bats. There is no reason for them to be under-maned. And like I told Patrick at FanFest, I kind of like that Heether kid. He hits for some pretty decent power, and walks enough to keep his OBP pretty decent when his average slips. Could be a sleeper in the next few years, and right now he's our best third base prospect.
  11. Remember when the Padres traded Ed Sprague to the BoSox for Tankersley a few years ago? He had a great season for Padres, moving up two or three levels in the minors, and he had people saying that Towers stole this great prospect from Boston. Well, a few years later, I'd rather have Tankersley than Sprague, but... meh. One year should not a prospect make.
  12. The Brewers purchased the contract today of infielder Troy Farnsworth The Brewers purchased the contract of Atlantic City Surf pitcher Jeff Farnsworth I can just see Melvin in his office, tapping his fingers together saying: "Farnsworth. More Farnsworths. I must have Farnsworths!" This puts Indy back over the limit, and by my count, Huntsville is still a few under the limit. I think Gemoll's days in Indy may be numbered, and Morris could be primed for a promotion from High Desert, with Rottino possibly slipping up to HD from Beloit to take his spot.
  13. Wow, this offense is looking pitiful. I know they aren't as bad as this, but they don't look they are ready to bust out of it any time soon, either.
  14. If the problem persists, you can always just go to www.ezboard.com and get here through there. Not to take anything away from the ESPN board...
  15. If Kolb keeps pitching like he has been, he might have a shot at getting into the All-Star Game. You have to think that Sheets and Overbay are locks at this point it time, so it would be nice, if unlikely, to get a third guy there.
  16. 'Atta boy, Kiesch. Wouldn't it be great if the Crew actually scored some runs so all these games weren't coming down to this?
  17. Isn't it great that thorugh 4 IP, Ben has allowed only 2 hits, no walks, and has 3 K's, and most of us probably aren't thinking anything of it. I just hope that he keeps pitching like this for the rest of the year.
  18. I'm not talking so much about today, but more for the fact that we have six straight games after this, and around 16 bullpen innings in three games is a lot going into a six game stretch.
  19. Sheets hasn't been exactly frugal with pitches himself. He's on pace to get in just about 6 innings. After the past few days, they need more than 6 from him.
